St. Louis zoo. 10/19/2006

I went with my brother and some friends the last time I went and it's a great zoo whether for kids or adults and it's free to boot. I like it because one free, two big cats, and it's in forest park area. So if you want have a picnic there it can be cheap date but also a nice date or family outting. My husband and I are both originally from St Louis, but we move around alot, but always go back home to St Louis. more

The St. Louis Zoo 8/17/2006

Located in Forest Park in the heart of St. Louis is a wonderful zoo, and the best part is the FREE admission. The Saint Louis Zoo has educated, entertained and earned a place in the hearts of St. Louisans for generations. With the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1904, there began a long and slow process to establish a zoological park. The St. Louis Zoological Society was formed in 1910. The City of St. Louis set aside 77 acres in Forest Park for a zoo and named a Zoological Board of Control in 1913. State legislation provided that "the zoo shall be forever free," which has kept the Zoo accessible to millions of visitors ever since. This is a large zoo, with beautiful fountains, sculptures and many animals. Make sure you wear your walking shoes! There are a few parts of the zoo that charge a minimal fee (the children's zoo, the train etc.), but you can have a great day here and never spend a penny. Food is available at various eateries within the zoo. http://www.stlzoo.org/ more

Free. Did I mention FREE 8/4/2006

If you have nothing to do and the zoo is open, go for a walk! This zoo is big, and very well kept. Reward yourself with some homemade potato chips and enjoy the scenery. The animals have quite a bit of space, and it is right in Forest Park. more

Nice zoo 4/16/2006

I hate seeing animals in captivity, but I do enjoy a trip to this zoo. The habitats are creatively designed and I absolutely love the penguin house. In the winter, a lot of animals are taken out of their exhibits, but admission to the zoo is free, so you always get bang for your buck, no matter how empty the zoo is. Parking along the perimeter of the zoo is also free or you can park in the parking lot for a few dollars. This is a nice place to take the kids on an early spring or late fall day when it’s not too crowded. more

Fun and free 4/14/2006

The Saint Louis Zoo is a great free way to spend the day. Entry is free, although some premium attractions like the Children's Zoo require a fee. However, the Children's Zoo is free from 9am to 10 am every day! Lots of things to do and see, and there are lots of tables for that family picnic. Parking is expensive, but if you don't mind walking, there is free parking nearby in other parts of Forest Park. more

Saint Louis Zoo 4/12/2006

This is a huge zoo. I never realized that the city of St. Louis had a quality zoo until I visited my cousin. The turtles here were my favorite. The place where the monkeys are housed seemed to be a favorite of most people at the zoo. This is a very well kept park. The people who run this zoo really know what they are doing. more

its free! 4/5/2006

i love going to the zoo. monkeys are my favorite animals. i loved taking my grandson there, he had a blast. he just kept pointing at all the animals, and wanted to pet them. it was hard getting him off the train. we went on a nice day, not to hot, so it was pleasant. we also loved the dolphin show, my grandson just laughed and laughed. they also have a great children's zoo. our favorite thing to snack on there is the dippin dots! wish i had some now lol! more

No reason not to visit 4/3/2006

A wonderful place to go on a spring day. Lots of fun for kids and adults, and its free. The new areas are wonderful with a lot of room for the animals and an environment that seems more natural and closer to their natural environment. Wide variety of animals including some that you’ve probably never heard of before. more

I miss the best zoo in the world 4/2/2006

We lived in St. Louis (pre-kids) and were about 5 minutes from the zoo. I really liked hitting the zoo and just perusing everything it had to offer. Now I live in Seattle and have two bumpkins who generally go stir-crazy unless they can get outside. We hit up our local zoo all the time, but it ain't the same as the St. Louis Zoo. Many, many living creatures to check out; a seriously fun carousel; lots of things to do and ride on, way too much bad stuff to eat. It's everything you want for a day of fun. Best part -- it's free. Not so in Seattle, where you have to pony up $$$ to go and/or join. Easily a worthwhile destination while in Saint-Lo-Mo. more

St. Louis Zoo 4/1/2006

This is one of the only free zoos left in the country. Chicago's own Lincoln Park Zoo is another of course. I had an enjoyable time visiting this large zoo. They give the animals a good amount of space and try to re-create their natural surroundings the best they can. They folks who work here were friendly. I didn't get the chance to check out a 3-D film that they were showing in their theater, maybe on my next visit. You can't see everything at a zoo this size in one visit. more

And it's FREE! 11/16/2005

My family loves to visit the st. louis zoo in the spring or fall. It's (amazingly) free, which makes it a great place to stop by for a bit while you're in the park for the day. Don't bother paying the money for parking. If you're willing to walk a few blocks you can park for free somewhere else in the park. They just finished a beautiful new huge bird exhibit which is great to see. Because it's free, you can spend your money on a ride on the train. Great place to visit, but does get very crowded on nice days in the spring and summer. more

Voted the best, and we know why 10/20/2005

Our zoo is fabulous - the best attraction in the city and, best of all, it is free!! Park in Forest Park back by the Living World building and have a picnic lunch in any of the tables around the area. more

Saint Louis Zoo 9/26/2005

I have been to several different zoo's and the Saint Louis Zoo is by far the best one I have visited. They have so much to see make sure you plan on going for the entire day. They have so many different animals and exhibits the kids love going here. Make sure and check out the penguins it is so neat you can actually see them from underwater swimming and it is nice and cool during the summer! This is an all time family favorite! more

Fun for all 9/24/2005

The zoo is one of the best attractions in all of St. Louis. It is free (yea!) and so is parking around the zoo. If you park in the "zoo lot" you have to pay. There are so many animals to see, and so many things to do. The zoo is constantly updating to add more animals and to make the exhibits fun, unique, and educations. There is also a nice children's zoo, and many shows to see. more

This is a great zoo 8/31/2005

The St. Louis zoo is a wonderful place to spend a day. It is fun for the whole family. They have so many animals it's impossible to see them all in one day. Admission is FREE! can't beat that. They have a chimp exhibit called the Fragile Forest that is like the real habitiat that they live in the wild, they also have a penguin exhibit where you go in to a place where it is cold temperature and there are tanks where the penguins dive into so you can see them swim. There is also the bird sanctuary where you can see birds from all over the world! They even have a Warthog! A fun place to go even if you don't have kids. Highly recommeded. more

The St. Louis Zoo is great! 8/30/2005

Our zoo in St. Louis is another great FREE attraction. It is so fun and makes for a great day. There are many animals to see outside including bears, elephants, big cats, giraffes and on and on. There are many inside attractions as well including a primate house, bird house and reptile house. The grounds are beautiful and have great foliage to view. Definitely go to the zoo if you get a chance! more

World class 8/20/2005

The St. Louis Zoo is truly one of the great zoos of the United States. The zoo has remade itself over the past couple of decades, reducing the nubmer of cages and making more habitats that are conducive to a nice life for the animals. Admission to this great zoo is free, which is a good thing if you plan to buy food, because it's very expensive. Still, the zoo is a good value for a family outing. more

A Beautiful Zoo 8/20/2005

The Saint Louis zoo is exceptional. Even though it costs to park your car before entering the grounds, it's still a great value to visit because the zoo itself is free. The grounds are well laid out and maintained. The walkways are wide and there's plenty of shade and bench seating for taking a break from the hot, Missouri heat. The animals are beautiful and obviously well cared for. Kids of all ages will adore the zoo and so will the adults. It's a great place to visit. more

Great Zoo! 8/19/2005

One of the best things about living in St Louis is that quite a few attractions are free to visit. The St Louis Zoo is well regarded and is a fantastic place for children and adults alike. All the recent changes made to the zoo and to Forest Park in general is paying off as the place looks fresh and clean. Definitely a place to visit whether you are new to St Louis or a resident for years. I personally watch people there as much as the animals. Not that I view people as I do animals but it is a great place to people watch. more

Yay for the zoo! 8/17/2005

What can I say that is bad about the St. Louis Zoo? The monkeys smell a bit funny. But I think that’s part of the monkey job description. It is very important to eat Dippin’ Dots (very frozen tiny balls of ice cream) if you go to the zoo. Admission is free, but parking is not, so keep this in mind. Also, there are large parts of the zoo that are almost never crowded, generally containing the less well-known animals. A slight bit of obscurity, though, does not stop these creatures from being fascinating and worth your time. A note: meals in the zoo can be expensive, so wait until later and go elsewhere if possible. more
