I went one time to the Roti in SF and had such a fantastic meal that I decided to try the one cuz it's closer to my home - and was not disappointed!!! My husband is Bengali and he loves the food there (better than his Mom's, but he'll never admit that!) Now we have a new place to go to take our out-of-town guests!! Goat naan, biryiani, etc. Chef is Nepalese. Really get distinctive and unique flavors in all dishes. Very high end Indian. This is what the middle & upper classes eat in India. The vegie samosas was really good. But then came the main courses. All of them where REALLY salty. The ""fish of the day"" was not fresh but fishy tasting. The sauces on the food - korma - was tasty. The breads were good but some were over cooked - burned. Service was ok to poor. The food was so salty we needed more water and the waitress never came to refill the glasses. The food is excellent, the prices are incredibly reasonable, the atmosphere is perfect, and to top it off, the staff is great. We ordered 2 appetisers and one entree, along with naan bread and basmati rice. There was definitely enough food for 2 people. For starter we had veg samosa, and chicken tenders in a spicy coating - delicious!! We then shared chicken tikka which was by far the best chicken tikka I have ever had. One waiter had asked us if this was our first time to their restaurant, and it was, so he offered us a complimentary dessert, another waitress give us a free glass of wine, the owner of the restaurant give us a complimentary port wine and also a complimentary beer!! Never in my life did I feel so well looked after at a restaurant. I will definitely be back here anytime I take a craving for some great Indian food. You can also order for pickup. I reccommend that you make a reservation in advance as they get very busy which in itself says how good their food is. After dinner you will probably need a walk and West Portal is a perfect place for a nice stroll. The overall experience that we had was incredible! Definitely GO!! Try it out.
