This place was not what i expected when i got there they had me wait forever the person that was supposed to do my hair was too buzy doing some one else's hair and did not even bother coming to me and saying sorry it is taking so long or anything, and then i ended up having some other clown that wasted my time and money i dont think any one that wants nice hair should go here Cons: hard to find, waste of money more

What an awesome way to start my Wedding Day! Rosey and her staff did such an amazing job on my bridal party make-up and hair.(All ""9"" of us!) Everthing ran like clock work..what a relief for me and my Bridezilla nerves! I loved that I had a trail hair and make-up run. Rosey had everything organized and ready to go! I originally tried Urban Roots because I was frustrated with another Downey salon's customer service. What a difference! Everyone here is so friendly and helpful, as well as professional. My stylist Mary Anne is the best! I like to change my hair often, and she always has great suggestions for cut and color...and I have never been disappointed. I Visited the salon for the first time last night. Needed some MAJOR help. Of course I am very pickey with my hair and was nervous about trying a new salon/stylist. When I arrived I was welcomed by Brian (the best receptionist I ever met) excellent customer service! My appt. was with Rosey, we talked for a bit, I explained she listened. Recently went to this salon as my hairdressor switched shops and I can say it was a great decision. This place is run like a tight ship. Friendly greeters who offer your beverages and snacks as soon as you walk in...good music playing...timely service....urban decor and a great vibe all offered at a great price. Even their appointment system is top notch! This is my new salon! Pros: Definate thumbs way up! Cons: it's behind The Jenny Craig building which much like its patrons block the view of the salon! more

You have to visit my stylist Roseanna @ Urban Roots, I followed her from her previous salon and this one is 100 times better. Best service and best place to get your hair done. I never worry about my hair because I know its in GREAT hands. My family and friends all attend and no Regrets to tell. I'd been trying to find a non-chain salon for quite awhile now, without any real luck in my area. But lo and behold, I found this hidden gem 10 minutes down the freeway. When I found it on citysearch, the pictures of the salon and all the reviews told me I just had to try it. When I first got to the salon, I wasn't sure what color I wanted to do my hair, but my stylist Chemo helped me choose just the right shade and did the cutest peek-a-boo highlights. Great Environment!!! Great Staff!!!! Great Owner!!!! From the minute you walk in you are greeted and feel very welcomed. Dena is my styilist and she does a great job everytime. I have very long hair and don't like change and she respects that. My hair feels soft and silky and smells great. The salon is down to earth which makes it comfortable. She always offers me a drink and a magazine to relax. more

I found the hair salon I have been looking for!! I do my hair with Rosey. She's the best!!! She's very professional and friendly. She's got the best recommendations!!! I go for cut and highlights most of the time. I've been very happy with the results. She actually LISTENS to you and what you want to do. And she also, very professionally, suggests ways to make things better. But at the end, it is you who decide. :) I like this. incredible service and so friendly. the salon is comfortable...the shampoo seats even recline! i drove from north hollywood because of all of the great reviews. after a few bumbs on my first visit the owner invited me back and guaranteed i would leave happy. i went back a second time to an incredibly capable stylist (rosey) and even booked an appointment for color before i left. as long as im a california resident, urban roots will be the only salon for me. i am incredibly picky and have seen many stylists...and i cannot say enough good about urban roots more

i found urs through citysearch. i have tried tons of salons but this is the first salon that has made me feel comfortable and welcome. i wasnt just another client to them- they really took care of me. chemo was my stylist- i was a little apprehensive at first, but he welcomed me... offered me something to drink and told me exactly what i needed to hear. he is a signature stylist and a color expert. he gave me a new great look! not only that- he gave me advise and actually taught me how to style my new hair. i looked and felt like a million bucks. the product i bought hasnt let me down either. chemo and the rest of the staff were totally amazing. i love that place! ps. the place is hard to find but just look for the jenny craig, its on the backside. For the first time going to Urban Roots, I can say I was very impress. I walked in and was greeted by Roseanne who was very polite and welcoming to me. They say, ""First impressions is always a good thing"" I always had long dark hair w/carmel highlights and I wanted a dramatic change like going into a shade of blondes. Salons I've been to in the past either couldn't do it or didn't do it right and I paid too much $$ for unsatisfied hair. So when talking to Roseanne she showed me some cute styling ideas. Well I was very nervous about my new do but she made me feel very comfortable we had good conversation. Which I like cause in some salons they just do your hair and have small talk. But not Roseanne shes cool! She explained what she was doing to my hair and what products she was putting in it and Why. she wasn't rushing me. At the end of my makeover, it came out MARVELOUS!! I have short hair and she got the perfect shade of blonde and style for me. I love it so much, so does my husband. Even he was impress. I got so many good responses about my hair. I think I've found my new spot. So I think Urban Roots is the best i've been too, rate it a 10. Why? It's clean, hip and welcoming they have good skills and service. Their product smells so good and it's very refreshing. Does not leave your hair smelling like chemicals. Top it off their very reasonable in prices. I could tell that the employees at Urban Roots care to see their clients satisfied and that's what I like about them. I'm EXTREMELY particular about my hair...who does it, specifically what techniques they employ, and what products they use. And I LOVE ROSEY!\r Here's why:\r 1. She's GREAT with COLOR.\r When I first came to her, I needed a serious color correction. The last person I went to was running very late and offered a free color while I waited. Although I usually NEVER let ANYBODY touch my color, I allowed it because it was Christmas Eve, and I didn't have time to do it myself. My hair is usually a reddish mahogany (60% red + 40% brown, levels 4-6 depending on my mood) and I told him that that's the color I wanted. When I left his salon, my hair was light brown AND black...and worst of all, BLOTCHY! I returned to him so he could fix it, but it only got worse. I came upon all of Rosey's great reviews on CitySearch, and made an appointment. SHE TOTALLY SURPASSED MY EXPECTATIONS! Not only did she even out my color, and remove all the black and brown, she returned my hair to its original color WITH EASE. It also impressed me that she was so experienced with the color RED...considering it's been extremely difficult to find a colorist who is. Lastly, she uses Schwarzkopf color...which really is superior to the average/less expensive color many salons use, even at high-end salons.\r 2. My cut was PERFECT. \r She gave me just enough layers without thinning my hair, and left it long. \r 3. She LISTENS and then DELIVERS!\r Everything I told her I wanted, I got; everything I told her I didn't want, I didn't get. AND she seems to truly appreciate hearing the specifics of what you want, and your feedback on what you get.\r 4. She spends TIME with you.\r I never felt like she was rushing to finish me because she had somebody coming in in 15 minutes.\r 5. URS is COMFORTABLE! \r I generally HATE salons because they're usually pretentious, loud, and even tiring. But URS is very different. Its laid-back, yet completely professional, relatively quiet, and the staff is friendly.\r I LOOOVE THIS SALON!!! Pros: Serious SKILL! more

I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about having a girl cut my hair. However, the girls at Urban Roots Salon actually know what they are doing. I referred my friend to Rosie, but she was busy that day, so Maryanne did his hair and she also did a great job. I guess those girls know what's up.
