BRATS, KNOCKS, and other WURSTS 9/7/2010

i was introduced to three twins ice cream the last time I was in SF and had to go back for some. we hadn't eaten lunch yet and noticed Rosamunde. I walked by and had to have a sausage. its hard to find a good bratwurst in LA. I was not disappointed.\r \r she took my order wrote my name down and said 10 minutes. I guess they grill them fresh which is great! 10 long minutes later (not a problem, we stood outside and watched the sidewalk BBQ party across the street sing a romping rendition of Queens ""We are the Champions"") i had two steaming brats in a soft (yet toasty) roll topped with onions, sauerkraut, and brown mustard. I'm drooling just thinking about it.\r \r Would I go back and stand in line in a cramped hole in the wall with maybe seats for 8 people. HELL YES. Best Brat ever! juicy, with a snap. *sigh* i want another one right now.\r \r Oh yeah, we went to three twins after and the ice cream paled in comparison to the awesome-ness of rosamunds. should've had another sausage instead of the ice cream. more

Oral Fixation Satisfied! 5/4/2009

I have an oral fixation and boy was it satisfied by Rosamunde! I went to try the beer sausage with kraut and onions because it was on the 7x7 top 100 eats list and I am so glad I did. The lady behind the counter is super nice and considering the chaos she totally has everything under control. The spicy peppers are perfectly pickled and the fact that you can bring your sausage over to Toronado to wash it down with a beer is a big big plus. Big smile at the end of the night! Pros: great selection of sausages, freshly made Cons: crazy busy more

Best Sausages in San Francisco 3/5/2009

Freshly grilled sausages with a unique range of ingredients. Absolutely delicious. Great for a snack, or to have when you're beering over at Toronado. Pros: sausages, variety, proximity Cons: too popular! more

Hog Heaven! 12/17/2008

A great find in the Haight for sausage lovers. Pros: Great neighborhood vibe, everything was cooked fresh Cons: Waiting for your sausage more

Tasty, Cheap, great selection, next to an awesome pub. What else can you ask for? 4/11/2008

I have just recently discovered this place and I am In Love. I couldn't stop thinking about it after going the first time and was hoping my obsession would be cured after the second visit, less than a week later. No dice. I am sitting here dreaming of another Wild Boar with sweet/hot peppers and onions all the same. Both times I went, the service was more friendly than you would expect. I enjoy the vibe here. The best part is you can take your food next door and have some beer with your dog. Pros: Variety, Taste, Cheap, Right next to great beer Cons: Parking, Not much of a seating area, highly addicting more

Great food,bad service 8/7/2007

I'm not going to knock the product that Rosamunde offers. Whoever's behind this operation knows his or her sausage. Its pretty good. But the service is so bad that it almost makes the experience not worth it. \r \r Most of the staff is pretty cool. They'll serve your order up with a smile, give you a dollop of sass, joke around. That's part of the aesthetic, I guess. One of the cooks, a big, meaty guy with a brown pony tail, is probably the biggest loser in San Francisco. He acts like he's a rockstar, usually overcooks the sausages, and has even lashed out physically at a customer at least 20 years his senior. He swears in front of kids and is rude and impatient. One guy brought his dog into the restaurant and the guy lost his temper so badly that he chucked a pair of brats straight off of the grill at this guy. Totally outrageous. \r \r All the other servers are cool, and very tip-worthy, but this guy is so dumpy and bad-mannered that he'll make you lose your appetite. With a job so simple (heating a pre-made link on a stove), he still inspires me to worry if his hands are clean when touching my lunch. Pros: great food, lots of cool servers Cons: intolerable regular employee more

Great sausages 7/15/2007

Only wished I'd try this place sooner, thinking of all the sausages I've missed out on tasting. The small place reminds me so much of the tiny Top Dogs surrounding UC Berkeley. They have a great selection and the brats come with 2 skinny sausages in a bun. The beer sausage and chicken-cherry smoked sausages are terrific. The buns are soft but I prefer the sourdough type. After placing your order and 5 mins on the grill, you can pick 2 of 4 toppings: grilled onions, kraut, pepper or chili with your sausage. There are about 8 stools for eat in and the sodas are a mere $1.50/bottle (Thomas Kemper, yea!), German potato salad, chips are other sides you can order. It's about $5 a sausage, but well worth the price. Great place to grab a couple of sausages for a picnic, if you can find parking. Pros: Delicious sausages with toppings! Cons: Parking, sm place with only stool counter seating more

Definitely a ""must stop"" if you're visiting San Francisco 7/3/2007

Every time I visit the city (couple of times/year), I make it a priority to stop by and get a beer sausage w/ chili and relish. Add a can drink & chips, and the cost is very inexpensive, but a very filling meal. Next time I'll try to make it on Tuesday, when they serve burgers (I'm told they are the best in town)! Just get there early on that day, for there is a line forming before the place opens :)\r \r The Tornado bar next door is a good compliment to the grill, where you can sit down and have your meal. Pros: Good food for the money Cons: Finding parking can be a challenge more

Satisfies your every need 11/20/2006

Rosamunde is the perfect answer after a few pints next door at Toronado. Happy Cooking: Stop by on your way home from work and pick up some uncooked sausages to spice up your dinner. more

Best Sausages IN the WORLD 11/8/2006

I been coming to this place for years. It is the best sausage place I have ever been to, including Germany. They have a wide selection of sausages to choose from and all are delicious. The best is on Tuesday they have the Cheeseburger special during lunchtime. Simply delicious. Recommend their Beer sausage, Hungarian sausage and Chicken Cherries. Pros: Great Sausages Cons: Parking is difficult more

Great Links and Cheap Eats, Good Variety 7/16/2005

These are NOT your dollar hot dog from a street vendor. Each variety (of which there are over 15 to choose from) is all-natural and without nitrates, and one link is big enough for a statisfying lunch. With every sausage you can pick two different condiments, which include seasoned grilled onions and a Philly-style chili (no beans). I tried the Chicken sausage, smoked with cherries: the grill prepared it perfectly, nicely crisp and firm on the inside. If you're in the mood for a dog and something different, give this place a try. Pros: Variety, Quick, Good Food Cons: Small, Limited Seating more

Basic American Soul Food! 6/21/2005

Through the door and to the looking glass - otherwise known as a meat case - to select your very own sausage from the 14 varieties, struggling to not say, ""I'll have one of each!"" In a few minutes, your sausage, now plump and flame-grill marked is served up in a sesame roll with your choice of any two of the four ""condiments"": grilled onions, peppers, spicy beef chili, or sauerkraut. This is simple, and good! To top it offi, this is old-fashioned service with a smile. There are a number of counter seats available making this popular lower Haight sausage house a great place to eat in or take out. Pros: Fast., Satisfying., Priced right! more

I have dreams about Rosamunde's sausages 6/2/2005

Try the duck and fig sausange with mango chutney - or the wild boar with cury sauce. This stuff really is the best more

Cheese Burgers on Tuesdays!! 12/26/2004

Go on Tuesdays for lunch and you will find the most amazing cheese burger, with a patty thats a good inch and a half high. They prepare it to a medium perfection and its dirty in a good way. Take a bite and you'll have a mixture of ketchup, mustard, and burger juices dripping down your hand. Be prepared for a wait, about twenty minutes, but they don't run out until about two thirty. Another great part about the burger is that it's $5 flat. Their price is like the way they run things, no nonsense. My favorite part of Rosamunde is the dented wall between the restaurant and the bar next door, where you can wait for your food. When your order is ready they'll bang on the wall to let you know it's ready. Lastly, there are about six stools so be prepared to take it to go. Pros: Delicious everything, They have a veggie op, Cheap Cons: , A little wait more

Rosamunde Rocks! 5/6/2004

I've been frequenting Rosamunde since it opened & it has been consistent all the way! While most places get those 1st few good reviews and then let their food go to chit, not Rosamunde. My faves: Beer Sausage or Wild Boar Sausage. Both are outstanding with onions, hot peppers & spicy mustard. Ack, I'm ready for one right now! Pros: inexpensive, quick, delicious Cons: , not much seating more

Outstanding 11/19/2003

Pair up Rosamunde's sausages with Toronado's Belgian beers and you have something about as close to perfection as is possible. The merguez is my favourite, exactly like one you would get in a French country eatery. Pros: Tasty, Fast, Cheap Cons: Addictive more

Terrific Snausage Experience 8/22/2003

The fact that one can place a to-go order for the bar next door is truly what makes Rosamunde such a fantastic Haight haunt, and a perfect companion to neighborhood bar, Toronado. I am not an eater-of-swine, yet had a great selection of snausage, from roasted duck to spicy lamb and beef to lamb with sundried tomatoes. They are very generous with their servings of toppings as well, which include grilled onions, peppers, and chili. Watch for grease, but it comes with the snausage territory. Pros: TASTY, Abundance of toppings, Friendly staff Cons: Forget about parking more

Sausage relieves stress. 7/21/2003

My friend and I have made it a ritual of ours to go to Rosamunde atleast once a week an then head next door to wash it down with a beer. It is a great way to enjoy a monday afternoon or anyother day of the week. And they have my favorite-- Colbas (Hungarian Spicy Sausage), it has a special place in my heart because I am half Hungarian. Pros: Cheap, Good beer next door Cons: no seating inside more
