Don't Bother 2/22/2008

Not recommended. Staff swept the floor continually in the dining area during lunch; stirring up God knows what. No hand washing between handling money & serving food. Many items on the 'special board' were unavailable. Had to retrieve our own menus because the waitress was busy talking to her boyfriend about the evening's plans. Also some of the food was lukewarm. Pros: Good parking. Cons: All that's left inside. more

The service is absolutely horrible. I've had so many bad experiences that I refuse to go back. The last time I was there, it took a while for our waitress to take our order, which was mainly chocolate chip pancakes. After waiting 20 mins for our food, she came back to finally tell us that they were out of chocolate chips!! No food had even started to be cooked at that point. We should have just left then, but we decided on something else. Then it took another 1/2 hour to get our food. Ridiculous. The waitress also served us coffee, and then we had no utensils to stir the creamer or sugar into our coffee with. Duh!!! Bye, bye, Ricks....I'll never go back. Pros: service more

Fantastic Catering at Rick's 2/6/2006

My husband's company uses Rick's for catering and is very pleased with the food and service. Recently, we hosted a corporate event at our home, and used Rick's for catering. I enjoy cooking and entertaining and don't use a caterer normally for such events - but after the great experience I had with Rick's on this event - I will be calling on them again and again! The food was excellent and the staff was extremely competent, professional, and courteous and required little to nothing from me during the event. I was free to socialize and enjoy our party without worrying about the food or cleanup. more

Rick's is well known in the Durham community to have bad food, high prices, extremely bad service and is UNCLEAN. Please save yourself the money and disappointment and try anywhere else. If not, one or two visits will tell you the real story. Pros: None Cons: bad food, bad service, overpriced, extremely unclean more

Durham's worst dining experience 2/19/2005

Do not waste your money here. I've been to Rick's about 5 times, and somehow the bad memories fade and I return hoping things will get better, but it never does. The food is consistently bad and the service borders on rude. The portion sizes are tiny and the ingredients are cheap and skimpy. Even the vegetable soup is like watered-down ketchup! Today I ordered the French toast - the plate was virtually empty except for two slices of cheap soggy bread cut into tiny halves - the worst French toast and the sorriest excuse for a breakfast I have EVER seen. When my companion politely mentioned a mistake in his order, the server rolled her eyes, sighed loudly and stomped away. We have often gone an entire meal without a coffee refill. Having been to most every restaurant in Durham, I can say confidently that this is the worst. Pros: Lively atmosphere Cons: Very poor food, Very poor service, Crowded seating more

...Can Rick's stay open? The food is terrible, the service is worse. It seems everytime they have a good waitress they don't stay very long. I had a piece of meatloaf that looked and tasted like a cardboard box, the potatoes were cold and flavorless. more

After numerous visits with the same problems, I am going to take a break from eating here. Go to Rick's at your own risk, and be prepared to wait for everything but being seated. more

Grand opening, sorry I went... 6/24/2003

I went to the grand opening of Rick's 6/23/03 and received poor service from the waitress and Rick. We waited for an hour for our food, which was room temp by the time we received it. We were told we only waited 20 min. We asked to see Rick and he too told us we only waited 20 min. We ordered at 6:15 and our food came at 7:20. You can do the math. Then Rick congratulated us on being his first complaint. I found that to be extremely rude. He wasn't aplogetic in the slightest bit. Poor service and a rude owner equals no repeat visits to any location by my family! Pros: Good value Cons: Poor Service, Rude owner, Room temp food more

Cant wait for Ricks new location 6/11/2003

We love Ricks Diner - their crabcakes are wonderful! And my husband loves their homemade coconut pie. We live in the Woodcroft are and cant wait for the new location to open in the former Momo's that was the former McDonalds (right at the edge of the Woodcroft shopping center). We heard the grand opening will be around 6/16/03. more
