Lake Oswego's Gem!!! We love Riccardos! 2/3/2007

We have lived in the area since 1992 and consider Riccardo's to be an excellent restaurant - fabulous wine list, delicious appetizer, great salads with organic greens..........and many really delicious entress to choose from - their lamb, their filet mignon, their array of delicious pasta dishes, veal dishes...I have never order anything that I didn't end up loving. Pros: Everything is So Good! Cons: Make sure you have reservations!!!! more

Complete disappointment 1/20/2007

We ate at Ricardo?s this evening, and I promptly came home and created a ?city search account??.what a complete disappointment. Our waitress was friendly enough, however she did forget about us. We sat over uneaten meals for twenty minutes and had to eventually flag down another server to get us our bill. I ordered yellow fin tuna that was over-cooked and drowned in lemon making it virtually inedible. The accompanying cauliflower was very cold and smothered in such heavy herbs that it was also inedible. My dinner partner had the pork shank which was ?ok?, however a far cry from tasty. The most satisfying menu item (aside from the wine) was the spinach which was seasoned well, and warm to the table. As I read the other reviews I?m amazed at some of the high ratings?. between the apps, the main course, the service, and the overall ambience, we are 100% stumped. We could not under any circumstance be pressed to recommend Ricardo?s. more

Superb Dining experience! 7/7/2006

The past 2 special occasions we had the pleasurable experience of dining at Riccardo's. After spending 2 years living in Italy, Riccardo's reminds me of that time. The chef has managed to capture rustic Piedmont and Tuscany with style and elegance. Recommend reservations, but well worth it! All entrees are delictable!! Wine list is also great, they have the most expanded Italian list in the greater Portland area. Mille Gratzie Riccardo! Pros: Cuisine very authentic, outdoor dining patio, wine list Cons: small parking lot, make reservations more

Even Better Than Our High Expectations 5/6/2006

Having arrived at an engagement to find it canceled, my partner and I decided to head to Riccardo's, as we've been meaning to try what we've heard is wonderful food... our expectations were surpassed. First, the ambience was perfect. Not a trace of pretension, very relaxed and quiet, but not funereal. We lingered over our meal for two hours, and were never hurried. Now, the meal. This was beyond excellent, and there's not enough space to go into the Filet Mignon, Ravioli, the sides and our desert (La Diva, Peanut Butter Pie). Having been told about the steak beforehand, I will agree. It was the best I've ever had. Our night was sublime. Pros: Food, Relaxed, Ambience more

A bit of a letdown 1/19/2006

I was expecting a great experience, but I was disappointed by the way I was treated. The food was good, but my night out was tainted due to rudeness. Pros: Food is good Cons: Insulting staff more

This Place is great 12/18/2005

I've been coming to Riccardo's for at least 10 years and have always enjoyed the service and most especially the food. Their Lasagne is always the best thing to order if you cant find anything else that wets your appetite but the menu is so extensive that its hard to find something that you wont like. The courtyard is beautiful when it is open but the inside could use a little sprucing up. I come from out of town to dine at Riccardo's and I think its one of the best places in the Portland area. Pros: Great outdoor seating, excellent service, traditional Italian more

Snotty waitress ruined the experience 7/23/2005

I took my fiancee to Riccardo's recently. From the moment we arrived at Riccardo's, we were treated like outcasts. A snobby, ill-tempered waitress took our drink order, then nearly half an hour later asked us for our food order. The food was pretty good (I had the eggplant parmesan; something I can make better at home) and we had a fine visit, but the waitress' manners were so bad I actually laughed out loud at one point - I was so astonished! Again, the food was pretty good - nothing spectacular. The prices were very, very high considering the size of the dishes served. It reminded me of those frou-frou restaurants in Los Angeles where they charge $18 for a crostini. Dessert, however, was quite tasty. The ""La Diva"" torte was delicious. Some day when I learn to appreciate pompous and arrogant servers, I'll return and revel in the moment. Pros: La Diva dessert Cons: Rude server, Arrogant server, Snotty server more

thank you 5/21/2005

the wine list is the best i have ever seen cover one country. i would like to stand up and and clap every time i eat at this wonderful, wonderful restaraunt. to me this place is the best italian on the west coast and should be rewarded. again thank you!! Pros: service, wine list, portions more

Better than ever! 1/16/2005

Riccardo's has improved since my last visit a few months ago. The service is exceptional, knowledgeable and friendly. They do not look down upon those using discounts. Entrees (meat) are reasonably priced, which are accompanied with fresh assort breads, salad or soup, vegetables and pasta-far more than one could eat, left overs are a must if you wish for dessert or a starter. Wine list is exceptional, offering wines from all regions of Italy at every price range. The veal, fish (ahi) and pork dishes were wonderful. The chef is highly skilled and doesn't miss a single detail. We will return and recommend to cuisine and wine enthusiasts!!! Pros: Cuisine!!!, Wine list, Service, patio more

Who Are You...we don't care... 8/26/2004

We have been frequent patrons for over 10 years and it surprises me that the owners never recognize us or our friends by name. We go to many other restaurants and within two visits not only does the management know our names, but the staff. They know what we like to drink, what we frequently order and our names. The lack of warmth and even caring that we frequent their restaurant has really deterred us over the years. Our visits have become fewer due to the overall 'who are you, we don't care' attitude. Pros: good servers, good food Cons: , cold feelings more

european dining 7/16/2003

riccardo's provides quality, authentic food - the ingredients are fresh, and always well prepared. my family and i have been going for 5 years and have never been dissapointed. of note, is the fact that it is a european dining experience - which means, take your time, ask for recommendations and ALWAYS make reservations. that will ensure a pleasent evening. Pros: good food, fairly priced, nice patio Cons: parking, often crowded more

Cookie cutter Lake Oswego 5/20/2003

Considering the area and clientele, I suppose it's okay. Had the Lasagna topped with a cream sauce that was very light and good. The heralded Bruchetta is much overrated. Nice wine selection. However, if you're not from the area they'll definitely make you feel it. Pros: wines Cons: attitude more

Not Impressed 4/8/2003

I found the food to be very overpriced for the quality. There are plenty of other places to go in the Portland area for better food at a cheaper price. The food was not awful- just nothing special at all. more

You wait for a reason 8/14/2002

Yes, Riccardo's is always busy and sometimes there is a wait. It's been that way for years. Isn't that a good sign? Sitting on the beautifully lanscaped patio and drinking great wine makes up for any delay. The food is always consistent and rich in flavor. Reservations are honored, especially for those who show respect. Of course, if you want something faster, there's a McDonalds across the street. But if you want authentic Italian food, try Riccardo's. Pros: great food, amazing wines, beautiful setting Cons: sometimes busy, limited parking more

Reservations Don't Count 8/10/2002

Somehow, waiting 45 minutes beyond the reservations makes the whole idea of calling ahead absurd. But, aside from the late seating, it was galling to be told, when we inquired as to the status of our table, that it was being set up right then. Twice. For 30 minutes. We were a party of eight, not 50! Food was good, but overpriced. We went for the outdoor dining, and apparently paid dearly for it. The best part of the evening was our waiter, who really was a delight. Had the 20% gratuity not been included, though, I'd not have left that much, just due to having to wait SO long. It will not be my choice to go back. Pros: great outdoors, some parking, good wine list Cons: crowded, Late seating, overpriced more

Mangia 6/28/2002

Riccardo's does, and always has had the best, most awesome lasagna ever! I've not been to Italy, but I'm willing to bet it's authentic. Great newly remodeled atmosphere. more

Pseudo Italian 6/11/2002

For some reason, it appears Portland can't get it right when it comes to inexpensive to reasonably-priced Italian food (except for Justa Pasta; Assaggio, which is somewhat inexpensive compared to most of the Itaian eateries; and Genoa--well worth the price). Food was pretty good, but I will not pay their dinner prices; if you want to go there, go there for lunch. Ambience is horrible. I don't like sitting elbow-to-elbow with other patrons nor did I like the tables, which seemed unsteady. Our waiter was good, but left us for a while. Riccardo's tries to hard, playing off Portlanders' flash for the cash attitude---will trendy die out? Pros: Lunch Prices, Service, Dessert Cons: Dinner Prices, Service, Ambience more
