the title says it all... the brisket sandwich is a steal (the bread doesnt sandwich the meat so much as serve as a platform for it), and the cornbread is awesome. don't worry yo...

Worst

If you can get past the ambience of a garage sale. You have some of the best BBQ in the area. Go for the Take-Out and dont forget the Red Beans and Rice, worth the trip alone.

Brisket's great, sauce not so much 6/18/2006

The brisket here is great, just the right amount of fat and meat with a nice smoke ring. I'd recommend getting the sauce on the side so it doesn't drown out the smokey flavor. The sauce isn't that great, but the meat more than makes up for it. The ribs here weren't that special, but still infinitely better than Big Daddy's. They can overcook the ribs sometimes but the brisket is consistently excellent. I'd come out here on lazy sunny days and sit outside with a mint julep but they don't have booze. The atmosphere is the one I'd want for a no-nonsense approach to barbecue. Pros: brisket Cons: no booze more

Better Than Busters 2/9/2006

The atmosphere is not fancy at all, neither is the service. My favorite thing is the Beef Brisket, but they have ribs and chicken also. They have tons of delicious sides to go with the BBQ meat (cornbread being my favorite). My husband and I usually share a meal since it's large and expensive (but good quality so that's OK). Top 2 in Portland Area! 12/26/2005

What's up with people comparing Portland restaurants to places from KC or TX? What are you trying to prove? That you've had better BBQ? That you're so great cuz you know what good BBQ is? Shut your hole! I'll bet you wouldn't know an okra from a dingleberrry! Reo's is top 2 in Portland area. Sure, you can get better in other states, but in this area, this is about the best you'll get without doing it yourself. Worth a visit if you've got the BBQ craving. Sides are good too.... Awesome BBQ In Yer Own Backyard 12/6/2005

We went to Reo's just before they closed one night - the food was excellent even thought they were actually waiting on us to leave to shut down. Excellent BBQ, close to home. I love BBQ but am not down with BBQ sauce, so I ordered the baby back ribs no sauce and it was excellent. We also sampled several side dishes, from hush puppies to green beans - all very tasty! Photos of hip hop and rap celebrities filled the walls, which was very cool. Go check it out! Plus they're in the Entertainment Book, so there ya go. more

I Hate Saying Bad Things, But.... 9/8/2005

I am from Oklahoma, and one night I had a BBQ craving. My boyfriend doesn't eat pork, so we were forced to find a place that not only had good BBQ, but good brisket and/or chicken. I will say that the brisket was phenomenal. And although the sauce lacked any sort of kick (it was very sweet), I still wanted to shove all the brisket in my mouth at once, it was so damn good. That is, if the brisket wasn't $2 a slice! Four slices of brisket, a la carte, came to $8! Other things we got: Cornbread- Dry and crumbly; not even good slathered with butter and honey. Mac n' Cheese- Could not even taste the cheese, I am so serious, it tasted like dry noodles with bread crumbs on it. Chicken- it was all right, but had little tiny bones in it everywhere, wuddup wit dat? Pros: Great brisket Cons: TOO EXPENSIVE!!, Not worth it!, Don't do it! more

Disappointing - Calvin Broadus can have it 9/2/2005

First thing...barbeque sauce is a condiment, if you have to drown your meat, you must be hiding something. No self respecting BBQ joint should ever sauce their ribs like Reo's does...you don't want McDonalds putting the ketchup on your fries. The side dishes were extraordinarily ordinary; the beans still had the taste of the cans they were made from. I have had BBQ all over the south and Portland for that matter and Reo's was by far the biggest disappointment I have ever had. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! Rice and bones 8/6/2005

I ordered a large container of the greens and red beans and rice. What I got in terms of the red beans was a container that was 2/3 rice and 1/3 beans. When mixed together there were not enough beans to even wet the rice. I am from the South, as supposedly Reo is, and this is not how red beans and rice is served. The container of greens, which were excellent, was about 1/3 bones by volume. So, I ended up paying for a large quantity of rice and bones. For that reason, I would not give them any return business (rip off). I also tried the brisket once and it was the chewiest piece of meat I have eaten in a long time. Having lived in Dallas for a while, it was a really poor piece of meat. Cons: slow service more

Inconsistent 6/17/2004

I've eaten the pork ribs at Reo's 4 times. Twice they were tender and tasty. Twice they were dried out and disappointing. I am surprised by the bad review for their cornbread. I've always found it moist and good. They serve their coleslaw with a very sweet sauce on the side to keep it crisp. I grew up in Kansas City and have been searching for good barbeque in the NW for 15 years. Sadly, I'm still searching. Pros: only BBQ on west side more

I had drove by Reo's many times until one day I went there with me girlfriend. This place is a Dive, from the unmatching plastic lawn furniture to the buckets of juice and lemonade. But the food is awsome. Its real BBQ and its fresh off the grill. If your looking for some take-out check this place out. Pros: Food, Price more

I am not from the south, nor do I claim to be a Texas beef BBQ expert. What I do know is that Reo's is excellent in every way. The sauce is great, the portions are great, the sides are great, the tea is great, the sandos are great, the catfish goes great with some okra and hot sauce, and there is no way to describe the unbelievably great cornbread. Best on the Westside 5/15/2004

Can't find a better plate of ribs or brisket on the westside. While the sauce is a little mild for my palate, I like the smokiness and tenderness of the meat. Most moms make better cornbread, but the greens and beans & rice are awesome. Great for take-out or lunchtime. Pros: Location more

OK BBQ for OR 4/4/2004

Drving up and down TV highway and smelling the smoker at Reo's finally drew me in to give them a try... First, I would recommend Reo's for take out only. And at that I would recommend calling ahead with your order. I agree with others here on the ambience, wait and service not really their strong point. The BBQ was good but not great. I had a full rack of ribs which were quite good, a good amount of smoke although I would prefer a bit more spice in the sauce. The pork was cooked till it fell off the bone and we did have some over cooked ribs, but they appeared to be the bones at the tip of the rack. The sides I ordered however were not worth it. The corn bread was very dry and the hushpuppies were so chewy and tough to be inedible. Pros: entrees Cons: , parking, price more

This place is kind of a desperation stop, even for Hillsboro. They have a large outdoor smoker that pollutes the air for miles around, and the so-called ribs are fat, fat, fat, the potato salad is blender mixed, and the service and ambiance are nil. BBQ is reheated and not fresh. 2/4/2004

I ordered the brisket here and this was truly the worst bbq experience ever. To start with the food was horrible. It was not freshly cooked, rather, it was reheated in a microwave (despite fact that the smoker was going at the time). The sauce was kind of slimy and the brisket was horribly overcooked and dry almost like jerky (probably from being microwaved). The place does smell incredible, but the taste really disappoints. The worst bbq ever....the riblets at Applebee's, while being far from great, are better than this. Pros: smells good Cons: , food is reheated, not freshly prepared more

Awful BBQ 11/29/2003

Had heard so many good things about this place, but the food was awful -- maybe just a bad night or something. Ribs were literally dried to a crisp, hardly any meat at all on them. Brisket was equally dry and tough, plus sliced completely wrong. BBQ sauce was nothing to write home about. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Dry, tough BBQ more

Yeah, it's a garage sale atmosphere, and you may wait a bit for the food...but if you're a meat-eater, this is The Place. A little pricey, but it's the best barbeque you'll find west of Texas. Buster's and Tony Roma's make garbage compared to this. Split a rack of ribs with a pal and don't forget the cornbread. more

Tasty but not cheap 10/19/2003

The brisket is great and the side dishes are pretty good. It's not cheap, but about the same as a Red Robin burger. So hey! Quit your bitch'n. Portions are good sized but if you're one of those ""big folks"" consider doing the ""all you can eat"" specials. Cheers.
