Extensive, authentic menu. No atmosphere to speak of, but that's not uncommon. Fair pricing, friendly waitstaff....definitely worth the trip. more

A Chinese place is good when CHINESE people eat there! DUH! 1/12/2011

Seriously one of the best Chinese joints around Providence. I'm just a grad student who can't cook, and when I'm in the mood for some Chinese soul food, Red Ginger is the closest is comes RI. They recently expanded so there is almost never a wait...also they've got good mixed drinks. The atmosphere is very relaxing, low key and the place looks great. I say check it out! more

Horrible customer service 5/18/2007

Me and my boyfriend are avid chinese food lovers, as we go once a week. We went here on a reccomendation, and lets just say, we were the least bit impressed. The food was terrible, freeze-dried vegetables, overly fried food, and watery dinner plates. When we asked the waitress to change one of the plates, she made a big deal about it, and brought back something else which was equally unappetizing. We didnt touch anything we ordered. We told the waitress that we didnt like the food and would like to not pay for it, and she told us that it was our problem that we didnt like the food because they've been open for years and not one complaint, which is hard to believe. She told us we would haveta pay for it anyway because they would lose money. We then asked for the manager and she continued to be ignorant and uncaring of our situation, just like the waitress. I told her that we eat chinese food once a week and we dont go into restaurants take one bite of food and get up and leave. I told her that we both have been working in customer service for atleast 7 years, and as far as we know the customer is always right. She then told my boyfriend that the reason he didnt like his food is because ""he wasnt in the mood for garlic sauce"", which is what was reccomended to us, and what we ordered. We told her that we werent trying to start a fight or raise our vouces, we just didnt want to pay for the food because we didnt like it, and she started raising her voice saying "" its your fault that you dont like the food and you have to pay for it because im going to have to throw away all this food"". She then continued the ignorance and said "" this is my style of food, and if u wanted spaghetti and hot dogs, you should have went somewhere else"". I then started to get angry as i was not trying to discriminate against asian food/culture. I said "" this service is shockingly ignorant and I cant belive that u are discriminating against us"". She gave us a 12$ bill, we left 5$. Pros: cute place. Cons: shockingly rude customer service more

Best authentic Chinese food in Rhode Island 12/15/2006

If you're looking for a restaurant that serves delicious, authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go! The service is excellent. The owner and staff are friendly and nice. Red Ginger is open every day of the year except for Thanksgiving. The food here is inarguably one of the best Chinese foods here in Rhode Island! more

Best in Providence 7/2/2005

Coming from Hong Kong, a city of great eats, I'd been searching for a restaurant in Providence that lived up to my inflated expectations. At Red Ginger, the food is authentically Chinese, the staff are terrific (we're able to order in Cantonese, Mandarin and English - at the same time). The chinese broccoli is crisp and flavorful; the pork with salted fish is excellent. If you ask nicely, they'll even make you a ""yeen-yeung"" - a coffee/tea concoction that is a staple in Hong Kong's local restaurants. Tip: Order from the back of the menu because the dishes at the front are Americanized. Pros: great service, good value more
