Best

Rathbuns is by far my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Very diverse menu offers a lot of different tastes to choose from. I suggest the Georgia salt an pepper shrimp. AWESOME!

Worst

I brought my out of town boyfriend here for a date on Saturday night (12-06-08). This was our first time visiting Rathbuns and I will never go back. We made a reservation for 9:15...

Favorite Atlanta Restaurant 10/30/2006

Great ambiance, amazing food, fantastic service...no complaints about this fabulous dining experience. I loved it since the first time and I keep coming back for more. Perfect date place, the patio is very romantic. Recommend having a drink at the bar prior to dinner, it's a very enjoyable atmosphere. more

Average experience for price 10/24/2006

Overall, more of a place to see and be seen than a place to enjoy good food. For the price of the entrees, I would have expected a little more. I had a chicken dish that was nothing spectacular and the desserts were only fair. But the atmosphere was fun and the crowd was entertaining. Good for a night out on the town with friends. Pros: Ambience, service Cons: Average food for price more

Average 10/14/2006

Very average. The prices are way too high for the cuisine. And I thought it was tacky to name one part of the menu second mortgage. Give me a break. Plus I hate it when a ""fancy"" restaurant puts you on the patio and then you are treated like the smoking section. Will not go back. more

Top 5 in Atlanta 8/8/2006

This is the best meal I have had this year by far. We would repeat this is the best thing I've ever had after each new taste. My boyfriend and I were celebrating his birthday and ordered a bunch of appetizers including the eggplant fries(which tasted almost like funnel cake), the mussels, the grouper special, the salmon tostadas and the ahi tuna. All of them were out of this world! I would definitely recommend the eggplant fries, salmon tostadas and ahi tuna in an orange sauce if you're in the mood for something different but extrodinary. We also ordered the scallops with grits and asparagus in a hollandaise sauce. This dish was unbelievable as well. The scallops were grilled to perfection. To top it all off, they let my boyfriend pick tiramisu mousse as his birthday dessert. Our experience could not have been more enjoyable. Kevin Rathbun himself even came out of the kitchen to greet everyone in the restaurant. We will remember this night for many days to come and will definitely go back as soon as we can get more reservations! Pros: Excellent menu and wine list, good service, comfortable ambience Cons: NONE, except for making reservations way in advance more

one of the best in the city 8/6/2006

i absolutely love this place. the appetizers were very cute and delicious...the entrees were mouth watering...and the desert we had afterwards was very good. i found the service to be great too. i can't say anything bad about this place! definitely go here. more

Excellent overall, noisy, good people watching 8/2/2006

I have been to rathbun's twice in the last few weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. On each occasion, the host phoned my cell phone a few hours ahead of time to confirm my reservations and we were seated within 10 mins or so of our arrival. The pork chop was outstanding and my dining companions, knowledgable diners from NYC and Chicago, were very complimentary. I agree, it isn't just noisy, it is LOUD, which distracted from the meal. If you want romantic ambiance, this is not the place for you. I consider the prices to be reasonable for the service and food received. Pros: Food, service, value Cons: noise more

My new favorite restaurant! 7/13/2006

After hearing nothing but glowing reviews we finally got a chance to eat at Rathbun's. I was not dissappointed! We ate with another couple and the crab tart and georgia shrimp to start, both where to die for! For dinner I had the duck, excellent, and my husband had the bone in pork chop that was phenomenal. Our friends really enjoyed their dinners, as well. We all shared the ""kirk's picks desserts, all of which where AWESOME and it was plenty to share! Pros: food, food, food Cons: is a bit loud, but so what. more

Great food, great service 7/2/2006

I went here for the first time on a Saturday. Let me first start with two negatives. Like other people have said, it is far too noisy in here to hold a conversation with your dining partners in a normal voice. I'm not an architect so I dont even know if this can be addressed. Maybe to resolve this issue ask to be seated outside. Also, when the restaurant is full, it is far too warm..somebody turn on the airconditioning! It was noticeably cooler once many of the dining patrons had left. Now on to the good part...the food. Pros: Great food, good service, decent prices Cons: too loud, too warm more

Nothing but salt and noise 6/18/2006

Way too much salt in everything. When I brought it to the attention of the waitperson she said ""Chef is known for his heavy salt"". She was very pleasant and offered to change for another dish, but commented that everything on the menu has more salt than normal, so I declined returning the food. I could tell I wasn't the first to say everything was too salty. Pros: Nice waitperson, good valet service Cons: Too much salt on everything. Very noisy. more

Great food, but did I order a side of attitude? 6/1/2006

We have been to Rathbun's numerous times, and we think that the food was exceptional, and even though it is still very good, I would not use exceptional to describe our last few visits. We have decided though, that no matter how good the food is, we just don't need the attitude. From the call for a reservation, the reception when you arrive straight through until the bill comes we felt that we were treated like we were a nuisance rather than a PAYING CUSTOMER. Kevin Rathbun take note...word is that those hostesses are just not doing you any favors. We have gone from being loyal customers to not wanting to go back...ever. Pros: food, banana tart Cons: host staff more

Lived up to every expectation! 5/21/2006

My husband and I celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary at Rathbun's this past weekend, and we had such a wonderful time! We were seated right away and were immediately impressed with the restaurant's ambience and design (very open, beautiful, comfortable, lively without being too noisy). Our server was friendly, helpful, accommodating, and attentive, and other servers stopped by occasionally to ask how we were doing. The food was the best part of all; my husband's pan fried cheese appetizer was wonderful, as was my romaine and gruyere salad (the toasted oregano vinaigrette is really good!). Additionally, our entrees (his seared scallops with cheese grits and my tarragon roasted chicken) were perfect, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the two desserts he tried. In sum, our evening was very special, thanks in large part to Rathbun's. This will definitely be our new special occasion dining spot!! Pros: Outstanding food, Excellent service, Unique atmosphere more

Fabulous Experience 4/23/2006

My fiance and I dined at Rathbuns for my birthday. Everything was amazing...the food, the service, and the atmosphere. You have to try the eggplant steak fries! I had the crispy duck on green curry basil risotto. It was truly the best duck I've ever had. The desserts were amazing as well. To top it off, we got a call from Rathbuns the next day to ask us how everything was and that they appreciated our business. I would recommend this place to everyone. Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Best Restaurant in Town!! 2/23/2006

Best halibut I've ever eaten. The atmosphere and ambience is very nice. The bartenders are knowlegdeable and make great drinks. Great place for locals and people visiting Atl. You definitely want to make sure you have a reservation. You could be in a LONG wait without it. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: Wait time more

Great Atmosphere, Great Food 1/10/2006

Interesting mix of the industrial, brick, etc, and mondern style. Very great place for a romantic date, or night out with friends. Best to dress in something trendy, fun, and comfortable, and have plans for going out afterwards. Portions seemed the right size for a pleasant meal that won't keep you from a a night out. Enjoyed the tuna greatly! Pros: Food, Portion Sizes more

Tops on my list!! 11/17/2005

This was my first trip to Rathbuns, but certainly wont be my last. We were seated promptly for our 8:00 reservation, and actually had a table right by the kitchen. Kevin Rathbun himself brought us out a chefs selection appetizer as a pre-appology for sitting so close to the action. It was probably the best lamb chop Ive ever had, it was complementary, and we got a bonus view of the kitchen!! We sampled a few small plates from the carpaccio, to the smoked salmon tostadas, to the eggplant steak fries. All were out of this world! Entrees ranged from the lobster taco, to duck breast with Thai risotto, to one of the nightly fish specials. All again were off the charts!! Finally we wrapped up each with a dessert sampling. I LOVE this concept, and was blown away. I would HIGHLY recommend this new Atlanta icon to anyone! Pros: Excellent Food, Spanning Menu, Desserts!!! Yumm!! Cons: Waitor was so-so more

Always Great! 10/27/2005

I went recently with a group of friends. We were able to promptly get a table in the bar area. We ordered several small plates an an affordable bottle of wine. Our food came out swiftly, and everything was fantastic. The thai rare beef with kaffir lime is a thing of beauty. The staff is attentive, but not overbearing. Kog Bar is a nice place to escape for a glass of wine afterwards. Pros: food, parking more

Good food but staff needs etiquette training 10/1/2005

When you make a reservation three weeks in advance, you expect them to honor it. Rathbun's did not honor our's, and acted as if a patron having that expectation was unreasonable. When we were seated 30 minutes after our arrival, we were given the worst table in the dining room. When we balked at the hostess's table assignment, she again acted as if we were out of line. After we were seated at a more desirable table, we finally got to sample the cuisine. The food was very good, but to seasoned veterans of the Atlanta restaurant scene, it didn't make up for the poor service. Rathbun's is more about the scene than the food right now, and it shows. Our next $130 meal will be elsewhere. Pros: Singles scene, Trendy, Good food Cons: Poor service, Trendy, Loud more

Great Food, Event Atmosphere 9/2/2005

Everything I tasted at Rathbun's was well executed and some of it was truly memorable. The eggplant fries were out of this world, as were the scallops with country ham grits. Duck and steak dishes were also excellent. The small size desserts are great as well, because you can actually finish them at the end of a full meal, and they are cheap (four for $11). The atmosphere is also fun, although only if dining with a group of friends. Not a romantic type spot. As a visitor from louisville, I was directed to Rathbun's by a friend from Atlanta, and it was on par with our (louisville's) best, which, believe it or not, is saying something. more

A strong delivery on a strong menu 8/23/2005

The food was spectacular. The menu is very strong, and the wine list is great. If you decide to go, you better make reservations waaaay in advance or plan to wait at least an hour to dine. The service we received was not the best but the meal more than made up for that. They offer free valet, and also have a covered outdoor patio (not reccommended if the temp is above 90). And what does an experience like this cost you?- Let me just say, expect to get a second mortgage-LOL. Pros: Variety of Menu, Great Food, Free Valet Cons: Small Bar, Service more

WOW! 8/9/2005

My first time at Rathbun's. I have been to the location when it was the previous Virginia's restaurant. What a change! I truly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The service was great and the food extrodinary. For special occasions and business meetings Rathbun's seriously impresses. It was so hard to choose from the menu!!! Would go back anytime! Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: Loud in Dining area more
