Best

Rathbuns is by far my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Very diverse menu offers a lot of different tastes to choose from. I suggest the Georgia salt an pepper shrimp. AWESOME!

Worst

I brought my out of town boyfriend here for a date on Saturday night (12-06-08). This was our first time visiting Rathbuns and I will never go back. We made a reservation for 9:15...

Ahh.the beauty in dining at Rathbun's. 7/30/2005

There are so many good things to say about this restaurant it's hard to know where to start! The staff-friendly, knowledgable, appeasing and highly experienced. You see them laughing and smiling together and working as a team. They are friends! The food-consistently great each time.Savory dishes.small desserts to end with. What a great concept!Kudos to pastry..The Chef-A real person.Extremely Humble. Friendly, sociable and Funny! Not to mention talented. He knows what he is doing. I always felt Atlanta has about 7 more years till it will truly be a food city but Rathbun along with a few select chefs in the city have given Atlanta the jump start it needed. I will always make Rathbun's my spot for entertaining out of towners for a guaranteed great dining experience! Having dined a lot in NY and SF. I can appreciate Kevin Rathbun and his entire staff and good food. more

Great Bang for Your Buck 7/28/2005

Rathbun's is truly ""where it's at"" in Atlanta right now. Ranging from the Mediteranean Mussles on the ""Small Plates"" to the Filet on the ""Second Mortgage Plate"", all dishes, including sides such as the Creamed White Corn and Gouda, stand-out at this restaurant. Rarely do I have a meal in which I find nothing that could be improved. At Rathbun's, not only does the food standout, but the non-stuffy and eager to help out service does as well. Make sure to try the peanut butter and banana cream pie: I was skeptical at first but am quite the believer now. Pros: Great Value, Atmosphere, Small Plates Cons: Slightly Pricey more

Bad Service, Good Food 7/14/2005

Rathbuns will be a good restaurant in 2 or 3 years when the hype wears off. Right now, the staff is just too impressed with themselves. When I called for reservations a week early, I was told that the only thing available was 6pm or 9:30pm so I took the 6pm. When we arrived the place was EMPTY. Our party sat at the bar for some drinks, but within 10 minutes the hostess insisted that we go to our table. The placed stayed empty until about 8pm when we were leaving. Apparently this place is not as popular as they would like you to believe. Corn soup had a nice balance of sweet and heat. Bone marrow is an excellent choice, so is the sweet pea ravioli. Lobster burrito is pretty average tasting, not worth the 2nd mortgage. If Rathbuns is still around in 2 years I may come back. Pros: Bone marrow Cons: Service, Over Hyped more

Great Food and Service 7/11/2005

I went to Rathbuns on a Friday night with a 9:45 reservation. Make your reservations early. We called to eat earlier and the paito is first come, first serve. We got there around 7:30 and were seated immediately. Although it was a little stuffy, once we were seated it was fine. The eggplant fries are delicious! I would never imagine to put powdered sugar on them. Tomato and mozzerla were okay. I ordered scallops and grits which were fab! My friend ordered kobe steak which was also delicious. It just melted in your mouth. The cheif's choice of desert were out of this world! Out waitress was very polite and knowledgable of food and wine. We had a great expereince and will totally come back again. Pros: wait staff, great food more

Great for business dinners 7/3/2005

Had another great dinner at Rathbuns. The creativity continues to amaze me. This is definitely one of my favorite spots for business entertaining. They can get a bit pretentious, but the food and service are consistently great. I love that they always have new and interesting dishes. Kevin is also very personable and really works the crowd when he is in town. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service more

Overrated 6/17/2005

Wine list states $8.50 wine by the glass. Charged #13.50 a glass. Manager said it is noisy and bartender served something different by mistake. Manager and waiter said they would take care of it never did. Served us a cup of coffee and dessert a comp. Pros: Good Coffee Cons: Very Noisy, cramped seating, Overrated more

Exceptional Dining in Inman Park 6/16/2005

My husband and I visited Rathbun's for our 14th anniversary (our first visit), and we were extremely happy with this choice. Everything was spectacular -- ambience, selection, quality and originality of food, and service. I am so glad we tried a little of everything -- the garlic shrimp small plate, the soups 1-1-1 (a small sampling of all three soups), the scallops with grits benedict, the lobster taco, and the banana/peanut butter cream pie. The food truly melted in our mouths. This place is truly worth every penny, and we will definitely return. Pros: Parking, Food, Service Cons: Loud dining room more

Rathbun's Rip Off 6/8/2005

Rude, condesending, over-rated and the chef is just plain ""hubris"". Too bad Atlanta does not have any great restaurants; the restaurant scene here is more about being seen that substance! This restaurant and the experience is not ""star"" quality in the food world. PS: They do not honor reservations! more

Can I get something to eat with??? 5/5/2005

Waited 30 minutes(had reservation) to be seated. Hostess said they could not find us. We were sitting at the bar next to the hostess stand. When seated, we were not ask if we wanted anything else to drink? Menus were placed in front of us and in 2 minutes someone ask for our order. No ""our menu works like this"", ""is this your first time here?"", ""I recommend this"". Food was brought out quickly and the server left without bringing silverware. 10 minutes before someone brought us silverware. The whole thing felt rushed to clear the table. The food was decent but the atmosphere is not romantic. The service was terrible for what is reviewed as a top restaurant. Would go back to sit at the bar and sample the small plates and some wine. You want service go to Food Studio or Bacchanalia. Pros: Good parking Cons: crowded, loud, bad service more

My, my, my... 4/11/2005

Spent a late evening here and immensely enjoyed the experience. The wine, food and atmosphere in combination were impressive. I munched on small plates while my boyfriend feasted on an entree (he tends to help me with my food, as well). We both had a great meal, enjoyed our table next to Sir Elton John and appreciated Chef Rathbun coming out to check on our dinner and Highly recommended for a sophisticated date or to impress out-ot-town visitors. Loved it! Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: NA more

Perfect! 2/16/2005

What an amazing experience! The sleek post-modern decor is wonderfully urbane, and the food . . . well, it was nothing short of perfect. I highly recommend the otherworldly wonder that is the butternut squash tortelloni appetizer, and the Caesar salad was also amazing. Atlanta is a town for fine dining . . . and Rathbun's is the best of the bunch! Pros: Unbelievable food, Stunning decor more

The Best of Atlanta 1/12/2005

Rathbuns never disappoints. The food is stunning - try the hamachi small plate and the steak - both out of this world. Service is flawless, even on a crowded New Year's Eve with a few celebrating patrons spilling red wine on white tablecloths (they were whisked away without a trace of anything going awry - the tablecloth, not the patron =)). The execution of the food, service, decor all exceed any other in Atlanta. Steve and Kim at the bar are tops and always remember your favorite libation. If you get a chance, ask for Johnny as your server - he is the best server I have ever had - friendly, efficient and classy. Kevin, Melissa, Cliff and Kirk have a first class winner that we can expect to enjoy for years to come. Pros: Service, Food, Bartenders more

Wow! 12/21/2004

I don't claim to be a fine dining expert but last night my experience at Rathbun's was amazing. Everything my party had on the menu was wonderful. The salmon with orzo was fantastic, the eggplant steak fries great, and the salmon small plate was to die for. Service, food, everything was fantastic. I will definitely visit again. We were even seated ahead of our reservations. Pros: food, service, parking more

I hope you like salt! 12/13/2004

Great ambience. Good service except noone seemed to know who ordered what when the food came. The waitress set things down in the wrong place and merely left, causing a bit of confusion among our large party. The tiny appetizers were good (they call them ""small plates,"" not appetizers). I ordered steak with polenta. I can't really comment on what this tasted like as it was laden with so much salt that all I tasted was salt. Have you ever gotten a mouthful of seawater while swimming at the beach? Well that is what this tasted like. I wasn't paying so I didn't complain, but another victim at my table agreed. I would cautiously give Rathbun the benefit of the doubt and assume this ""salt assault"" was an accident, but beware if you order any steak. The creative and affordable desserts were liked by all, although they are very tiny. Pros: Ambience, Parking more

Wonderful desserts..Over the top service 9/7/2004

The desserts were OUT OF THIS WORLD! Try the sampler plate. And it's great that they have a sugar-free or low-cal choice. The dessert chef is awesome! Other than that, we were seated promptly and the service was exceptional (my only qualm: the waiter did not listen to us when we asked him to just give us the cigarettes we ordered from the bar. We told him that we had a lighter but he didn't listen to us and instead went to search for matches). As far as ambience goes, it's a little loud in the cavernous space - but the decor, the food, and service make up for it! Highly recommended! Pros: Food and desserts, Good service, Cool space/'hood Cons: , Noisy, Over-zealous waiter more

Incredible Experience 7/7/2004

The reception I received at Rathbun's was warm and inviting. I felt like an old friend even though it was my first visit. I made a reservation for 8:00 on a Thursday night and was actually seated upon arrival!!! This is a true novelty in Atlanta. The atmosphere and people were very sophisticated and sexy, yet I felt as if I were in a comfortable place...not at all uneasy. I do not have to mention how fabulous Chef Rathbun's food is...he is a legend in Atlanta and beyond! The service is exquisite, yet very friendly. The following day, I even received a follow-up phone call asking about my experience. What a first class operation!!! Go NOW before everyone finds out about this hidden gem! more
