I loved it!!! 5/21/2012

I remember eating at Rascals with my Father when I was 12 years old. It was a very cool place. I had my fill of crabs, and my Father would eat his steak. Well that was over twenty five years ago. Fast forward to October of 2011. My husband, two children, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about (Restaurant Impossible). We didn't plan on eating there that day because we were in the mood for Italian food. My Husband popped in to check out Rascals while we waited in the car. After he had entered he was greeted by the owner. My Husband said he was very nice, and gave him a grand tour. 20 minutes later, my Husband came back to tell me ""The place is super clean""!! We then proceeded to Paladoros Italian restaurant, only to find out they had closed down! We looked at each other, and said ""Rascals""! After being seated, our waitress greeted us like family. The food was very good. Before leaving, we told the owner (Steve) that we were not going to eat here because the ""show"" said the place was once again messed up, and closed. It is amazing how we believe everything on tv!!! I wanted to take my Girl Friend from work there, but I hear they decided to close. What a shame!! I sincerely hope Steve, and his helpers are doing well. We send our prayers out to all. more

Great Service......Great Food!!! 2/29/2012

My Family, and I were looking for a place to eat seafood. My Husband heard of a new place that just opened. It is called Beach Bum restaurant in New Castle, Delaware. We live in Christiana, so we decided to take a ride, and try them out. We arrived on a Friday night. They had five tables eating crabs. The smell of fresh steamed seafood filled the air!!! If you love crabs....you know what a turn on it is. My Husband remarked how clean, and new the place looked. We were greeted by a nice, friendly hostess. She welcomed us, and sat us immediately. My Husband ordered Jumbo crabs. My son ordered BBQ ribs. My daughter had jumbo fried shrimp. I had the crab cakes. All I can say....the food was great! Portions were huge. We had enough to eat the next day. I highly recommend Beach Bums! We hope after their grand opening (scheduled for April-May) they don't get too busy. Try them when you crave fresh seafood. I hope you have as good a time as we did!!! more

Not good 11/6/2011

Ok so my husband our fiend and I decided to go and check out this place. They said under new managment so we figured why not. We walked in and there was only one other diner we waited for about 5 minutes to be seated when we picked a table it was uneven and rocky. The waiter was an old guy who really did not need to be working. He took our orders and put them in . It took him forever to get our drinks and our apps out. The shrimp was yummy but when we needed more drinkd he ignored us. Then our main food came out after about thirty to fourty minutes. I got the bbq and let me tell you it was not good. I am from Tx and we know meat this meat was tough and looked to be boiled and it was placed upon a bun. They did not even get my sides done right. Then when we got the bill it was over one hundred bucks what!!!!! Ug this place is a rip off the only thing good was the shrimp thats it so if u do go there be advised you are gonna over spend save your money and make your dinner at home. more

Health Hazzard???????? 8/11/2011

I too saw this restaurant featured on ""Kitchen Impossible"" on Aug 10, 2011. I have never seen such filth...for the life of me i don't understand how or why the health depart let them stay open. Now, Robert Irvine got things cleaned up but if it still has the same owner and same employees, you can bet it will be back in the same shape it was...after all, they made it that way to begin with. I would never take the chance to eat there nor will my family. more

No time for negative people! 3/20/2011

While this is not a review on Rascals BBQ & Crab..I wanted to comment on Chellenise's review of the restaurant. I also posted it on Chellenise comments. There is always some idiot that will talk negative about everything. (Chellenise). Posts by Johnnie B & Fatcrabs, give it a four star rating. It appears that Chellenise has not tried Rascals BBQ & Crab Restaurant since the makeover. So what Chellenise says means nothing. Can you imagine what kind of life he or she lives. A miserable one! more

Fun place, great BBQ!!! 3/20/2011

Awesome BBQ. This is hands down the best BBQ food in the tri state area. This is R-E-A-L BBQ food not typical bland northeastern chain restaurant style BBQ that you get at Famous Daves or Chilies. We had a great time and the food is amazing. We travel to Texas several times a year and Bull Durham's is as good if not better than the best Texas has to offer. We drove almost 2 hours to eat here and will be doing it again. Amazing BBQ. more

First Time at Rascals........LOVED IT!!! 3/20/2011

My friend and I were going out for lunch today. We usually go to the Dog house once a week. After getting out of the car, we noticed that Rascals had a few cars in their lot. So we decided to check it out. When we entered Rascals we couldn't help but notice the wonderful smell. Something like my mothers kitchen (she was a great cook). It made us both look at each other, and say ""I want that for lunch!"". We were told that they officially open for lunch in two weeks. They are still making adjustments to the menu. It was counter service. They call it fast casual. You go to the front counter, order, then pay. They give you a soda cup to fill yourself. Then they call your number, or in our case, an employee brought both our orders over to our table. I ordered the smoked turkey with chipotle mayo. My co-worker ordered the roast beef with pepper jack cheese. I must say, we were both very happy with our selections. I was even told they oven roast all meats here. The owner was in the kitchen, but found time to walk around the dinning room. I had asked how the show was? He said he is grateful for the fresh, clean start, and asked if I would like a mini tour? We had a few minutes, so we did. He took us thru the kitchen, which I must say was spotless. We then walked out to the patio. Wow, is all I could say. The outdoor patio is a hidden gem! I can definitely see it getting packed on the weekends with people eating crabs, and barbecue. We thanked him for the tour, and wished them tons of good will. I am planning to return for dinner (they add dinner shift in two weeks) with my Father. He loves crabs, and I know he will go head over hills when he cracks them on Rascals patio. He lives 5 minutes away. All in all, we loved their sandwiches. The place is super clean, and the help is very nice. We will return. Give them a try. more

The WORST! 3/20/2011

OMG! have you seen this restaurant...it was featured on Kitchen Impossible...this year 2011...... said it is the Dirtiest Restaurant that he ( Robert Irvine) every saw. He had over 13 dead mice/rats in his kitchen. I cant believe they have not shut down...the local Health Dept. has fail the citizens of New Castle by allowing someone to operate in the condition of this establishment. This man ( Steve) the owner should locked up for serving people this garbage. I cant believe all the wonderful reviews...Yes he finally got his sh... together and had someone else come in and clean but guys come on do you think this restaurant will continue to stay clean.. I can answer that with one word NO! And as I look at the show this restaurant has close down again..Wow people I am going to open a restaurant and serve sh..... and I expect everyone to show up and write all these wonderful reviews about it as well. This has to be a joke right. Keep taken chances and you just might take your last one eating at this place they call a restaurant. more

BEST BBQ on the East Coast !!! 1/4/2011

We were parked at Rascal?s. I got out of the car and was immediately engulfed in the powerful smell of hickory smoke. I had a feeling this could be good? Rascal?s goes one step further in proving my BBQ theory. You can get high quality, tasty BBQ anywhere in the world, as long as the owners are on site. We grabbed a table and were asked what our drinks would be. Terri likes their sweet tea and while I usually take my iced tea unsweetened, I was feeling a wee bit homesick so I ordered the sweet tea as well. It was actually good. Sweet tea is very hit or miss outside the south (and inside the south for that matter) but this was really good. Not syrupy sweet like Texas sweet tea but just sweet enough to take the edge off. This was a very good sign. I checked out the menu and decided that the only way to truly get the whole Rascal?s experience was to loosen the belt and go for the Sampler plate. With that you got some pulled pork, beef brisket, cajun sausage and BBQ ribs plus 3 side orders. The sides consisted of hot and smokey beans, sweet and smokey beans, potato salad, coleslaw and deep fried corn on the cob (more evidence that these folks were southerners. Who else would deep fry corn?) I love good beans so I opted for both kinds of beans and the potato salad. Let?s party! The server, a fine figure of a young, blonde woman, came back shortly with plates lined up her arm. She put a huge platter in front of me, piled high with various smokey and delicious meats slathered in a thick red sauce. ?This is part of your dinner.? she smiled. ?PART??? I thought. Oh yeah, the sides hadn?t arrived yet. Damn, I better let the belt out two holes instead of one. The sides arrived on a separate plate, three small bowls of goodness. I started with the brisket. Aside from chicken, brisket is the easiest BBQed meat to dry out and turn to shoe leather. I popped a slice into my mouth and was surprised at how moist it was. Tender, juicy and just excellent. The sauce was a good mixture of sweet with a healthy dash of vinegar. Tangy and just sweet enough, without being face puckering, with a nice dash of heat. The pulled pork was transcendent. It was as perfectly cooked pork shoulder as I have had anywhere. Big chunks of piggy deliciousness without any fat or gristle. The word flawless comes to mind. The cajun sausage was nice and spicey with a good flavor but not all that remarkable and the ribs were quite tasty too. Delicious, tender and smokey, but nothing approaching The Rendezvous in Memphis, South Street in Nashville or my back yard on Labor Day. The hot beans had a very good flavor but had just a wee too much burn to them for my taste and the sweet beans just a skosh too sweet but when mixed together, they were absolutely perfect. Potato salad is potato salad. Good mayonnaise based salad but nothing out of the ordinary. Marc ordered the deep fried corn on the cob. I just couldn?t bring myself to do it. It was corn, skewered corndog-esque, on a stick and dropped into the Fry-O-Later. He raved about it and I believe him. I mean, what?s not better deep fried?? All in all, Rascal?s gets this southern gentleman?s seal of approval. It was exactly as promised. Delicious, well cooked, properly smoked BBQ. Nothing fancy, nothing gourmet about it. Just like BBQ is supposed to be. The owner? Steve Kledaras. Came to our table. Checked on us. Great guy!!I knew we were at the right place as soon as I stepped out of the car and inhaled? more

FRAUD!!!!!!!! 12/8/2009

JUST FYI....THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS GIVING GOOD REVIEWS TO THIS PLACE IS THE OWNER...STEVE KLEDARAS....HOW HARD IS IT TO SIGN UP UNDER DIFFERENT ALIASES AND GIVE YOURSELF GOOD REVIEWS....THE PLACE SUCKS AND WILL NEVER REOPEN AND IF IT DOES...NOBODY...AND I MEAN NOBODY...WILL EVER GO BACK IN THERE... Pros: Best service I've had out in years Cons: Not open all week more

Fantastic Waitress 12/7/2009

I have been going to Rascals for years....since the reopening...The food is outstanding, but the real reason I and my husband go there is because of Chrissy. She is the best server at any restaurant that we have been to...We go there every week and we will only go there when we know she's working. We think she is wonderful and we will continue going there as long as she is working there....Steve...make sure you keep her around.... Pros: Best service I've had out in years Cons: Not open all week more

Fantastic Barbeque, and Big Fresh Steamed Crabs! 5 Stars!!! 9/9/2009

My family, and I moved from Texas to New Jersey due to my job. We have eaten at many of New Jersey's fine restaurants, Some good, some so-so. We were sitting in a restaurant talking to another couple when the subject of Barbecue came up. My Wife was stating, since we moved to the East coast, we haven't eaten a decent southern meal. The couple recommended Rascals. They said they ate the beef brisket, and it was so tender, that they didn't need a knife!!! In Texas we know Beef brisket! Well we had to give it a go. Saturday evening we packed up and drove 1 1/2 hrs to eat at Rascals. I got to say....it was worth the trip!!! There was five of us, we LOVE it! The service was great, the place was very clean, and most of all the barbecue was amazing. I haven't had such good Q since I left Texas!!! My sons had fresh steamed Jumbo crabs. They were so big, they filled up, and took the rest home. I must say.....If you are ever in Delaware.....try Rascals, you will feel like licking the plate!!! Pros: Owner is there everyday. Super nice staff. Great food! Cons: I live over an hour away! more

Great Casual Family Crab House!!! 8/11/2009

My Family, and I have been dinning at Rascals since 1981. I remember this because the first time we ate there was my son's Birthday. He wanted crabs, so we treated him to his first time eating crabs! He was a very happy 10 year old that day! My friends, and co-workers also love Rascals. It is a wonderful family run business since 1965. Recently nine of us from work, the American Cancer Society, met there, and had a blast. We ate BBQ ribs, pulled pork, Steamed shrimp, and of course BIG heavy Louisiana steamed Crabs!!! I can honestly say the waitstaff are very efficient, and helpful. They have a very nice casual atmosphere at Rascals. I highly recommend Rascals for fresh seafood, and smoke BBQ. Pros: Smoked BBQ, Fresh Seafood, Crabs Year Round. Cons: Highly addictive!!! more
