Below Average Malaysian Cuisine 7/15/2006

Malaysians have very defined ideas on what their cuisine should taste like, and I'm afraid Rasa Sayang does not fit within that category. The menu sounds Malaysian and does offer something different from the standard Chinese fare, but fails to deliver otherwise. Would suggest you check out someplace else if you're hankering for SouthEastAsian cuisine. Pros: Prices are cheap Cons: Doesn't taste Malaysian more

Wow, great place in the burbs! 4/23/2006

I recently found Rasa Sayang on citysearch. In spite of the previous review, I chose to visit the restaurant and was glad that I did. I enjoy many different types of cuisine and this place did not disappoint me. Don't let the location or building fool you. It definitely doesn't have much for ambience or decor, but the food and wait staff/owner is very enjoyable! We tried the Roti Canai, the Popia, the Nasi Goreng, and the Hokkien Char Mee - all were extremely flavorful. I personally prefer a little spicier (as opposed to Minnesota spicy), but if you make the chef aware of this, they can accomodate you. Definitely check this one out. We'll be back. Pros: Flavorful food, Friendly owner, Inexpensive Cons: ambience, decor more

Beware the one good review! 11/15/2005

Perhaps for those who do not eat Thai or Indian food very often, this restaurant may offer some new tastes, but for the rest of us, this was very substandard fare. The pineapple fried rice did not come in a pineapple shell as advertised and was made with what looked and tasted like Minute Rice and frozen vegetables. The much promoted Roti Canai was disappointing: the roti was actually very good, flaky and hot, but the 'chicken curry' was a watery dreck with one piece of potato and tasted like it was made with grocery store curry powder: way too much tumeric. The Malaysian beef dish promised 'chef's special sauce,' but again tasted of bitter tumeric. The place was empty when we arrived; we should have taken it as a sign. Pros: tea was good Cons: non-homemade, processed foods, Minute Rice! more

Malaysian food 11/10/2003

Chan's Restaurant actually switched to serving Malaysian cuisine, but still has the same friendly owners. I usually get take-out, which is ready in just 10-15 minutes. The prices are very affordable for poor and hungry college students! more

My favorite restaurant 10/25/2003

This is honestly my favorite restaurant because of the variety of great-tasting food. Malaysian food seems to take the best of Thai and Indian cuisines with a Chinese influence thrown in. I especially recommend the Roti Canai appetizer or Kari Ayam. Both use a similar indian-style curry sauce that is very flavorful. The Kari Sayur is mixed vegetables in a rich green curry sauce. They have a great lunch deal which includes soup, a choice of 25 entrees and a small salad on the side $6. The lunches include some of their best dishes including the chicken with ginger and scallions, chicken with pineaple (good flavors - not like a sweet & sour) and shrimp with mango. Don't be dissuaded by the simple exterior and the location that is not in a traditionally cool area. This is a real find and worth the trip. Pros: Great flavors, Good value more
