Bad service 3/15/2011

Bad service and look closely at your bill! Recently, we went to eat at Randy's in Southington. We were 4 adults with 3 kids and a toddler. We had arrived at 2:00PM because we had plans for 4:00PM and figured that it would be plenty of time to eat. But right away, the service was poor. It took a long time for our order to be taken and then it took a long time for the food to arrive. Not to mention that the guy who helped seat us seemed annoyed that we wanted the one larger table instead of two small ones. We ordered 2 pizzas, an appetizer, a chix & stix meal, a pitcher of soda, and one apple juice. Our bill came to over $84.00!!!! By the time it was all said and done, it was already 3:48 and I had run out to the car to change a wet toddler. My husband hurriedly paid the bill so we could make it to our following plans on time since everything moved so slowly at the restaurant. Later on, however, we got to talking about the bill and could not wrap our minds around how what we ordered could total $84.00!! By then, Randy's was closed so we waited until the next day to call. When we did, whoever we spoke to agreed that if we ordered what we say we ordered, it would only cost about $60.00. But said that they had already tossed their receipts away from the night before so they couldn't verify what we were referencing. The receipt that we had was only a credit card type receipt with the total amount we paid and which register it was rung up on. It did not detail what we bought (I do fault us for not slowing down and taking a closer look at the bill at the restaurant though). I just can't believe that their registers are so ancient, they don't keep some history in them. But anyway, long story still long ... my husband got no where with the person he was speaking to. That person took no accountability for anything. It took my husband calling back with a friend of ours who joined us that night to get to the bottom of things. And then this is what we found out: The waitress that waited on us that night charged an 18% tip onto our bill because we were a table of 8 (I guess it's in the fine print on the menu- which is fine- but the service should still be outstanding). However, even the person we spoke to felt she was out of line for doing that since we were not a table of 8 adults or adults & kids with special food or drink orders where each one of us got a different thing. The waitress basically put down a stack of plates, a stack of cups, and a pitcher of soda. The Moms of the table did the pouring of drinks and passing out of food. So basically, we should have gotten a cut of that 18%. I'm telling you, the waitress was terrible. When she brought the chix & stix meal, she brought ketchup in a sticky looking mustard bottle, with her ungloved finger pressed onto the tip (for the cost of our meal, you'd think they could afford clean ketchup bottles)! And if you think she checked in on us throughout our meal, think again. I think she popped in maybe once. But why should she have made any effort at all? She had already decided that she was getting an 18% tip no matter what just because we were a ""table of 8."" You know, it's sad because it's a cute place to eat. The pizza isn't fantastic but it's not bad. For the service and the cost, NOT worth it. Will not go again. To think that my toddler, who eats off of my plate, would be considered a full sized person in order to gain an 18% tip! It's ridiculous! I do believe in tipping waitstaff very well ... but I still expect good service before doing so. more

Rany's used to be good!!! 3/15/2011

We had gone to Randy's in the past and had no problem. We went March 14, 2011 and order the same pizza we always do and thought they pulled the pizza out of the freezer of a low budget food store. It was a door mat!!! I could not beleave how bad this pizza was. We called ahead of time like we always do, and found out they are under new management. Could be, but we will never return. NOT GOOD. Waste of money. I'll go to The food store next time. more

avoid this place 2/25/2011

AWFUL SERVICE. never have i felt so unwanted at a restaurant. We had 8 children under 8 years old, 1 12 years old, and 3 adults. We asked for two adjacent tables and the staff said no, including the manager, to the two tables. Less than fifty percent of the tables were filled while there. The service kept on rushing us out of the restaurant. We will not return. P.S. this is not equal to New Haven Wooster Street Pizza. I can not recommend them. I have never had such poor service in my life. more

Decent pizza 11/18/2006

Randy's is located near our house so we sometimes stop in on the spur of the moment. It offers decent thin crusted pizza that is reliable if not slightly better than average, but it does not compare to the wood fired pizza offered by the New Haven pizza restuarants. We usually order the weekday personal pizza, soda and salad special which now at around $7.50 is no longer the bargain it once was. Pros: Reliable pizza Cons: nothing out of the ordinary more

Great Pizza 5/12/2004

Anyone not from the area might not know that New Haven, CT should be the pizza capital of the world. Bar none! Sally's, Pepe's, Modern. Randy's will never be them but it is absolutely GREAT pizza. Born and raised in New Haven I was spoiled. Now live on CT/Mass border and Randy's has made life much easier. Always struggled for good pizza without an hour drive. Now Randy's is in Manchester and Enfield. GO, you can't go wrong. Only negative is it is pricey. But, worth it!!!!!!!! Pros: Tin crust, New Haven Style more

Good place!~ 8/8/2003

Randy's pizza is very good, but not quite as good as the pizza places in New Haven (BAR, Pepes, Modern). However, it's a definite cut above the other pizza places in the area. Where Randy's excels is the decor...HOTWHEELS! This is a real trip down memory lane for anyone. The staff is very good too, and it's a great ""kids-friendly"" place. We go there a lot, and enjoy it very much. more

New Haven Pizza in Southington 10/31/2002

New Haven has the best pizza - we can debate for hours - Pepe's - Sally's - Modern ... well - this style Pizza is now in Central CT - Randy does a great job with the traditional pizza's -but also has some really ""funky"" combo's which are just as good - and if you go during the summer - check out the cars in the parking lot - they have ""cruisin nights"" when all the great cars from our past come out to ""cruise"" Good Food - Good Times - and Good Fun more
