Bad service and look closely at your bill! Recently, we went to eat at Randy's in Southington. We were 4 adults with 3 kids and a toddler. We had arrived at 2:00PM because we had plans for 4:00PM and figured that it would be plenty of time to eat. But right away, the service was poor. It took a long time for our order to be taken and then it took a long time for the food to arrive. Not to mention that the guy who helped seat us seemed annoyed that we wanted the one larger table instead of two small ones. We ordered 2 pizzas, an appetizer, a chix & stix meal, a pitcher of soda, and one apple juice. Our bill came to over $84.00!!!! By the time it was all said and done, it was already 3:48 and I had run out to the car to change a wet toddler. My husband hurriedly paid the bill so we could make it to our following plans on time since everything moved so slowly at the restaurant. Later on, however, we got to talking about the bill and could not wrap our minds around how what we ordered could total $84.00!! By then, Randy's was closed so we waited until the next day to call. When we did, whoever we spoke to agreed that if we ordered what we say we ordered, it would only cost about $60.00. But said that they had already tossed their receipts away from the night before so they couldn't verify what we were referencing. The receipt that we had was only a credit card type receipt with the total amount we paid and which register it was rung up on. It did not detail what we bought (I do fault us for not slowing down and taking a closer look at the bill at the restaurant though). I just can't believe that their registers are so ancient, they don't keep some history in them. But anyway, long story still long ... my husband got no where with the person he was speaking to. That person took no accountability for anything. It took my husband calling back with a friend of ours who joined us that night to get to the bottom of things. And then this is what we found out: The waitress that waited on us that night charged an 18% tip onto our bill because we were a table of 8 (I guess it's in the fine print on the menu- which is fine- but the service should still be outstanding). However, even the person we spoke to felt she was out of line for doing that since we were not a table of 8 adults or adults & kids with special food or drink orders where each one of us got a different thing. The waitress basically put down a stack of plates, a stack of cups, and a pitcher of soda. The Moms of the table did the pouring of drinks and passing out of food. So basically, we should have gotten a cut of that 18%. I'm telling you, the waitress was terrible. When she brought the chix & stix meal, she brought ketchup in a sticky looking mustard bottle, with her ungloved finger pressed onto the tip (for the cost of our meal, you'd think they could afford clean ketchup bottles)! And if you think she checked in on us throughout our meal, think again. I think she popped in maybe once. But why should she have made any effort at all? She had already decided that she was getting an 18% tip no matter what just because we were a ""table of 8."" You know, it's sad because it's a cute place to eat. The pizza isn't fantastic but it's not bad. For the service and the cost, NOT worth it. Will not go again. To think that my toddler, who eats off of my plate, would be considered a full sized person in order to gain an 18% tip! It's ridiculous! I do believe in tipping waitstaff very well ... but I still expect good service before doing so.
