ROCA Salon & Spa

I have lived in Overland Park, Kansas for 5 years and I finally got a great hair cut. Thanks to Andrew at the ROCA salon. He also helped me cover my gray and gave me very natural looking highlights. I love the cut and have gotten many compliments on the color and the cut. I gave the place only 4 1/2 stars because it is expensive and the salon experience is not very relaxing. They are building a new Salon to open this Summer and I hope that will improve. Andrew is new to the salon but he is very talented and very nice. I loved him! more

Would perfect be too hard to accept? I still get the same great service that I have become accustomed to, years later than my first appointment with Rod Cavner. Rod styles and colors my hair exactly the way I've asked. On occasion, I've asked him to style my hair according to his own whim and I get a totally new look. Again, perfect! His results are consistent, and display his talent for individual styling, color, and cut. His additional staff are skilled artisans and their motto is a carbon copy of Rod's- Customer satisfaction is Number One. Thanks Rod. Rosemaryg more

It takes a lot to get me to change hairstylists, but my first visit to ROCA salon was exactly what I'd hope it would be. Rod gave me great advice about my style choice and what would work best with my type of hair. I love the cut, Rod was charming and the staff made me feel very much at home. No doubt about it, I will be back. more

I have been going to Rod for over 19 years.....he is the most awesome hairstylist in the metro area along with his beautiful wife Rhonda. I have never walked out of their salon unsatisfied with anything.....Thank you Rod for all you do for my head of hair.....:) more

This salon is everything I could ask for: excellent services, a really nice receptionist, and a place where I am comfortable in jeans and no makeup, (others were dressed in business attire, casual, or jeans). Everyone is SO friendly. You just HAVE to check it out!! Oh, I drive 40 min. to get here and it's so worth it! more

I've never written a review before, but have to say how impressed I am with Joey. He is so knowledgable and took the time to show me how to style my hair to save time in my morning routine. The cut is amazing! I can't believe it took me this long to find him but I am so glad I did. He also did a wonderful job on makeup and gave tips and product advice. Joey was very attentive and listened well. This is the best cut I've ever had! more

I have lived in KC for almost 5 years and just could not find a stylist that I was happy with. I was about to give up when I read the reviews for the Roca Salon. I called and got a appointment with Joey. He listened to me whine about my hair having no shape, and a color that washed out my face. I had some ideas but I let Joey tell me what he thought would be best. He suggested colors and a cut that I would not have picked. I decided "what the heck, trust the guy"! He did a great job. My color (or colors) are beautiful and they actually put life back in my face. The cut is perfect for my natural curly hair. BONUS, Joey is a make-up artist and he was able to give me some product and color hints!! Seriously, I am so pleased. I actually will look forward to hair appointment day!!! Thanks, Joey!!!! more

After I moved to Kansas city, I had been looking for a place that provided good hair treatment - my roommate had mentioned ROCA before but i never paid her any mind - that was until I really needed it. I booked an appointment with them as soon as possible, they even squeezed me in at the time that was more convenient for me. Everyone there is so nice and courteous. Joey took care of me for the first time, he was amazing with my hair, and with his actual hair knowledge. I definitely recommend this place! Ask for Joey :) more

In an act of cheap massochism, I tried to dye my own hair with a box from Walmart. The results were disastrous-- picture Ronald McDonald meets the chick from the Fifth Element! In a panic, I trolled the internet looking for a savior, and Roca salon-- specifically, Joey--was it. Joey was so knowledgeable about color and overall style, that after a 2 day process I looked like a model instead of a clown. He even tweaked my haircut and touched up my makeup-- free! Plus he was sooo friendly and did not make me feel bad about my horrendous self-dye job. I will never buy a box from Walmart again-- Joey is a color master! I have been all over the world, including Vidal Sassoon in Chicago and Germany-- Roca is definitely among the best anywhere! Pros: wonderful talent, friendly staff Cons: none I can think of more

I came here with no expectations after having my hair butchered at other salons around the city. If I find a good stylist I will return... But, when I found the Best stylist... well, I drive the distance to see him!!! Oz is, to say the least, amazing. I don't think I have ever had so many compliments after only one visit, from family, friends and even people out in the streets!!!!! He helped me understand what the other stylist had done to my hair and why I wasn't getting the results I wanted. He is the only stylist who took the time to listen and because of him, I understand now how to keep my hair looking healthy and how to get more body in this hair of mine that once looked tragic. I mentioned on "Cons" that they need more room. I felt cramped with the stylist behind Oz. He kept placing his things close to my stylist, which Oz so politely kept moving them away. I visited a dear friend here in the city and in desperate need of a haircut. She spoke so highly of her salon and her stylist (whom she can't say enough great things about). I decided to make an appointment and see what she was so passionate about this place. To cut a long story short.... I now make my monthly visit to Roca for my haircut at Roca. My new stylist, Oz, is truly amazing. I make it a point to make another appointment before I return home to Miami. Pros: Friendly Staff Cons: small, but I hear they are moving more

My experience did not meet my expectations. It was not a relaxing environment for me. The pedicure area was so cramped with misc items, boxes behind the chairs and just stuff all around, that I could barely climb into the chair and all during the pedicure I got to view and hear ALL that was going on in the rest of the shop. I have never had tissue between my toes before instead of the toe guards to protect the polish until it dries completely. The staff performing the pedicure did a fairly good job, but I felt she was not very experienced. Again, Just NOT worth the price. I've had hair disaster after hair disaster since moving here from New York last year. (I had to go back to NY twice just to get it straightened out!) I have finally found the only colorist who could deliver what I was used to, and even better! Rhonda is truly a master of her craft. I found her listed as one of the best stylists in Kansas City in KC Magazine. Believe me, she IS the best! She teaches color and her knowledge is incredible. My hair feels and looks better than it ever has. She trained at a Sassoon school and gave me a fabulous new haircut, too! Her prices are quite reasonable for her sophisticated talent in this city; she could easily charge $500 and up in New York for a haircut OR color! (I might add that she offers intelligent conversation,too, which is a rarity!) And, her assistant is adorable and does a great blow-dry! Don't bother searching around - I have done that for you, and Rhonda is THE BEST! Pros: Unique atmosphere; AMAZING talent; great products Cons: Are you kidding? This place is great! more

So I found my new stylist (JOEY) when he was nominated in KC Business Magazine as a rising star in Kansas CIty. His Bio matched him so well he was everything the magazine said he was. He first looked me in the eye and said "What style are we creating for you" no one has ever asked me that and really listened to what I wanted. The color was amazing and rich. He created layers I can even style and make look like he did in the salon. The best part of my experience with Joey was while he was styling my hair he was educating me on how to get the look at home and then to top it off He did my makeup and completed my style I asked for and more. Ladies of Kansas City if you want a great stylist, go to Joey at Roca Salon he truly gives you the total look. I am a recent transplant to mid-Missouri, and have to travel 2 hours to KC for any kind of quality service. I have lived in Detroit, Chicago, and Atlanta so I am used to big-city amenities, including skillful and current hair stylists. I have thick, straight and fine hair that is partially grey and I am VERY picky about my haircuts and the look of my hair - at age 55, I want to be up to date, but not over the top. Obviously, I am not going to waste my time with a less than satisfactory hair salon. After much internet analysis of what KC had to offer, I decided to try ROCA and was not disappointed! My stylist, Curtis, is a charming young man and actually taught me something new about my hair that past stylists (whom I loved) never mentioned. My haircut looks great and is easy to manage. I have not yet had the opportunity to try any other salon services, but plan on it soon. I didn't think the prices were out of line for the quality provided, and compared to a larger city, they are reasonable! I have learned in looking at internet reviews for KC businesses that I have to read between the lines to distinguish between the opinions of those who are more urbane vs. less in order to get opinions that are pertinent to what I am looking for...so don't be turned off by a few negative comments. I would recommend ROCA to anyone... and have, many times! I have had nothing but great experiences with the stylists there, and I am very pleased to have finally found a stylist who I can use consistently and who does wonders with my hair (Joey)! The atmosphere is relaxing, the stylists and other employees are all fun and easy to talk to, and going in there is always like a little break from the real world. They carry unique and high-quality product lines that you can't find elsewhere in this city, and are, as far as I'm concerned, stylists of the highest caliber, comparable to those you might find in NY or LA. Only complaint is that it can be pricey, but I have never been anything but pleased with the services I've had there, and I'm a firm believer that spending a little bit more for better service and professional stylists is important when taking care of your look! I was searching for a place to bless my wife for Christmas. I had no idea where to look...ROCA's website was very helpful and Laura was a professional at walking me through my options. I recently moved from Lawrence, KS to Kansas City...where I had the same stylist for 10 years! I was very nervous about finding a new stylist and decided to try Joey based on reviews from this site.
