I paid him up front for a resume because he said I could expect a near final draft within 7-10 days. THREE weeks passed and not only did I not receive the resume, but I did not even receive the slighest communication from Mr. Brubaker. I had to contact him, only to hear an excuse for the lateness. Then, he told me to expect the resume within a day. Sure enough, the next day, he had another excuse, ""computer was malfunctioning."" FINALLY, he sends it to me with apology, claiming to be a perfectionist, and that was why it took him awhile. The resume format was nice, but there were blatant grammatical errors all over the place. I guess his perfectionism has its limits. Honestly, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM UNLESS you don't mind doing business with a man who misses deadlines and makes you hound him to receive the final product. It's not worth the headache, in my opinion. He does have a pleasant personality though. more

I noticed some terrible reviews citing Mr Brubaker's unprofessionalism and inability to meet deadlines. Desperate and unable to find another suitable company, I decided to go with my gut and give him a try (despite poor reviews). John promised me I would have a draft to review in one week. 2 weeks later, I had not heard from him. I emailed him twice before he responded ""I need some more information, your masterpiece is in the works.. you will have it tomorrow"" Next day, nothing. I email him again and he assured me I would have my resume by the end of the weekend. Sunday night I had still not heard from him. I emailed him again and demanded my money back. After another week of chasing him and threatening to file in small claims I did receive a full refund. John was polite and professional in our interactions. His assistant was very helpful and quick to respond. But, I should have listened to the poor reviews and avoided doing business here. There are better services at half the cost and hassle. The 5 star review on this site looks like shameless self promotion from someone who works there. more

Don't believe the name - incredbly unprofessional 3/8/2011

I worked with Mr. Brubaker in April of 2010. It was late November before he finally got my everything I had paid for. We met multiple times, and he was never ready for me at my scheduled time. For my second appointment, he wasn't at his office at all, and then tried to tell me that I'd gotten the appointment time wrong. We re-scheduled, and when I arrived at my next appointment, I was appalled at his appearance. I'm not a superficial guy, but when meeting a business client, I'd expect you to be showered, and not wearing a dirty t-shirt and athletic shorts. At the very least, comb your hair. He looked exactly like he'd just fallen out of bed. After he got my money, he was impossible to contact for months. He never responded to my e-mails or messages. I contacted his assistant several times, who always forwarded my messages to him (always ccing me), but John ignored them. I didn't get a response until I demanded a refund. I immediately got a response and he sent me a half-assed resume and cover letter. Absolutely do not work with this man. He's incredibly lazy and irresponsible. more

Sadly, a waste of time and energy 2/9/2010

Worked with Mr. Brubaker one year ago after listening to an interview with him on NPR. Think 3-card monte - he appeals to ones ego (already in bad shape because of unemployment), hints at the employment opportunities that are available for such a great person, and promotes his resume-writing services - $700. For the three months that I worked with him, he did not make one single deadline - deadlines that he set, and only after repeated calls and reminders did he produce a canned response that was created in a word-processing format that made it nearly impossible to alter or correct. And yes, taking my resume, he managed to introduce numerous typos and factual errors that required rather extensive editing. Sadly, he catches us at a very vulnerable moment and takes full advantage. When I registered my complaints, he did refund half of the fee...but still pocketed $350 for a couple of hours of chat and about one hour of find and replace. For $100+/hour, not close to worth it. Stay away. Buy a book. Talk to a friend... Pros: Nice office Cons: Very poor service more
