Priestley & Sons Portland Moving Company

Priestly & Sons has moved me twice in the last 6 months and both times it was timely, careful and efficient. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. more

I used movers to relocate from Alexandria Va to Portland Oregon. I also used movers to take me from SW Portland to Eastmoreland. I recently used Priestley & Sons to make a small move in Beaverton. I was very impressed with this Company. From the moment I made the phone call, I felt I was in good hands. I went into details about my dinning room table. This piece of furniture always makes me nervous in a move. It is solid glass, the top weights over 350 pds and I paid over 5 thousand for this table. In this move, the table would need to go down a flight of stairs and then up another flight at the new location. I requested two men and a truck. The woman at Priestley, refused to book the move unless I paid for three men and a truck. She explained, they didn't want to risk damaging my table. Although, I did not want to pay for three men, I felt safer with three men. When the truck arrived with three men, I started to explain what ""my"" game plan was. In a very respectful and re-assuring voice, I was told to allow them to do what they are trained to do. I did tell the men, the amount of time (money) I was allowing them. The front door was wrapped in mats, the men went to work and in record time, I was moved. They worked to my time frame. There were no add on fees. No damage occurred. Extremely professional. I will use them again if I ever move again, hopefully no time soon. more

We recently hired this company to move our elderly mother to a retirement community. From start to completion, we couldn't have been happier. No one knows anything about these alleged damages or complaints. As an active co-owner of Priestley & Sons, I know my staff would not conduct themselves in this manner and would never treat a customer in this way. Priestley & Sons is a local moving company doing business in Oregon and Washington since 1929. We handle an average of 5 to 10 moves a day, have an “A” rating with the Better Business Bureau and are in excellent standing with O.D.O.T. This never happened and it is very disheartening that I must respond to something such as this. more

One of the movers seemed to be coming down off a meth high. Angry. Impatient. Started off by putting a doorknob hole in my wall. I should have put a stop to the move then and there. As the day went on he just got worse and worse - damaged my television, broke the glass on my best piece of art, lost things. The senior mover on the crew did nothing to manage this situation -- even said, ""How do we know that hole wasn't already there?"" The worst part: The owners at Priestley took no responsibility for any of it. Wouldn't even really talk to me. Demoralizing experience all around. more

This company has moved my household twice. Once in 1996 when we were 2 adults and a baby, then out of that house 12 years later when we were a famiy of 4. I will never use anybody else. \r \r They were professional. The estimate I got for the more recent move was spot-on. The movers were amazingly strong. They took some crazy-heavy and huge stuff up a flight of stairs with a 90-degree bend without any damage to anything. \r \r I can't comment on their cost compared other movers because I never considered using anybody else. I have never seen such strong, capable movers-- ever. They were like superheroes and nothing seemed to pose any difficulty for them. They would put their hands up between the heavy furniture and the corners of walls just to make sure nothing was damaged and I was worried they'd pinch their hands but they knew exactly what they were doing. We will be especially asking for Arthur and Chad back if they are free next time we move. Everyone who needs movers in my circle will know of our superior experience... I will also be sure to tell the story of walking into the living room and seeing Chad holding the weight of an entire couch by one end all by himself! I felt like I was witnessing an episode of That's Incredible. Arthur was a gentleman and explained each and every step, suggesting ways they could help (at no extra cost!) to make the move more efficient for us. When I had first had them come over, I'd told them I only wanted them to move a couple things we couldnt lift out of the upstairs because I didnt want to get charged a ton of money for a longer job. They were so fast that we ended up asking them to clear everything out of the whole main floor for us as well! Even then, the time it took was less than half of what we'd budgeted for. We had staircases at both the old house and the new house, and some really heavy items and it was like they were child's play for the professionals on this team... Exactly as the nice lady I'd talked to originally when I booked the movers had promised me on the phone. The stark contrast of this experience vs. two other moving companies we've hired in the past two years is why we will always call Priestley and Sons if we need to move furniture.\r Pros: everything as promised in half the time Cons: we didnt hire them for our OTHER moves more

Priestley and Sons said the job would take three to four hours and it took three and a half hours with some extra items. They laid pads in the front door and didn`t get my carpet wet even with all this rain. I have had Priestley & Sons move my belongings now for the third time, I was definitely impressed when the took my hot tub down the hill in my yard, and placed it on my patio with absolutely NO damage!! The crew were very professional, their truck was clean and orderly, the guys were friendly, and humorous during what would normally be a very stressful time. They took the stress OUT of my move. For my first time having my things packed and moved, I unfortunately chose this company. The guys told me I could go ahead and leave and they would handle everything. They did get everything packed and moved in their estimated time. When they brought my things to the new place, however, they did not bring everything. I noticed my vacuum cleaner did not arrive and asked them about my front closet. The fellow stated they forgot to check there and said sorry. I was stunned and didn't know what to do. I was unable to return to the house. So there went my vacuum, all of my coats and my sons, games and wrapping items. So they left, not offering anything. Later I was to discover they also left behind all my pots and pans stored in the stove drawer (where alot of people store theirs), all the drawers in my bathroom and the mats, they also left behind two boxes which happened to be under a table they did bring. What is that?? When I called the company, all they offered to do was to go pick up the stuff and bring it to me. In my situation, that was out of the question. I do not recommend this company at all unless you plan on babysitting them. Pros: Completed in estimated time, friendly Cons: Forgot a bunch of my stuff! more

They showed up on time and went right to work. They packed up everything, nice and neat. Drove it across town and loaded it into our new house. We had a PODS container that they unloaded and moved into the house as well. They protected the entry way, hardwood floors, and carpets with blankets and runners. No damage. They worked together well, were very polite, and energetic. Actual cost was very close to the estimated cost. I wouldn't move again with out using these guys. It was a great moving experience. I had a small one bedroom apartment that I thought should only take two to three hours to move, instead it took them 6. Three different items were damaged. I made the mistake of thinking they were only moving 4 miles how much could get damaged...huge MISTAKE.\r Buy insurance if you work with these guy!!!! These guys were so great. I was on a very tight budget and they had my whole apartment loaded, driven across town and unloaded in 2hrs. \r \r The one guy literally ran up the flight of stairs every load. Nothing broken or damaged. Arrived on the dot. Highly recommended. Pros: On time- friendly, fast, careful workers Cons: None! more

Something must be going sideways with this company after all these years--the guys that came to move me wasted aton of time fooling around, and they caused a LOT of damage. These guys were friendly, efficient and far more attentive than I would have expected. By attentive, I mean that they realized moving freaks me out and were courteous, empathetic and reassuring. These guys packed all of my stuff, drove it nearly thirty miles, then hauled it up to the third floor all in less than three and a half hours. I was amazed.
