The Whole Truth 2/8/2012

I am writing in response to Danielle’s review on Dec 13, 2011. Upon arrival to home, a sizeable hole was cut in the drywall in the master bedroom. Once the plumber was able to ascertain the leak was not a plumbing issue, he referred the home owner to Preferred Restoration. Upon inspection of the attic, a leak was found in the roof, close to a vent stack. A second leak was also found above the shower in the bathroom, also close to a vent stack. A roof inspection was done the very next day. Upon inspection, it was found that a tarp was necessary to keep any further water from intruding into the attic. The home owner was made aware, the day before, that if necessary a tarp would be needed. The large dehumidifier was necessary due to the fact the walls in the bedroom had high moisture content and needed to be addressed. It was explained to them concerning filing an insurance claim with their insurance company. They were informed our services would be billed directly to the insurance company in the event of a claim. The home owner was also made aware Preferred Restoration would work with them in the event a claim was not filed. The invoice was directly justified for the service provided. The tarp on the roof was necessary to prevent any further water from entering the attic and the home. The dehumidifier was necessary to control the moisture content of the master bedroom wall. The home owner was not billed for any service that was not provided, nor unnecessary for their specific situation. The home owner was billed for services provided based on standard insurance pricing guidelines. All expected work performed by Preferred Restoration was communicated to the customer before any work was started. 1. The home owner was NEVER charged for an inspection. The home owner was charged for a service call once water mitigation was deemed necessary. 2. The equipment was left at the home in direct verbal agreement with the home owner to help control the high moisture content in the master bedroom. The cost of the equipment was explained to the customer and that it would be billed directly to the insurance company in the event of an insurance claim. The services provided were based on the agreement with the home owner. The whole process was under their direction and control. The home owner decided not to file a claim with their insurance company, which is their choice, however once they made this decision Preferred Restoration was not informed. Multiple actions were taken to communicate with the home owner in assisting them with the repairs needed to their home. The final communication from the home owner was to pick up the equipment. The home owner was told an invoice would be issued for the services rendered. When informed of this, the home owner did not question cost or the fact an invoice of services was being issued. Upon receipt of the invoice and the cost, is when the home owner addressed their concerns. All their concerns were addressed and answered. If the invoice was unjustified, why then did the home owner pay at all?? In the end, this was a home owner who tried to get something for nothing. Services rendered should be paid for. By submitting half of the payment, the home owner acknowledged a service needed, a service provided and a service which needed to be paid Preferred Restoration is a privately owned company. Preferred Restoration strives to meet the demands of every customer. Preferred Restoration has a AAA+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a high rating from Angie’s List. more

BEWARE.... 12/9/2011

I am writing this review to express my disappointment and concerns with Preferred Restoration & Construction, Inc., in Davidson, North Carolina. On September 30, 2011 I contacted my home warranty company, to investigate a water leak near the drywall seam in my master bedroom. The ticket was dispatched and a plumbing company was sent to my residence to determine the cause of the leak. Unable to determine the cause of the leak, the plumber referred me to Preferred Restoration & Construction (PR&C). I contacted PR&C and the Operation’s Manager came out to our home, inspected our attic and determined a hole in the interior of the attic was the cause of the leak. The Operation’s Manager stated that he did specialize in roofing and that he would request that his roofing staff come to inspect our roof the following day. Also, he stated that we did not have to be home for the roof inspection to occur and he suggested that he leave a large dehumidifier for our bedroom. It had been communicated to us that we would be contacted on Monday to provide us with an estimate. I asked the Operation’s Manager if there was a ball park figure he could provide me and he said that his manager would communicate the estimate information and he would speak to the insurance company because he used to be an insurance adjustor. On October 3rd we did not hear from PR&C, I contacted the company via email to inquire about the estimate and did not receive a response until Tuesday, October 4, 2011 to inform us that someone would come out on Friday, October 7, 2011. We then opted to retrieve two other estimates from other firms. After receiving the estimates, it was concluded the reason for the water leak was due to outdated ridge vents. Once we decided to go with another firm to complete the repairs, we were given an invoice! PR&C NEVER informed me of their associated costs for their service. I refused to submit the entire payment for the services that were provided, but generously submitted a cashier’s check for half of the invoice. The rendered invoice was totally unjustified for the service that was provided. I sent an email after receiving the invoice expressing my concerns, and he suggested that I file a claim with my insurance company or he would be forced to place a lien on my property. PR&C submitted their invoice to me on October 11, 2011 and a mechanics lien was placed on my residence on November 7, 2011. The expectation of their services does not align with what is communicated to their customer. The following are steps, that each potential customer should follow before deciding to use Preferred Restoration & Construction, Inc., 1. Always INQUIRE and get a signed agreement PRIOR to receiving an inspection from this company. Do NOT assume inspection of your home is free of charge, regardless of what is communicated to you. 2. NEVER allow this company to suggest leaving any equipment, without receiving a signed agreement of the COST. 3. Ensure whatever is communicated to you, is submitted in writing. In closing, I would NEVER recommend Preferred Restoration& Construction Inc. to perform any repairs in your home. This company has unfair practices to persuade you to hire them. If you decide to hire this company to complete any repairs in your home, PLEASE take heed to this warning. more
