Beware of this company 5/13/2012

We hired Nathan Moses and with preferred home builders to do an addition to our home in Encino, We were promised high quality finished construction but what we got with Preferred was an office staff who never knew what was going on and very low quality construction. When the job was completed we contacted Nathan and preferred about our list consisting of the exterior stucco which was cracking and peeling off, our closet door which was falling apart, the closet system which fell down, the laundry door that fell down, the hole in our laundry room wall, no caulk around our baseboards, nails popping back through the walls in the master bedroom and bathroom a new bathtub faucet that leaked from the minute it was installed. Now after the work has been completed the grout has come out on the floor of our kitchen, the tiles are cracking and coming up, now the entire kitchen floor has to be removed and done the correct way. I contacted Tamir Pinhas (the owner) and after listening to him argue and yell at me that he was a reputable contractor the conversation ended without any offer from him to have preferred correct their completely low quality work, I gave up. The cost to correct Preferred Home Builder’s (The Friendly Contractor) work will be yet another added expense that I will have to pay for myself. The bottom line is that they sold us a High quality finished construction job but delivered a very low quality finished product, as of the moment I am writing this we have discovered that our tile in the kitchen is cracking and popping up, and we now have the drywall around the tub in the bathroom is dissolving and opening up due to improper installation. There are so many more issues than I can list. This company does not take pride in their work and has cut every corner in order to make more profit, I have spoken to both Nathan Moses and Tamir Pinhas but the only thing they did was yell and argue. This is completely unacceptable and you should be aware that this company has no concern about honesty or standing behind their work. Buyer Beware more

i had the worst experience 10/5/2011

I had my worst experience with a 'general contractor' we will call him "America's Worst". AW worked ok at first but at Christmas time they took like a four week break - im sorry i work for a living too - i don't get no four week break - They jacked me around for every little thing - in the end i got a decent deal on the rough carpentry - but they sucked hard on all the detail work - i ended up having all their work torn out years later and now its cool. 2nd experience was with me as GC and I did ok - you have to hire people and yer suppose to call three refs but dang i think most these losers get their family to do the recs for them. I did my kitchen remodel for about a third the price but even now I have to look at little defects cause the dude I hired was way too young and inexperienced. Third I hired a guy who was just starting out but had experience working for other GCs. He was good - he made some mistakes - but one thing i learned is never, never, never pay before the work is done - ;buy the materials yourself and pay them for labor after the job passes your inspection - Bad contractors are all the kids who beat you up in high school and dropped out - now they are contractors. more

Best contractor 12/9/2010

This was our 3rd experience with Tom & Preferred. Once again, Tom gave us a "guaranteed" start and end date which they once again hit perfectly. Again, no changes from his original quote. Tom literally held our hand as we picked out tile, travertine, and granite. We probably called Tom no less than 25 times from the stores we went to without him to pick out plumbing and fixtures. Not once was there ever a hint of "stop calling me" from Tom. The workers we had at our house almost became part of our family for a couple weeks because they were so easy to speak with and so accommodating to ALL of our questions and concerns. We received calls from the office just to let us know what progress to expect to be done on that day. The workers took exceptional care of covering all parts of our room so as to limit the amount of dust. As Tom promised us from the day he 1st looked at our bathroom - we now have the "nicest bathroom" in our neighborhood. more

Would not use or recommend 5/7/2010

For my small one-room remodel, this outfit messed up about everything that could be messed up. Lack of required knowledge, poor communication, and not doing what they said they were going to do. The worst part was that they did not mask off the rest of my house, so the dust and dirt from the remodel wreaked havoc on my other rooms. Cost me plenty afterwards to hire people to come in and clean up, replace ruined stuff, and re-do some of Preferred's remodel so it was up to standard. They seriously need to learn how to do a proper grout line where the wall tile meets the tub. And not destroy the rest of your house while working. Pros: Finally finished the job Cons: Not satisfactory knowledge or workmanship more

Beware of PHB! SHODDY WORKMANSHIP 3/17/2010

PHB worst service that i ever dealt with. poor workmanship and uses cheap material. i would rather hire workers from home depot. Pros: none Cons: use cheap materials and labor, shoddy work, lies more

Home addition & Kitchen remodel 1/8/2009

Nathan, the sales manager, arrived promptly and interviewed us thoroughly. In the end, he was well aware of our needs.our progect was in a lot of aspects very complicated and we needed sombody very detail oriented to walk us through it.(involving framing, custom cabinetry, granite counters, tile work, and painting). preferred builders has a exellent team of workers. they arrived every day at 8 o'clock and left around 5pm.at the end of each day they cleaned up and left our house like a pharmacy.(unheard of).they are really neat and professional. Nathan was the consummate professional and was dedicated to doing a great job. This dedication to service did not waver throughout the entire process. Nathan met us at different stores to help us pick out the plumbing supplies and tile, and the work started on the date and time that was promised. the end result is just amazing, our new kitchen is stunning and the addition look like a perfect match to our house. we would highly recomend them to anybody that considering home remodeling, they are realy one of a kind, and we can confidently say that after speaking to 6 different construction companies. In this world, where contractors are dishonest and unreliable, Preferred Builders and nathan are a refreshing change! more

Home Addition 4/23/2008

We are so happy with our beautiful addition, 3 new bathrooms and remodel. Tom tour keen eye for the details truly will be appreciates for years to come. The archways, the stone patterns, the built in cabinets and the numerous other details have turned our house into a home. Jose (the formen) and the crew had pride in their work and showed much respect for me and our home. I found that from plumbers, electric and stone/tile crew I was allways in good hands. I will miss my daily talks with Limor (project manager). SHe allways was one step ahead in planning and when an issue arose she worked tirelessly to get the solution, from getting inspections scheduled to the final touches i couls allways count on Limor. We would like to thank all Preferred team. more

Complete interior remodeling in one month 4/11/2008

I called their number and set an appoitment with Tom, the owner, who met with me the same evening, at the site and went to work immediately. I will not go into details; suffice to say that I was very pleasantly surprised with him, his company and their professionalism every step of the way. I recommend without reservation for any remodeling, upgrading, new construction or anything else you need. Pros: very good comunication more

Best experienced of home addition 4/11/2008

My husbend and I selected Preferred Home Builders to design and build a two suite (includeing new full bathroom) for my mother to live in. The project included an addition of a bathroom, an expansion of an existing room and the conversion of a garage port in to a new room. Our primary goals were to make sure that the job did not look like an addition, and that the new suite was functional and comfortable.... we achive those goals. My husbend and I have done several re-model projects in the past, and I must say that this was one of the smoothest and most enjoyable re-model jobs that we have ever experienced. The crew was professional, hardworking and very clean. The office stuff was supportive, very well prepared and very reasonable when it came to changes and modifications...The final product is beautiful. more
