I recently stopped into Precious Metals and Gems. May I rot in hello with a needle in my eye, 4 molars that have to be pulled, kidneys stones that won't quit, gall stone, and diverticulitis before I ever walk into that establishment again. I had the misfortune of meeting Phil, the owner. I was told by someone he would help me. I truly believe he has changed a very popular phrase by store owners to ""the customer is always wrong"". He made me feel like I was imposing on him. He was truly the rudest business owner I have ever met and I'm quite sure he will be the rudest shop owner I will ever meet until the day I die. Maybe he changes if someone comes in wearing a $5,000.00 suit and since I wasn't dressed like the money I have (which I don't like to do just to see how I'm treated) I actually did business with that location quite a while ago and really didn't give it much thought since at that time I needed what they call mad money. Money that makes your wife mad if she finds it.the money. I sold him a ring and he gave me $225.00 telling me he was making $50.00. I was fooled by what I perceived as honesty since who really computes how much you're getting taken for while you're in a hurry. I was in a hurry so I didn't bother to figure it out. I later did and what I came up with angered me. Let me explain. He made $50.00 on $225.00. Right off the bat, that's 22.5%. Doesn't sound to bad until you figure he's making 22.5% in ONE day. If you amortize that over one year or 365 days it comes to a profit of 22.5 X 365= 8,213% profit! Can you imagine going into an automobile dealership (which everybody picks on), looking at a car that the dealer paid $30,000.00 yesterday for, and him telling you with a smile, ""I'll sell it to you for the low price of say, $249,390,000.00. You'd probably faint. In case you can't see the comma, thats eight thousand, two hundred and thirteen percent profit. So, I guess I'm saying, if you don't mind paying someone over (at least in my case) 8,000% profit then bring your metals to him. To some it up, if you're thinking of having a school, called RUDE SCHOOL, you want to have Phil as either your instructor or at least a guest speaker, if you don't mind him being rude to you. He really doesn't care if you're a customer or not, he'll adapt or simply let his true personality shine through, just plain rude! more

We went to Precious metals and gems to look at a wedding set that I had been hinting at for christmas. They were very friendly and helpful they showed us several styles and shapes. They were very reasonable on the prices. Once we decided which Ring set we wantred the gentelman helped us with sizing etc. The ring was ready quickly and is the most beautiful piece of jewelry I have ever owned. He made sure it was polished beautifully. Every detail was handled to perfection!! I was overjoyed when I opened my Christmas gift!!! Thanks so much!!! I would definately reccommend them to anyone! I inherited some coins and misc jewelry which i took several places around the area. Most didn act interested nin what i had, just offerred me 'x'amount. But precious metals took time to look thru my coins and paid me almost 50% more. They found a penny that they showed me the value n the book and paid me $35 for it, who would have thought, a $35 penny! i was very pleased with their professional manner. Even got to some coins that my kids wanted and still made more money than at other stores. Deffinatly check there before you sell your stuff! Pros: null Cons: null more

Beware of this place. Not all the employees will give you the same appraisal. My first time in this shop was a few weeks ago. I was trading in an old 14K men's band. The associate inspected, measured, and verified the jewelry. I received what I thought was a fair price. more

I went there with 2 diamond rings and was offered a fair price by a polite and knowledgible man. I decided to think it over and returned a few weeks later. The man I had previously dealt with was not there and so a guy who turned out to be the 'owner' waited on me. He not only offered me less than half of the other man, but acted like he had no idea who had waited on me before and was very rude and condescending. The first man took time to evaluate the rings. The owner did nothing more than glance at the rings, walk back to another co-worker, turned his back on me and was whispering to him. I can't repeat the entire conversation but let's just say this guy is rude, arrogant, and I advise you not to go there. I don't know what happened to the original person, but apparently he was no longer there and hopefully he quit and went to a more reputable dealer. Customer service goes a long way and there is none here. more

Been Buying and selling jewelry and coins from them for years! I was reading some of the reviews and I just dont understand. It is a shame the only people that leave feedback are people that are mad that it is not a perfect world! Trust this place 20 years and not one bad experance! more

I went to this store after an Internet search for area coin shops. There were 3-4 people woking behind the counter. There was only one other customer in the store. I entered the store without any greeting. I looked in the cases at the coins. No one offered any assistance, let alone a "Hello". I walked out of the store without any interaction with the staff. Prices were excessive. I won't be back. Hope to find a coin store in KC that I can trust. more

I went to two other coin and jewelry shops in the metro and was treated like rudely and was told my jewelry and coins were just worth there metal content. When I went in see them I was greeted at the door, was talked to like a human, and they found three silver dollars that were worth $100 each a lot better than the $16 each at the other places. I also received $50 more for my gold! I love this place! more

I brought a gold coin in for them to look at. It had been pried out of an old belt buckle (I wasn't part of that) so I wanted to make sure that it didn't still have some rare coin value. The guy just looked at it and told me it was fake. I asked him if he meant a fake coin, and he replied that it wasn't even gold. When I challenged him, he stated unequivocally that he could tell - by sight - what was gold and what wasn't. So why does everyone else need a gold test kit? If I had listened to him, I would have thrown away 1 Troy ounce of gold. They either don't know what they are doing or they don't care. What a wonderful organization! They take the time to make sure you can find what you want and never pressure you one way or another.
