Elegant, trendy neighborhood wine bar with a great selection of wines, not the best staff, but I don't go there to be entertained by them. This is a late night date place. more

Great selection, nice staff, we'll be back! 10/19/2009

Check this place out, I don't think they get a lot of press, but we were impressed with thier selection, price, and food offering. Happy hour, indeed! Pros: Nice vibe, friendly staff, very inviting Cons: parking on broadway more

This place needs help. FAST! 10/11/2009

I have been going here since 2005. Back then it was busy and hard to get a table on a Saturday night. I've been here probably 3-4 times a year since. And each time it goes downhill a little more. This time they had no, and I mean no Oregon Pinot by the glass. They were able to recommend something else, but to not have any Oregon Pinot by the glass seems weird. I was there for about two hours, and no one else came in the place, probably not a good sign for a Saturday night. The only staff member in the place left the building a couple times and we even teased him that we were going to steal the wine if he kept leaving us alone. Maybe the owner has been on vacation for a month? That's sort of what it felt like, no management, no one caring about keeping things running. Please make some changes! I keep coming back hoping for a good experience but I am getting tired of being let dow Pros: Great area, cool decor. Cons: Bad service, messy (wine boxes out), poor selection. more

You Can Do Much Better For Good Wine 2/5/2009

I read that this place is on the Top 10 list of Wine Bars. That would be fair if there were only 10 in town. The wine here is good, not great. Prices are good, but the food they serve is simple and the choices are pretty slim. The waitstaff is always the best part of this place. The biggest downer is the decor and atmosphere. It's very sterile 60's era white naugahyde. If you're in this neighborhood drive on to 28th and head to either Wine Down or Noble Rott. A better choice is the underrated Lupa on Mississippi. Or just wander to the Pearl and go to the best of the lot - Vino Paradiso. Pour has a nice owner and a good waitstaff but that's about it. Pros: Decent wine selection, great waitstaff Cons: Atmosphere, clutter more

Great date place 11/2/2008

I had a great experience at Pour. I went there on a first date, and the first thing we noticed was the inviting atmosphere. Once you're inside, you don't even know Broadway is right out the door. The girl who helped us was helpful and knowledgeable. We didn't really know what to order, but, with help, were very happy with the wines we decided on. We also ordered the cheese plate, the ravioli and risotto and all were delicious. I don't what the music in the background was, but it was nice...the whole air of the place just allowed us to enjoy great wine and talk to each other. Pros: atmosphere, wine, and service more

Great food and wine. 10/26/2008

We were visiting Portland for the weekend and heard that Pour was the place to go to taste and learn about Oregon Pinot Noirs. At first we thought we might be disappointed-- the whites we started with were only okay, and the female bartender was not helpful at best and downright rude at worst. Then, fortunately for us, the owner walked in. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and served us some GREAT wines alongside a great trio of dips, incredible pepper raviolis, and an excellent cheese plate. Highly recommended! more

Better Wine Bars Out There 10/20/2008

We arrived at 5pm for Thursday happy hour and stayed until 9pm. After 1/2 hour, we had to request that the woman bartender/waitress take our order, and then she never came back to check on us. I had 1 glass of wine the entire night. The place was about half full while we were there and was not overly busy. We did flag down the owner who was pleasant and took our food order. Be warned, the cheese sandwich on the happy hour menu is an unusual combination of cheese, onions and berries. more

Really unique space, GREAT wine list, fun owner 6/16/2008

First - Robert the owner is hilarious. He has a dry sense of humor and infectious personality. Fun! The bar is very stylish and the chairs are so comfy! Attention to detail has been thought out well in this space. The wine list is fantastic and I have enjoyed some interesting wines here. Great staff and some sort of Spanish-infused music that set the tone perfectly. I wish they had a little bit more food on the menu, because I would go there a lot more since I live nearby. But for your money and for a pleasant evening with nice, real people - you can't go wrong here. Pros: Wine List, Owner, Service, Atmosphere more

Best little wine bar, ever! 4/24/2008

I was just about broken hearted when I read the poor reviews on Pour. It's a GREAT place! Pros: chic, good service, tasty food more

THE Place for Oregon Pinot Noir 12/27/2007

If you're an Oregon Pinot Noir fan, this is the place for you. Not only do they have great Oregon Pinot's by the glass, but they have a page and a half on the menu of others to try - most all of them at very reasonable prices. The more expensive ones are even reasonably priced for he quality of wine. Pros: Wine List, esp the Pinot Noir list Cons: A little loud when crowded more

$0 degree red wine? 12/23/2007

I was served 40 degree red wine at $15.00 a glass. Out of turkey on Friday night for a sandwich. No name wines were very pricey. Three stars very generous. Plain and simple, thats what we experinced. Cons: too loud, poor wine more

Great lil' neighborhood wine joint. 10/26/2007

I've worked in the food/wine industry for awhile. I know how most ""wine by the glass"" lists work. They take the wholesale price of the bottle and that is the ""by the glass price."" Not at POUR. Imagine my surprise when I saw several glasses of wine available for about 1/3 the retail bottle price. Ken Wright 2002 Pinot Noir by the glass for less than $20 a glass??? Unheard of. The majority of glasses in the $7 range were quite respectable too. Pros: Great wine list, nice servers, cheap but fulfilling food Cons: can get kinda loud when table of 5 women started cackling more

Amazing Wine List, Great Staff, Reasonable prices 10/25/2007

I went there on a Thursday night and at first wasn't so sure because it seemed like such a small place in there and it was pretty crowded, but I was so impressed with the wine list and the staff, that I'll be a regular. First, they have some amazing wines on the list for what I felt were fair prices. So many times, I have trouble with wine bars because I think they are a overpriced from the retail prices. Second, we had such a great time with the staff, they knew their wines and were helpful in finding something in our price range that everyone would like -- and they got it right with the Purple Hands and the Pappis -- we even bought some to go. The nice thing about it was I didn't feel that there was a high-pressure to up and over sell us, the wines were well priced and good, and they were right for our group. Sometimes I get tired of the over solicitous upselling by staff, who are only interested in selling the most expensive thing on the menu or pushing you to buy somethimg you don't want. Very relaxing, fun, easygoing atmosphere and staff. Pros: Easygoing atmosphere, fair prices, staff Cons: Smaller space, parking, loud at times more

Not at all impressed...although the almonds were delicious 10/16/2007

We went to Pour fairly recently and the first thing we noticed upon entering (aside from the chic 60s decor) was that there was a terrible toxic odor in the establishment - perhaps it had just been freshly painted? We almost left, but were intrigued enough to stay because we'd never been there before and wanted to check it out. All in our group are 'foodies' and three of us are pretty knowledgeable about wines, with two of us having worked in the wine/food industry. Pros: the food was good Cons: pretentious staff, strange toxic odor more

Decent wine bar, service can be spotty 8/1/2007

I've been to Pour a few times now and had similar experiences. The food is good though the Happy Hour menu is a bit breif. The grilled cheese sandwich was quite tasty and the wine prices were good. My overall opinion on Pour is that it is good but not great. If the owner is not serving you, the other wait staff seems rather disinterested and aloof. I don't want to have a lengthy chat but a bit of warmth would be nice. I think if they added to their menu a bit and had the staff be a bit nicer this place could become great. Pros: Great grilled cheese sandwich, nice wine selection Cons: Aloof wait staff and limited menu more

Good wine spot with wonderful food 12/7/2006

My husband & I checked out Pour on Tuesday night. We'd read the reviews before going so were prepared for it to be a bit stark. It isn't as homey as some other places but our service was excellent, the food was wonderful, wine selection more than adequate. One review indicated this place isn't good for groups. When we arrived, there was a group of 6-8 people who had pulled tables together and were having a wonderful time. They were still enjoying their evening together when we left so I would have to disagree. I had ordered the smoked salmon panini but when a comment was made about the risotto of the day, our waiter offered that it was smoked salmon with crab & mushrooms & if I was debating between the two, he highly recommended the risotto. I went with that and was glad I did. My husband ordered the 3 dips with bread. The owner/chef (?) brought it to us & proudly described what each one was; fig with kalamata olives, butternut squash & cannelini (?) beans with garlic, olive oil and sea salt. This place had a neighborly feel & the gentlemen running the establishment appear to take great pride in their work. Pros: creative food & wine selection Cons: more urban than rustic more

Best wine bar 10/29/2006

The atmosphere is hip yet comfortable. The staff is amazing at finding a wine to fit your tastes! They have a great happy hour menu with $3 glasses of wine, what a deal!!! Great place for date night, girls night out, or just a casual night to enjoy good wine. I highly recommend Pour! more

Friendly, fun, easygoing 9/6/2006

A truly friendly, fun place with lots of great wines. I think I tried at least 3 different wines, all of which were interesting. My wife had an amazing salad and we shared a panini -- then out of curiosity I had the ravioli of the day and it was fresh and simple, a thumbs up. I think my favorite part was getting to try wines like Ken Wright pinot that I'd only ever heard about, but wouldn't have bought a whole bottle to try for myself. It was amazing, by the way. And for the quality, spendy but not out of reason for what it was and the opportunity to try. Happy hour is a great deal, and I really liked the wait staff. Give it a try -- it is intimate and small with a tiny kitchen & no hood that puts out great food for its size. It was great for a date but they have a long bench that a group was at when we were there, and they were having tons of fun, so not bad for groups, either. Pros: Great food, wines, fun service Cons: got loud with the group, but still had a fun feel to it more

Attentive Service! Excellent Wines! 9/5/2006

We have been there about 4 times. And each time has been an awesome treat. The server we get every time is hilarious, has a dry sense of humor and has recommended some great wines. When the owner Robert hears him telling us about one wine, he might come over and recommend another two or three good ones to pick from. The Valpolicello Ripasso was $29, superb! Can't wait to go back! They also had great Barbera D Alba, (I think that was the name). Pros: Attentive service, who know what they are talking about, $3 pours during happy hour! more

Fun, chic place 8/24/2006

So, the strangest thing -- went for a glass of wine and we stayed almost all night. The chairs are comfortable, the wine is great, music is interesting and people great -- both the waitstaff and the people who sat around us. I learned a lot about wine and even got some bottles to go. The best part is the Spanish style tapas -- nothing is too big, and you can get a table full of interesting food to nibble on all night. I think at the end we had tons of stuff -- ravioli, mac & cheese, risotto, salads, cheese palate, appetizers, trio of dips, dessert...etc. Nice! Pros: Interesting music, people, setting Cons: Can get loud more
