BUYER BEWARE! New owner, terrible service 1/5/2012

Spent my first anniversary here. Been back many times over the years. Original owner was fantastic concerning quality and service. Decided to spend our 30th anniversary this year at Potpourri and totally regret it. This has been one of our favorite places to dine over the years. The decor hasn't changed much but the cleanliness and the service definitely has. Our children know how special this place has been to us and they purchased gift certificates to Potpourri a few years ago as an anniversary gift. These were bought directly from Potpourri and were bought at full price ($100). The dining experience was ok but as we tried to pay with the gift certificates, the new owner rudely stated that he would not accept them because they were purchased before he owned the restaurant then turned his back and walked away. Now, I have paper that cost $100 but is worth nothing. Unfortunate, because this was once a classy establishment that prided itself on service. Last time I checked, when you purchase an existing business, you acquire that business' debt as well. After 30 long years of visiting this restaurant, we will never go here again. more

Intimate and memorable 5/30/2006

Go with a full wallet and leave with a full stomach and a smile. Very classy and romantic but not ""fancy."" It is reminiscent of a French chalet - rather dark with lots of wooden finishings. Good for a leisurely business lunch, meeting old friends or family, or a special night with the wife. There are lots of great dipping sauces, and the service was excellent. Definitely a worthwhile experience. Pros: ambience, fun experience, tasty food Cons: pricey, for for vegetarians more

still the best fondue in cleveland !!!!! 11/12/2005

after a recent visit to the potpourri,I was thrilled that although ownership had changed for the first time in 27 years, the service and food were still top notch. A review was long coming for this destination spot. especially after reading a recent review about having to cook your own food and pay high prices. First of all a trip to potpourri fondues only competition in legacy would find that reviewer still cooking her own food but for 15 to25 dollars more per person. Stick with the original fondue ,Potpourri!!!! more

Too expensive to be cooking my own food! 3/14/2005

This was my first fondue experience. I didn't realize that fondue meant I would be cooking my own food in a little pot filled with oil situated in the middle of the table. So that you aren't as suprised as I am, I will help to set an expectation. This restaurant is a very warm and romantic. The decor reminds me of the 70's. Wooden furniture and paneling, etc. There are NO FREE REFILLS on the soft drinks. The waitress was very nice and attentive. She taught us how to cook our food and directed us to entrees that would give us the full experience. The meat and vegetables came to our table raw in small portions. The meat needed to be seasoned a little better. For the cheese/fruit/bread appetizer, steak/shrimp/scallop/chicken meal for two the check was over $50. Pros: fun, season your own food, adventure in dining Cons: no refills on drinks, antiquated decor, expensive more

Love it! 10/19/2002

I love this place. The owner and staff are always so pleasant. They make you feel at home in this cozy romantic place. I've had the different types of fundue meals as well as their wonderful chocolate fondue. I enjoy them all. This is a great place to sit back, open a bottle of wine, enjoy the romantic setting and relax. Pros: ambience, service more
