Great Place for Loved Ones 10/1/2011

Portola Place is an excellent Board & Care Facility in San Mateo. Portola Place was rated in the top ten in San Mateo County 2010. I had the opportunity to get to know Armand and his great staff and see the excellent care provided to the Residents over the last eight years. I had a dear family member who lived at Portola Place for eight years. I disagree with the previous comment that the facility has a smell and that the staff is hard to understand. Check out Portola Place if you are looking for a facility that will provide compassionate reliable and competent care. You can not find a better staff to care for your love ones. more

Not A Place for My Loved Ones 6/11/2009

Soon as I entered the home, it smelled. Not sure of what, but it didn't smell fresh, rather more musk. I didn't see any interactions with the patients. The care-givers didn't seem to care about interacting with the patients. The care- givers didn't speak English very well. One person didn't speak English at all. How it that possible?\r \r In addition, the yellow page ad read that a RN was on duty. Didn't see any RN there. When I asked, they said she only came around for a minute every other day or so. care takers are very difficult to understand and do not speak English well; the place looks and feels more like a sanitarium than a care home; most residents are in their rooms all day just watching tv; smelly; Cons: Many more
