Editorial review from Citysearch 12/11/2012

I expect a server to be honest with us... My family came in and we ordered a Half Nacho since we asked how big the full nacho was and she said it was huge. At that point the server should have said we DON'T as in DON NOT HAVE a half nacho on the menu. Instead we were served a full nacho and charged a full nacho price. Obviously the server was upset when I asked about the Half nacho being $10.99 on our bill and we only ordered the half... Instead of being honest she said yes that is the half nacho price..BS...I don't like that kind of service...Porcupine needs to be on top of this kind of treatment especially during the holidays. The main problem with Porcupine since we have been going there for years has been their service. The food has been pretty spot on. I think the management really needs to pay more attention to what is happening on the floor. more

A Yummy Place to get a Beer with Your Dinner! 12/13/2010

It's a hard menu to choose from. For some reason nothing stands out because everything seems equally good.I usually end up getting the fish tacos and rock shrimp because they are both so delicious. more

My favorite restaurant 9/6/2009

Great food, especially the pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts. We have never had a bad meal there. Pros: Great food Cons: noisy more

AWESOME food with a wide selection of options, great ambience with a cool ""outdoorsy"" patronage, and VERY reasonably priced 11/8/2008

This is an AWESOME restaurant. It is always crowded, but there is usually not a very long wait for smaller groups. They serve large groups also, but if you have 6 or more in your party, I highly encourage a reservation. Porcupine is very reasonbly priced and the service is top-notch. Pros: Delicious food, varied menu, wide beer selection, fun ambience, good service, and cool ""outdoorsy"" patronage Cons: If you have a large group, please book a reservation as you might have a long wait more

STAY AWAY... ahh what the heck? Come on over! 6/6/2008

Please stay away. This is one of my fave places and it's always crowded enough without you! :-) Did one of the reviewers say ""overpriced""??? You've got to be kidding me!! Pros: Everything!! Cons: Ummm... nothing comes to mind! more

Best place to chill with a little dinner after a great day of skiing 3/22/2008

Yes you can go there with a large party. We go there 3 to 5 times a month with about 20 people at a time. Just like any restaurant you may have to wait a little longer. This place has the best sandwiches and salads not to mention the fabulous Beer. If you ski or snowboard this is the best place to stop after a long day on the hill. more

Their problem? 2/5/2008

I was actually considering going here for my birthday. Since reading the comment about not being good about large groups I've changed my mind. I'm sure the porcupine is a great place, however, I do think that it's just good customer service to cater to the customers even if it's a large group and split the bill. And I felt the need to comment after the ignorant comment about it being their problem? You seem a little bent about someone else's experience, are you working there or something? I've worked as a waitress, a server that can't split the bill is an inept one. Large groups are not just for Denny's and the problem was the restaurant. more

ummm beer 7/20/2007

This is one of my favorite places to eat, drink beer, and be social. The food is consistantly good, the service is always friendly and the atmosphere is fun. Even if you have to wait for a while to be seated, there is usually room at the bar to eat an appetizer if you're starving, get a drink, and you'll probably meet someone new. People go there all the time after a day skiing/snowboarding by themselves, so sit down and chill out for a bit. Whats better then great food, friendly service, fun atmosphere, and meeting a new friend?? Pros: location, beer variety, friendly staff, fabulous food Cons: parking lot is always crowded more

to the person that brought 17 people to a busy restaraunt 4/13/2007

If you're bringing 17 people to dinner and they don't take reservations- go to Denny's. Come on, be realistic. Also, take note....DON""'T BRING 17 PEOPLE TO DINNER AND SPLIT CHECKS.....THAT'S EVERY BIT RUDE. It's the equivalent then of being sat 8 tables at once. GET OVER YOURSELF. more

Popular after skiing location 10/30/2006

Wide menu variety and a good selection of local beers on tap. Breakfast menu is very good as well. more

Great after rideing grub stop 2/4/2006

My friends and I allways stop here after a great day on the slopes. Tuesday is our favorite day to stop by after rideing. The beer is $2 bucks and between 3 and 5 oclock the appetizers are half price. You can't beat the price or the location (the bottom of big cottonwood canyon) and the food is allways good. Do your self a favor and order the nachos you won't be disapointed. We love this place!! Pros: Nachos, Beer, Service Cons: Parking more

Not good for big groups 12/12/2005

I met 17 friends at Porcupine Grill for my birthday. They don't take reservations, we called an hour ahead to be put on the waiting list. We waited 45 more minutes. We did not have enough tables. One person had no surface. He asked for one more table, the staff refused. Our server said he could not separate our check. The manager said that if we were willing to wait an extra 20 minutes at the end of dinner, our server could separate the check then. They acted as though they were doing us a favor, and were very put-out by us. Our server brought us one check and it took us a half an hour to identify our orders. It took the server another 45 minutes to separate the check. I will never go there again. I have never been treated so badly in my life. Pros: good beer Cons: service, parking, crowded more

Meh, at best. 5/25/2005

Really not that impressed. We waited about 40 minutes for a table...and we had a reservation! On a weekday!! Then it took over half an our to get our food. I think we only saw our waiter twice during the entire visit. -Once to order our food, and once to get our check. Not very good service, and a little overpriced. Try a different restaurant, don't waist your time. Cons: Crowded, Slow, Poor service more

Always a Good Bite!! 8/18/2004

I have been going to the Porcupine for over 3 years now. The fish tacos are excellent and the philly cheesesteak rocks! The brunch is the best for the value, the portions are huge, and they have something for everyone. My personal favorite is one of the many fine brews they have on tap along with the Big Cottonwood Burger! The atmosphere is always fun and diverse. Perfect for a summer salad, as well as the hellfire wings after a day in the snow. Pros: Reasonably priced, Good Service, Many beers on tap more

overrated 6/19/2004

Chicken wings are terrible, fish ok, not sure why people rave about this place. OVERPRICED! Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: , food not good more

hellfire hot... and good 10/20/2003

my boyfriend and i are in slc on a business trip and we found porcupine pub and grill through citysearch. after reading the many good reviews, especially the review on the great hot wings, we decided that it would be worth trying out. my first impression was not great because of the atmosphere- looks like a bar/diner rather than a cozy pub. but the waitress was super friendly and the food was excellent. we tried the hot wings, with the hellfire sauce, and i was in tears. it was the best wings that we have ever had. very hot, beware. we also had the 4cheese pizza, yum. the blue cheese was not that impressive. overall, it was a great find. definitely worth checking this place out if you are in the neighborhood. Pros: best wings, friendly service, close to snowbird Cons: so so atmosphere, watery blue cheese more

Great Pizza 2/21/2003

Great crust on the veggie pizza,it was crisp and flavorful. Pros: Friendly Cons: Crowded more

You Won't Get Stuck Here 1/16/2003

Really good food. Their nuclear wings are well, nuclear. The hottest hot wings I've had in some time. Thier standard wings are great. Beer and good wings, it doesn't get much better. Service has always been good for me and the atmosphere is pleasant. I would recommend the Porcupine. more
