Best

My wife, daughter and I have been taking our cars to Kenny Polly and his late father since 1980. They have kept them running -safely- up to the minute we're ready to trade- probab...

Worst

If you don't mind car service that cost more, takes longer, and is makes the customer feel like a nuance then Polly's Shell is a great fit for you!

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/23/2015

I have been going to Polly Service since I first moved to Nashville 25 years ago. Always the best service, always did what was needed to be done and nothing more, and always always charged very reasonable prices. Furthermore, I have recommended many, many people to Polly's and they have had the same excellent experience. more

This is a warning to anyone needing a mechanic, Polly's Shell Service Center will not repair your vehicle properly, will over charge you and take your money.\r My daughter is a student in Nashville. I live four hours from her. I called a mechanic in our hometown and he referred us to Polly's. I called Polly's and the mechanic that we were referred to see no longer works there. We thought that we would try them due to not knowing anyone else. October 1st they said the truck was overheating because the waterpump was leaking. Dale at Polly's said he would need to replace the waterpump, timing belt, a/c belt, p/s belt and alt belt. We also needed a new p/s pump & pressure switch. That came to a total of $1300. Again, I had to trust that this was what the truck needed and the information that he was giving without seeing the leak.\r The truck continued to run hot a week later after she drove across town. My daughter took it back to Polly's on the 28th of October. Dale said that it was leaking somewhere else now and put stop leak in it and charged an additional $116. The truck is still running warm and leaking. She was able to drive slowly on a cold day to come home for Thanksgiving and we took it immediately to our mechanic. Our mechanic took the cover off and called us to show us that the waterpump had NOT been replaced and still leaks, there was no gasket used, the timing belt had not been put on/calibrated properly it was off a few degrees, the radiator was stopped up completely from the products that were put in to stop the leak and there were missing bolts in some of the parts.\r After calling Dale at Polly's and asking if he was going to assist with the $650 that we are going to have to pay to get the repair done properly, he refused and became very agitated, telling my husband, ""suck my a$$"". \r I have receipts, pictures and the old parts now. My advice is that if you don't want to have your 19yr old college student broken down dangerously in the middle of Nashville rush hour traffic due to incompetent crooks, find another mechanic. Polly's Shell just wants to rip folks off. more

Run Away from these Gomers 7/5/2013

These guys are a joke. Don't take anything to them except some gas, maybe they won't screw that up too bad.\r \r Had a Volvo with some vibration and Polly spoke as if he knew exactly how to fix. Well, some $ 1300.00 later, same problem\r and Polly seemed pleased with himself he offered me $ 100 off. \r \r I finally went to Darryl W, and another $ 900 got it fixed properly. These gomers should be ran away from. Just say NO.. more

Total Rip Off. These GOMERS slapped on $ 1300 worth of parts to my Volvo and did not even come close to fixing my problem.. Ended up at Darryl W, and they fixed for $900. All Polly did was knock off $ 100 in parts cost and acted like he was doing me a favor. Stay as far away as you can from this chop shop. more

RUDE DISHONEST and BAD BAD service 3/3/2012

The people here have to be the rudest I have EVER come into contact with...I saw one man yell at a senior citizen and had her crying because she did not park in the right place...I went inside only to find some woman who didn't want to hear what was wrong with my car and would have a mechanic call if there was anything they found. Of course, they always find something and its 5 times more than what they tell you on the phone when you go to pick up your car. When they did call to tell me my car was ready...I told her I might be a few minutes late...Her advice was to hurry up they didn't get paid to wait around for people nor did they have the space to store my car. AWFUL SERVICE.....I wouldn't have even given this place 1 star, but had to to review it.....so disrespectful to all.....others have had the same experience and refuse to go back. Do yourself and your family a favor and find someone that will at least treat you and others with some respect. Pros: null Cons: null more

I trust our lives to Kenny Polly 9/20/2011

My wife, daughter and I have been taking our cars to Kenny Polly and his late father since 1980. They have kept them running -safely- up to the minute we're ready to trade- probably 18 different autos! When we're looking to buy another used car, we take it to Polly to check it out. Daughter's Jeep is more than 200,000 miles old - thank's to Polly's. When it's a job they don't or can't do, Polly's referrals are spot on. We have referred dozens of friends (many teachers) and they all have voted "Thumbs Up." more

Terrible, expensive and did not fix my car 8/25/2011

I had a terrible experience here. I took my car in, paid $700 and was given back a vehicle with the exact same problems it went in with. I took it back to Polly's and was told there was nothing wrong with it other than age, but that there was no refund for the original service--why was this even done if the issue was "age?" Despite being told that my car that shook and revved when in neutral was "normal," I took it to the dealer, and had it fixed in a day for only $350 (it was a motor mount issue, which Polly's told me would cost $500-$800 to have done and was "not necessary"--yet this service from the dealer completely fixed all issues I was experiencing). I don't plan on straying from the dealer again, and I will certainly never take a vehicle back to Polly's. I wasted $700, a good four days without a car and a lot of frustration. more

Rude and Expensive 8/4/2011

Unprofessional and rude. 12/8/2010

Unprofessional and rude. I recently dropped off my vehicle at Polly's Shell. The second that I walked in I had the privileged of hearing the woman behind the counter (probably Polly) bicker with the mechanics on staff. Not only were the repairs almost a thousand dollars, but they had my vehicle for almost 4 days because they ordered the wrong parts. In my business, if I had caused a customer extreme inconvenience, I would at least have the courtesy to give them a discount. Nope. I still had to pay almost a thousand dollars. Never again. more

What happened here??? 12/31/2009

I have lived near Polly's for 3 years and have been taking my cars there ever since. They have always been honest and done good work. However, things seemed to have changed over the last year. I recently made an appointment for an oil change (yes, I considered it worth taking to Polly's even if I had to make an appointment)... I arrived 10 minutes prior to my appointment time since the man who scheduled it was kind of rude and told me not to be a minute late.... I walked home and 4 hours later they still had not gotten to my car! ...I picked it up and took it to Valvoline... where everyone was nice and it only took 15 minutes! Pros: convenient location, great prices, honest Cons: poor customer service more

Honesty, Expert Service 12/2/2009

I worked for Polly's 20 years ago when I moved to Nashville. I will tell you that the name Polly means honesty and excellent service. Kenny (Owner) not only taught me mechanical skills but also the importance of honesty. I was taught to diagnose not to just put parts on a car that arent needed till its fixed. This is a service center that is up on the new technoligy but still has old schools values on honesty, and integrity to its customers. Pros: Honesty more

Great, fast service 7/28/2009

I've always had good luck with Polly's service. We used to use them for my old work and I've been taking my car there for the random fixes that a 1998 truck needs. They are always very fast and reasonably priced. Pros: Quick service, good prices Cons: Smokey more

Highly Recommend 1/7/2009

I was recommended to Polly Shell from a few different sources. The staff is always friendly and usually very quick in getting the job done. They do get quite busy, but work hard to get my car completed as early as possible. I recommend getting there early in the morning so your car is done much sooner :) Pros: Customer Service, Price more

Best in NASHVILLE: 11/25/2008

Polly's is a family run business and they have been in business a long time. The men who own it now learned from their Father. They are loyal to their customers, honest and NEVER fail to help when you need them. They have always repaired our cars in a professional manner. They are especially courteous and kind. They NEVER fail to do the right thing by their customers and anyone who has written these reviews must expect something that is not humanly possible as I have never known the "Polly bosy" to be anything other than polite and kind to everyone who comes in their business. They appreciate their business and do all that they can to help one when in trouble with a car. They keep old cars running because they know some people cannot afford new ones. They never fail to offer some solution that is affordable to a problem. Thank God for the Pollys. They are not across from a church for nothing. Nancy Russell Pros: Service and honesty Cons: There are none more

Terrible customer service, bad phone etiquette 9/11/2008

Although this shop came highly recommended by several people and these reviews, I will not be patronizing them. Additionally, they are located in my neighborhood. I patronize local vendors whenever possilbe. It is good to help the small businesses succeed. Pros: In my neighborhood, Cons: No scheduling, Somewhat rude, No customer appreciation more

Exceptional, Honest Service 6/3/2008

As a female in my young 20s, I had my first really big car problem and had to handle it on my own. I found Polly's Service Center on Citysearch and read great reviews. Polly's is absolutely exceptional, and I will recommend it to all my friends. I am BEYOND impressed by their friendliness, honesty and very fast service. I took the car in at 7 a.m., and they had installed a new starter by 11:45 a.m. I think they appreciated me calling ahead to see if they could fit me in, as opposed to just showing up. The final cost was ONLY HALF of the estimate - they charged less for the labor because I guess it took less time than anticipated. They made me extremely comfortable, and I am thrilled with an experience that could have been a lot more painful. When I thanked the mechanic and told him how much he helped me out, he said, "We just treat people the way we'd want to be treated." I will use Polly's anytime my car needs work. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Extremely fast, honest service, made me feel comfortable Cons: I didn't experience any cons! more

trustworthy, helpful 4/24/2008

I've had these guys work on my car several times in the past few years. They have always done a good job. Recently I called them for advice about a friends car at another shop; they were helpful and happily gave me a second opinion. more

Best Mechanic Ever 8/3/2007

I was referred to Polly's years ago by a friend who had literally used them since he was 16 years old. In fact, his dad was a customer of Mr. Polly from way on back. I have been taking my vehicles exclusively to Polly's for about 5 years now, and have not had anything but great service. I have found Polly's Service Center to be very honest and affordable. Their prices are standard market rate, but you can trust their work to be done right the first time. I have a better than average knowledge about car repair, and do some of my own work. So I can "speak the language" with confidence. I've found nothing but great service and straight forward answers. Kenny Polly will not cheat you. They are my kind of mechanics ... they'll tell you it has to be fixed, or that you can "live with it a while longer." They are not magicians, and cannot perform miracles, so I'm sure they get things wrong sometimes - but deception is not their business model in a market where you are often deceived. You can trust them. Pros: Honest. Good at what they do. Cons: Very busy most of the time - but that's a sign of good customer return! more

I wish I found this garage sooner! 6/5/2007

I am a 28 year old woman with little knowlege about cars. I took my car to Polly's and they did a great job. Dale let me know what was wrong with my brakes and what options I had (three or four different suggestions). He told me what he would do if it was his car. He explained how long I could wait to get the problem fixed and how to spend the least amount of money. The entire process took less than one day from start to finish. The service center is tiny and chaotic but they did a great job on my car. I have been living in Nashville for five years and my only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner. Pros: honest, fair, reasonable Cons: busy- definitely call ahead more

Best service station in Nashville, Tennessee 3/9/2007

I've been taking my automobiles to Polly's for 15 years and have always been impressed with their serivice, and I've referred a number of my friends, who have also had very kind things to say about Polly's. I've now moved accross town, but go out of my way to let them do work on my vehicles. Reasons why: Pros: Honesty, Integrity, Price. Cons: Small lot, busy busy busy. more
