Pure Northern Italian Delight 9/13/2005

If its hard to get a table it is because the food, not to mention the wine, is so exquisite. The fresh Monterey Bay sardines were absolutely scrumptious! All of the appetizers, especially the antipasti, were elegant and creative. I'm not even a pizza-lover particularly, but the wood fired crust topped with rocket and prosciutto made me love the pie. I couldn't disagree more with the other review. Pros: hip, great music, nice wine Cons: hip more

Underwhelmed! 9/12/2005

Expecting good things, the overall dining experience was disappointing. The Margherita & Sweet/Hot Peppers with homemade sausage pizzas were excellent as was the Pappardelle alla Bolognese. However, that's where the good times ended. The service was stiff & indifferent. The Alla Pizzaiolo was ordered on the recommendation of our server and it was unusual and ornate, to say the least. As this is the diner's chance to experience the creativity of the chef, our chef that evening must have had his Christmas list in mind as we received oblong slices of zuccini, mint leaves and cherry tomatoes reminiscent of a Christmas tree ornanment and tasting just about as bland. The wine list is overpriced for a pizza joint with the prices beginning at $33 for a bottle of red. One would assume there might be a house wine suitable for drinking for less. We will definitely think twice before returning. Pros: Standard pizzas, Pappardelle Cons: Wine list, Service, Alla Pizzaiolo more

All form, no substance 9/1/2005

Waited 45 minutes for a table they forgot us. no reservations taken, and crowded, watched fully set tables stand empty while the maitre'd talked on his cell. My beer was room temperature. Many odd wines offered. We shared table with another couple. All ordered same time, our entire meal came before the other couple received any food. My pizza arrived anchovy-less. Waitress informed us the anchovies always came on the side, and eventually brought them. Sometimes employees just stood around, or moved at a leisurely pace while customers waited. A dish described as semolina gnocchi made from ground meat. A squid dish arrived with a pronounced spoiled fishy smell. Fried cheese appetizers cheese bland well paired with spicy rocket. Margarita pizza crust good, sauce bland, the buffalo mozzarella scarce. Very chic restaurant, obviously expensive decor, very poorly managed. We wouldn't go back. Pros: good decor, easy to get to Cons: bad service, mediocre food, badly managed more
