If you ever visit Wilmington The Pilot House is a must to dine at. The atmosphere is beautiful and the food is wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Never Again! 11/9/2008

Do not waste your time and money at this restaurant. After being led to our table, we sat there for 10 minutes, maybe more, without a waiter. Had to finally get up and find one ourselves. Food was overpriced and tasteless. I had the grouper and not only did it have a very fishy taste, it was hard to find it under a mound of salad. Once I found it , I was sorry I did. Such a shame that in this economy we threw away almost $100.00 on this place and still left hungry. Should have checked the reviews first. Pros: Beautiful view of the river. Cons: Tasteless food, poor service and overpriced more

Febulous 4/1/2008

Most restaurants in this area are not that great with seafood. But the Pilot House has probably the best crabcakes I have eaten outside of the eastern shores of Maryland. We stopped here back in Oct 2007 on our way to Myrtle Beach SC. I'm happy we did, for years I have always wanted to eat here but never did. Now I have another delightful place to go in Wilmington. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food they serve. We had excellent service and food - this is a 'I'm definately going to return" type of place. more

The Pilot House--an incredible experience. 3/3/2008

The Pilot House is located in the waterfront section of Wilmington, NC on the beautiful Cape Fear River. The food is elegant, low county fare offered in an unpretentious, rustic setting. For appetizers we ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms, which were "to die for". At lunch, we sampled the fried green tomato and goat cheese salad, the shrimp salad, the grilled salmon club, and the Pilot House crabcake. Each entree was beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed. The salads were fresh, plentiful, and came with excellent choices of dressings. The salmon club was wonderful on honey wheat bread. Finally, the crabcake was delicately seasoned and perfectly prepared. All four in our party would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely come back when we visit the area again. more

Think Before You Go 9/14/2007

Location is nice but I was very dissapointed in the setting and the portion of food served for the price. I got the seafood platter which included 3 shrimp, 3 oysters, 2 scallops, slaw (which was the biggest portion) and a palm size piece of fish for $20. The food was like any other fried seafood location I have eaten at in the area. The service was good when we arrived for the first 15 minutes and then the waitress got a big table and we hardly saw her again after that. My wife and I went there for our anniversary expecting a romantic setting from reading the reviews and it was nothing much more than maybe one step above the Dockside in Wrightsville Beach. The chairs were not comfortable. They were like a metal patio chair with a very low back and tables had cheap plastic table covering. The mens bathroom sink had a stopped up drain and the sink was full with water all over the floor. This was on a Saturday evening so you would think they would try to clean that up before the crowd arrived. This restaurant is no where near the quality of food, service and atmosphere that you would get at Ruth's Chris Steak House. I do not think we will be visiting there again in the near future. Pros: On the river Cons: Parking, especially on the weekends. more
