disappointing 1/21/2012

I was so looking forward to use the gift card I got from my friends for the massage. The experience was terrible. The place is not relaxing and calming at all. It feels like a dentist room: cold and too white. No candles, no atmosphere, and the massage was not good! Felt very amateur, not relaxing, very technical and at a times was even painful. My impression was that she did not know what she was doing.I go to massages once a month at least. I would not go back there again more

Great Experience 8/19/2010

I had a great experience at Bliss 57. I booked a massage while in town due to terrible sciatica cause by a herniated disc. The therapist did everything possible to make sure I was comfortable and that I had a positive experience. The massage itself provided great relief and made my trip to NYC much more comfortable. Thank you Bliss57!! more

Best Bikini Wax ever 10/15/2009

I just got a Brazilian from Zoya and it's the best I've ever had - much less pain than at other places I've been and a very thorough job. I will definitely be going back! Pros: less pain than most, very clean job more

Zoya, my queen 5/28/2009

Not only was this the least painful wax i've ever gotten but lovely, wonderful Zoya is my new favorite person ever!!! She was so sweet and amazing at her job. She talked to me about her life and her family which distracted me from the inevitable. And she listened to me too. It was like a 2 for 1/ therapy-spa experience. Zoya, you are a great woman, i actually look forward to seeing you again. Its nice to not dread the next appointment . I'd give it 5 stars but lets get serious, it is still waxing!! Pros: Least painful wax ever Cons: Its a bit more expensive then the average wax more

Not worth the money! Not thorough 12/4/2008

When a place charges $70 for a brazilian wax, I expect not only a completely thorough job like I normally get for $30 at Natura Spa in Astoria (ask for Ieda!), but added luxury thrown in. I was sorely disappointed. The "waiting room" contains one big round seat for everyone to share surrounded by all of Bliss's products...hardly a relaxing spa atmosphere. I was not offered anything to eat or drink. My appointment was at 5:15, but I was not taken until 5:20, which would've been fine if they did not follow a strict 30 minute-time limit for each wax-my wax was over at 5:45. I don't know if all the rooms have the same set-up, but the bed on which I was supposed to lie with no clothes on from the waist down was directly in front of the door which faced a long hallway, which meant that anyone who happened to be walking down it when the door was opened would see me! Really poor layout. I'll have to admit that the wax was the least painful I have ever had because of the different type of wax they use, except Margarita, the woman working on me, informed me that I had some hairs that were too short and that I could go home and tweeze then later MYSELF. Excuse me?! I told her in so many words that for $70, I'd better leave there completely hairless, not with stray hairs. She then launched into some ridiculous explanation of why she doesn't really tweeze. When she was finished, she asked me to look and said she'd tweeze some, but made ME inspect it and point out hairs to her, which is her job, especially since I can't see underneath or behind. Most people would probably be satisfied with the results, but if you're someone who wants a completely thorough job, don't waste your time or money. There's nothing special about this place at all and they don't care about you as a client. more

not a good place to relax 11/20/2008

I went in for a facial, which costs $200 and had a lot of treatments inlcuded (my first time there). Much like all the other users on citysearch, I was pressured into changing an included treatment to the one which was "suited more toward my skin type". I was a little sceptical about it, but I was told that I don't get facials often so it would be better for me. I took it and was charged extra even though it was a substitution treatment. The process itself was fine but deep cleansing left red spots on my face, and some of them turned into acne b/c it was not properly cleaned out. My facial included a treatment for hair. When the facial was finished, I was told to go and rinse my hair in the shower but do not wet the face until night. Now, maybe it's me, but how is it possible to wash the hair without wetting the face if using a regular shower? I couldn't rinse it properly, wet my face and had to wash my hair several times until the smell was gone. BTW, their product smell really bad. Then I had a pedicure and guess what? I was told that my feet really need additional treatment (extra charge!). The nail saloon in my area (much cheaper) never told me that, never asked questions and yet made my feet look much better than bliss57 did that day. Even nailcolor was done with poor quality. Pros: better than nothing Cons: overpriced, sell-off, poor nail salon equipment, not relaxing more

Always get the best at Bliss 57 11/8/2008

I've always had a good experience at the Bliss 57 location. I have my favorite techs but I'm sure they are all very good. The staff at the counter is always very nice and the complementary bottle of water you get upon check in is a nice touch too. I always book my manicures and pedicures through Svetlana as they last for weeks, she's amazing and I actually was lucky enough to find my bikini waxer for life. Book with Sasha for Brazilian waxes, the procedure is of course not painless as they claim, but it was the least painful brazilian I have ever had (and I've been to all the top salons in the city that claim they have the best reputation for bikini waxes). The rooms are very nice and Sasha did an excellent job in making me feel comfortable, I have very very sensitive skin and my redness was virtually gone about 10 minutes after the wax. I will only be going back to Bliss for my Brazilians! Pros: Beautiful facility, clean, nice staff. Cons: Expenisve more

should have gone back. 10/30/2008

One of the nicest experiences I've had at a spa. Services were great, people were awesome. So glad I found citysearch so people can get the appreciation they deserve. Pros: Punctual Cons: none more

great customer service! 10/21/2008

Finding a quality spa in NYC is harded than I thought. I have gone to this location twice now, and already have my next appointment booked. I am very particular about my facials, especially the extraction part...I like them to be very thorough. Zoya is fabulous at that! Although I feel like I'm going to cry because she spends so much time on extractions, it is completely worth it. I don't have a single clogged pore left on my face! I went to see her a second time and there was some mix up with my checkin (they thought I never showed up) and ended up waiting 30 min past my appt time. When checking out, the guy up front asked if I would like to pick out a free product for the inconvinience. I thought that was fabulous customer service, and went home with a huge jar full of body scrub! Definitely recommend Bliss! more

Disastrous 8/18/2008

Be very careful when attending this spa, which is very over-rated (facilities are not very good) and service is terrible. Be also wary of the fact that these people don't really prescribe to what is advertised on their so-called "Bliss Menu". As an example, I visited this location after having purchased a gift receipt for a 105-minute "Blissage" -- which really turned out to be a ~85-90-minute session of a very poor and unsatisfying-quality. When I complained at the end of the massage, the staff at the front desk explained that the session includes 15-minutes of added buffer time (for I don't know what) and the masseusse felt she performed what would ordinarily be given over the course of a 105-minute period (despite the front desk staff acknowledging that my session was likely to have been cut short). In fairness to the front desk staff, the manager did come out and apologize by offering some of their products -- which I did not take. All-in-all, this might seem picky but my feeling is that for the prices this spa charges (price of a 105-minute "Blissage" is $210), my feeling is that they should deliver on exactly what they advertise. I understand from my wife that the Bliss Spa's are generally regarded as one of the best chains in the city - which I don't doubt. I do suggest, however, being wary of this particular spa (or perhaps the specific masseusse) as this was clearly not a very enjoyable experience (I think I left doubly tense than when I went in). NB - My masseusse's name was "Donatella" (sp?) for those planning on coming to this location in the near-term. I would recommend that you either ask for another masseusse or instruct her to be firmer if you prefer a deeper tissue massage. Cons: Very misleading. Not a real, "Bliss Spa" (especially for the $ they charge) more

The worst experience in my life 6/21/2008

This was my first time at a Bliss and I will never return. I went on a friend's recommendation and booked a service for a waxing. I arrived a little earlier just to have so relaxation time and check out this "awesome lounge" with "great food" the reservations person boasted about when I booked my appointment. When I arrived early, the reception staff acted as though I had committed the most heinous sin. Maybe because the lounge and food I was so excited about was a couch and a piece of orange cheese, dried cucumbers, and dried olives. Yum! Then my waxer came in and whisked me off into the room - she never even introduced herself - (I later found out her name was ELLA - she is the devil) Ella essentially tried to talk me out of the procedure, acted like it was her first waxing, AND DECIDED NOT TO FINISH THE PROCEDURE BECAUSE SHE WAS FINISHED -----I WAS HALF WAXED!!!!!!!!!! This whole experience was unbelievable - and I would only recommend going there if you want to have a horrible time. Pros: none! Cons: everything about this place is a con!!!! more

Painless Eyebrow Waxing! 5/22/2008

Zola at Bliss 57 took my overplucked, misshapen excuses for eyebrows and turned them into beautiful brows that I actually get compliments on! Painless and professional, I will be coming back forever! Pros: Painless, professional, clean Cons: None more

Decent facial 5/22/2008

The facial I received was decent, but I didn't appreciate the upsell. If I wanted extra seaweed or oxygen, etc, I would have booked those treatments to begin with. The aesthetician didn't appear to be overly thrilled to be there either - so much for customer service. Good location but too crowded. Pros: decent facial Cons: atmosphere, upsell more

I went to Bliss 57 for a facial and was thoroughly disappointed!! 11/12/2007

The sauna and steam rooms didn't work (they said this was temporary but I don't think it is). The facial was supposed to be $100. The therapist was asking me whether I wanted a seaweed mask and 'oxygen'- I just assumed they came with the facial and said sure (maybe I'm just very naive). They ended up costing an extra $100!! Plus it only took her about 10mins to do both! I also found some diamond earrings in my locker - I was the first to use the locker (my appointment was at 9am) and when I brought them to the front desk, the lady said, "oh these must be the earrings that lady was talking about". They hadn't even bothered to search the lockers for them! I didn't find the girls at the front desk very friendly and the girl beside me was complaining about her treatment when she was checking out too. None of the customers seemed happy. more

Ruined by sales pressure. 10/4/2007

I went in for a basic facial, which costs $100 and is an hour long. Much like all the other users on citysearch, I no sooner sat down when I was pressured into upgrading to the seaweed facial which was "suited more toward my skin type". I asked how it would work for my skin type and wasn't offered much of an explanation except that I don't get facials often so it would be better for me. Then I asked how much it was- it's $185 dollars. I stuck with the basic one and she backed off. It was fine but mostly involved the woman out of the room while whatever she put on my face soaked in. Then at the end I was pressured to buy two products costing over $100 which the facialist left at the front desk for me so that it would be awkward to say no. I did anyway and will return to going to Oasis which never tries to upsell or pressure you into buying anything. Also the sauna and steamroom were out of order at the 57th St. location which was really dissapointing. A spa treatment is supposed to be relaxing and this was just too much hassle. Pros: nice products Cons: sales pressure, no sauna, no steamroom, uncaring front desk more

Cold, rushed service 8/17/2007

My facial at Bliss felt cold and sterile. I felt rushed and the woman talked through the entire thing. Will not be back Pros: Near fun shopping Cons: Rushed, factory more

Bad Bliss. 7/5/2007

Awful experience. I came in for a bikini wax and the technician performed a brazilian one due to a mistake at the front counter. The technician made no apologies about her painful mistake, and worse she kept pressuring me to finish the job she started. The technician was rude and made the situation very uncomfortable. After living in NYC for 15 years, I would not opt to go back to Bliss. more

Not impressed 5/20/2007

I've had two facials at Bliss 57. The first facial was a wonderful relaxing experience, however, they were a little pushy on adding more services. The second facial was far from relaxing, hastily and half-fast done, and the sales pitch was extremely forceful. Products that were expensive and not the best pick for my finicky face was being pushed just because they were the most expensive services and the most expensive products. I was not impressed. Pros: clean Cons: huge pressue to buy more services and products more

Great waxing! 5/18/2007

I usually go to Bliss 49 only because it's closer to my apt. but I love it there! I get the Brazilian bikini wax every time I go and it's practically painless! They use the best wax, and I hardly EVER get any ingrown hairs. ( The ingrown hair pads work wonders)I have sensitive skin but their wax never irritates me, and the skilled staff is patient and friendly. I rarely get the same person twice and I've never had a bad experience! I recently tried going to a different spa and they made me bruise! The ONLY downside is that it's really expensive, but you get what you pay for in this world! As far as the staff trying to sell you stuff, if you don't want anything, just say no! I would highly recommend this spa for waxing! And just so you know that I don't work for them, I hated the massage I got there! Way over priced and not relaxing! Pros: Skilled staff, relaxing and private room, great waxing- practically painless! Cons: very expensive... $70 for Brazilian wax more

Do Not Get a Bikini Wax At Bliss! 5/11/2007

Do not get a bikini wax at Bliss Spa! I?ve had two bad experiences with this chain. I'm sure you're wondering, "why did you go back a 2nd time, if you had a bad experience the 1st time?"...but I tried to give Bliss the benefit of the doubt. My first experience was at Bliss 57; my second experience was at Bliss 49. In both instances, I was up-sold while getting a Bikini Wax. Imagine it, you are on the table--completely naked--in a vulnerable position--and you are up-sold from a basic bikini wax to a brazilian bikini wax! A $30 price difference! Clearly this is standard practice at Bliss, since it happen at two different locations, and with two different technicians. There are plenty of other places in the city you can get this service without the sales pitch. Pros: location Cons: Sterile environment, up-selling more

  • Enter the shimmering LVMH building on 57th Street, get a special pass from security, then zoom up to the sister spa to Marcia Kilgore's outrageously popular Soho beauty mecca. This one is smaller, but with a more high-tech look: ultra-suede walls in the waiting room, a definite high-rise feel and stunning views. The crowd is more Upper East Side mavens and midtown execs than Soho scenesters--and splurging tourists, of course. It's one of the most expensive spas in the city, so who knows who you'll find sipping white wine in the waiting room.

    The Services
Many of the signature Bliss services have made it north of 14th Street: numerous facials, countless peel/mask/oxygen add-ons, microdermabrasion, cellulite blasters, body massages, the Lemon Peel body scrub and waxing (using the pretty painless Poetic wax). There is a wet room, so body treatments like the "Ginger Rub" and "Mineral Rub" are available.
