Authentic Mexican Cuisine 4/8/2009

I eat at Petra at least two times a week and think it is some of the most authentic Mexican food you can get in Dallas/Fort Worth. My favorite is the Guajillo Chicken Tacos and the Quesadilla Nortena. Beto is the owner and chef and is a great guy. Pros: Unique and Flavorful more

Great food to-go 3/4/2009

I had a very busy Friday, as many of you can relate, with no time to waste. So, I grabbed some Petra to-go with full intention of eating when I got back to the office. Two hours later, I found myself reheating the carnitas and lime rice. It held up wonderfully and so did the chips! It made my day! more

This food is for REAL! It's not drowned in butter and cheese like Tex-Mex! 1/25/2009

Wow! I never thought that Mexican food could be sooooo tasty! This food is for REAL! It's not drowned in butter and cheese like Tex-Mex! It is authentic, fresh and their beef tacos are made from STEAK! The crowning touch is their tomatillo salsa and fish tacos! Add a tasty frozen margarita with a sangria swirl and you are in Heaven! Add in that Petra is a fast-casual concept, has a friendly staff, a patio and is ideal for groups and we've got a winner here! Definitely the best Mexican food in town and worth your time to try it out. Pros: great service, price and more

Love this restaurant! 1/20/2009

this mexican restaurant in Frisco is set up like a peiwei, you order at the counter and then they table serve you your mexican food and endless FREEchips and salsa. The food style is like the mexico street tacos, but more. The owner I found out was a executive chef for Brinker in his days, then decisided to branch out on his own, so as a result you have all of the technology and consistancy of a big company in a privatly owned mexican restaurant. Really a must try! They have a large place so it is great for gorups of up to 50 without notice. if you are looking for a great price for upscale mexican cuisine with no frills service in frisco, this is it. Pros: great service, price and quality more

Not your usual Tex-Mex! This is Authentic Mexican Food at it's BEST! 1/16/2009

I happened upon Petra @ lunch time today. I had a mexican food craving that had to be satisfied! What a find! I was surprised when I walked in and the restaurant was fast-casual and had such an inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. They guided me through the menu and made suggestions to help me make an educated decision my first time in. I chose the Sampler plate with three tacos. I had a beef tenderloin taco(very tender), tacos al pastor(gently cooked pork tenderloin with their signature guajillo sauce and pineapple) and a fish taco(the best I have ever had! It had a cilanto-pesto, other sauces and mexican slaw on top! What Flavor!). For a side item I chose a refreshingly tasty serrano-lime rice. After they delivered the chips and two salsas- one being a tomatillo-I gave in and ordered a Sangria-Swirl margarita! Let's just say that I am relaxed and ready for the weekend! I will definately go back and I recommend that anyone who loves great taste, does too! Pros: Unique, tasty, fresh food served in a nice atmosphere more

The best mexican food in Frisco! 1/15/2009

I am THE mexican food lover for a reason. I love love tacos! I went to petra the other day in frisco and these were the best street tacos I have had in Texas! The choices of meats were traditional but the flavors gourmet with a hint of pineapple in the pastor , and a spice in the guajillo sauce was amazing. If ou are looking for authentic mexican food in frisco or even in Mckinney ( they have one there too) give them a try. Tell them the mexican resturant lover sent you from Citysearch and they will give you free queso! PS Great Margaritas too! Pros: real tequila and tacos! more

Our New Favorite Mexican Food 1/4/2009

My dh and 2 kids tried Petra in Frisco last night. We were very impressed. Service is like Pei Wei, order at counter, then wait at your table for your food, only friendlier. The employees seemed truly happy we were there. Chips and salsa are brought to your table and did not disappoint. You get 2 kinds of salsa, one green and very flavorful, but not spicy and one red, again very flavorful, but with more of a spicy kick. Both tasted very fresh. Entrees come with 3 or 4 small, warm flour tortillas and your choice of charro beans OR 2 choices of rice. My dh and I both had the lime serrano rice and found it fresh and flavorful. My husband loved his pork entree with a New Mexican red chile sauce and I loved my sauteed chicken dish with mushrooms, onions, spinach, garlic, and tomatoes. Both entrees were full of flavor and very fresh tasting, NOT smothered with cheese like Tex-Mex. Margaritas are available and several bottled Mexican beers (2 on tap) and the usual American beers. We can't wait to go back. Try it, you'll be happy. more
