Pete's Petland

Like many of you have already stated, this place should not be in business. I went into the store a few days ago to just purchase a toy for my dog. I have never been in the store before and was shocked at what I saw when I walked in. The place was dirty, disorganized, smelled of feces and quite frankly was disgusting. I have never in my life been to a pet store that was in this condition before. Aside from the dirty floors and shelves, one of the two workers was sitting on the floor while the other just stood there. They never said hello or asked if I needed anything. Great customer service. As I glanced around for toys I heard cries coming from the back. I walked to the back and saw something I never want to see again. It is always sad to see animals in cages but these poor animals were sitting in their tiny cages that were filled with feces, no water and you could tell most if not all were very unhealthy. I heard two of them coughing and wheezing and making noises that no healthy dog would make. I could only stand to view this for about 30 seconds and then I had to leave the store. more

What are these people doing to these dogs?????? I walked in this store early on a Saturday morning. No sound at all in the store, except for one dog ""in the back"" crying. Mr. Farmer owner goes in the back, comes back out and says, ""There, that should do it, it's too early for that"". What exactly did he do back there? I then proceeded to walk to the glass wallled cages with their little signs that say, ""don't tap on glass"". So, I started tapping on all the cages and not one dog woke up. Hmm..puppies in the cages who looked underfed, stools in some of the cages, mangled hair, etc. That seems pretty odd to me that not ONE puppy woke up with all my tapping on the glass. Now that's just the owners of this horrible place. Everyone knows these dogs are from puppy mills. It's the year 2010 people, these puppies are for profit only. I don't care how long someone has been in business, that just shows how long they have gotten away with it. They are lying to you when they tell you these dogs come from reputable breeders. Be a hero, save a life, adopt don't shop! Cons: sick and dying dogs more

I just would like to say I have just purchesed my 4th dog from this store !!! I have wonderful memories from years ago with my parents bringing me to the store, now decades later here I am w/ my own children, purchasing a puppy!!! I have seen tons of pet stores open, close, and sell. I believe you must really love, and appreciate what you do in order to be sucessful which is what Pete has done !!! 40 + years how else could you !! Kudo's to every one at Petes Petland. I bought a puppy from Pete's Petland on 1/6/07. The puppy was constantly sick from the time we got it, he was in the vet more than we had him. At four months old, I had a labrador retriever which should have weighed approximately 40 pounds, but my dog was so sick he only weighed 14 pounds. Finally since the puppy kept relapsing and not getting better the vet decided to do exploratory surgery. Once they opened him up the found out that the puppy's stomach was deformed and his lungs were completely diseased. They determined that the puppy would never get better and at 4 months of age the puppy had to be put to sleep. I did end up getting my money back for the dog from the pet store, but only after putting up with the same rudeness I had dealt with since I notified them that the puppy was sick. How can you be rude to someone who's puppy (that you sold them) just died?? Even though I was reimbursed for the dog itself I am still out all of the vet bills, which are substantial. Since then I bought a new puppy from a reputable breeder, a HEALTHY puppy!!! Clearly, I should have just gone to a reputable breeder in the first place, but I learned the hard way and I will never buy an animal from a pet store again!! Cons: sick dogs more
