I have been using this salon for over 20 years, and feel that it is consistently topnotch. The staff is caring, polite, and very service-oriented, and the money is well worth it. Since I have gone here for so long, my daugthers have also grown up to adulthood at Peter Thomas. I am new to living in Berkeley and looking for a new stylist. I would like to find an affordable stylist. I like to find a new stylist with lower prices and stay with her -- for years, until she gets to the high end. I am poor. . not cheap. I like good haircuts -- who doesn't? But it is hard to pay $90 for one. . . Peter Thomas has a decent reputation, although not as good as it used to have. They train stylists. Becca has been licensed for a couple years but she still has to constantly offer half price deals on craigslist . . if she did good work, after two years as a stylist, she would have a full appointment book and not have to keep begging for new customers at half price on craigslist, right? read yelp . . go all the way back . . . there are negative reviews for her going back the whole time she worked. . . recently, after I posted a negative review, she got a bunch of friends to post phony positive reviews and she flagged my negative one. okay . . she can do that. . . but ask yourself why the salon keeps her on? If you look all the way back, there were yelp customers who described virtually the same nightmare that happened to me. . . Becca messes up a customer's hair and then she keeps cutting it off, going shorter and shorter . . . I guess she is a nut job? she gets nervous and forgets that it is a real person, not a dummy fake head of hair? the world is full of cheap haircuts . . . why go to Peter Thomas and Becca when there are plenty of other places to go? the salon has had to refund her cuts . . when I called to complain the manager said ""you don't have to tell me your name for me to know who to write out the refund to because I know who you are, because I saw how bad your hair looked when you left' . . . so the salon manager KNEW Becca had ruined my hair and he let me pay . . . also, when I went back to get the damage sliglhtly mitigated (she took off so much hair that you couldn't really repair what she had done. . the manager had a crew cut and he said that my hair in the back was as short as his and I had asked for a chin-length bob). . .the manager knew what she did, he saw her ruining my hair while she cut it . .. he told me so when I went back . . . I totally hate this salon and the service that I got. I went to this salon a while ago and I was looking for a good job in my hair color but when I got there I had to wait for 15 to 20 minutes for my service and when the stylist did my hair, she was a senior stylist, forgot her name, she just color my hair like a 3 years old color a piece of paper. Besides of my hair she color my ears, almost my entire forehead and did not even clean after finish. So my scalp started to burn and what she did was to put some oil and offer me water. What a water can do for my scalp? Even after the oil my scalp was still burning. So after my entire process I got to home and felt some burning still in my scalp and I just figured out that my scalp was hurt and have pus, so I called back the next day and I just listened this all b$#@#@ saying that is sooooo normal and I should not be concern. C'mom, since when you get some color and expect some b l o o d after? That shows that the stylist is not professional enough and doesn't know how to color. So after to talk and complaint , I asked for my money back and they were concerned that she will not get paid, this is not my problem is her problem that she did not do a good job. They were more concern about the money from the stylist then the client. Can you believe? So they ask me to come back to prove and of course I went there to prove to them , they did not have a word because what they saw was true and they didn't even said sorry. No apologies at all! Got my money back and never will be back. I jut got my scalp back to normal after 3 weeks! Bad costumer service and horrible service! Never more!!! I am sure I can find better professionals than this messy place. Even though this happened to me a while ago I fell like I should warn everyone before they decided to go to this salon. I called for an appointment and was randomly assigned to Edwin. He did an amazing job with my hair.\r I am always nervous about overambitious layers, but he made my hair move and have a beautiful shape. He listens to what I want and doesn't overdo anything. Fantastic!\r I always try to get a cut before a big evening because he does a great job with post cut styling. Pros: Edwin Cons: i've only gone to one stylist, so i can't say more

This is a warning to all ladies with beautiful hair!! I CRIED after getting my hair cut at Peter Thomas Hair Design. I have never had such a BAD haircut. The stylist completely butchered my hair. She had no vision, no style. Not only did she give me a bad cut, but she did a terrible job styling it. It looked messy and strangled. I do a better job myself and I don't have a license. \r \r The salon is tiny and cramped and outdated. Definately not a place to go if you want to make youself beautiful and feel relaxed. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone and I will never go back! \r Cons: No parking, no class, terrible service more

I have tried for years to put layers into my long straight hair without having it look choppy. I've been to Jennifer Aniston's hair stylist, Penelope Cruz's etc... but no one except Peter Thomas was able to make it look great. Peter was patient and professional. He listened, and then did exactly what I asked for (not too much length taken but add some soft layers). He really is an artist, and a gentleman. more

I got a haircut from Edwin and he gave me a great cut. I have asian hair that doesn't do anything but lay flat. He managed to give me a cut that created body and a slight wave! It's been growing out really well. I still get compliments from it even though it's been 4 months! I recommend Edwin for a haircut. He's amazing...
