I will NEVER shop at this store again.\r \r When I first moved to Lawrence I thought this store was great. But lately the customer service has been horrible! Everyone who works there has been rude and unwilling to help. I have actually had someone tell me that they would NOT help me get a fish from the tank for my 7 year old daughter; and then she just walked away. I have tried and tried to give this store a chance but I won't shop here again.\r \r Added to that, my daughter had a horrible interview with a manager named Gabe here back in March. She had to wait over an hour for him even though she was there on time. Once they got into his "office" he flat out told her "Look, I'm sorry but I can't hire you. I require certain things from the women I hire here and you don't have them." Obviously my daughter was outraged because he hadn't asked her any questions or even looked at her resume. she asked what those were and his simple said "You aren't skinny, you aren't as tall as I am, and you ar more

A few months later my niece had the same exact experience here! Completely mad, I called the store to complain but Gabe hung up on me. And continued to do so until I gave up. Also, the dog training is pathetic. I thought I would try out the training for a newly adopted dog of ours who I was having trouble train. These classes did nothing to help my poor dog; THEY MADE IT WORSE. The handler was abusive and cruel. I spent $99 on this class for 6 weeks. After 3 weeks I couldn't take it anymore and dropped the class, demanding a refund. Of course, they would NOT give it to me. If you are looking to get your dog trained go to Cottonwood Animal Hospital in Ottawa (just 30 minutes south of Lawrence). The class is $30 cheaper and a week longer. Your dog gets to be around other dogs and the trainer has over 25 years of experience. She was able to help us take my now abused dog and teach her to behave and love life with a rewards base training. NEVER SHOP HERE and please don't go here for an interview and don't have your dog trained here. more

We have recently adopted a new dog. In the last few weeks I have made many trips to PetCo. My experiences with them have been wonderful. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. I will continue to give them my business for the entire lives of our animals! Pros: Helpful Staff more

I get a bad vibe when i go into Petco, but they do have a lot of interesting pet supplies. I did ask when a particular species of fish was to be restocked and i had check back several times and it was never there. The staff is very unknowledgeable, but when they have sales on pet food I make sure I stock up. PROS: sales, selection CONS: staff more

It was a while ago, but about 3 years ago I witnessed a staff member very roughly handling a baby ferret and none of her co-workers seemed concerned by this. Also, I bought 3 fancy mice from there and they all died within a month. This is after we bought a fancy mouse from Pet World and that one lasted 2 years before it got sick and died! I would NEVER recommend buying any live pet from them. The only good thing about them is their prices are very low. But the staff all seem indifferent and usually don't know much about animals or anything so I don't ask them for advice anymore. Also, they staff isn't very attentive. I walked around trying to find something and I passed 2 staff members and not one offered to help me. Bottom Line: Very cold atmosphere=sad and unhealthy animals. PetCo is one of the few pet stores in the Lawrence area. PetCo has food and supplies for fish, dog, cats, guinea pigs, pigs, ferrets, and birds. You however can only buy fish, guinea pigs, ferrets, lizards, and mice. On some weekends you can adopt a dog through some agencies. PetCo has a loyalty card that helps you save on certain items and keeps track of what you buy so you get coupons. more
