A good experience 9/5/2011

My experiences with Dr. Kiran are always cordial and relaxed. She seems to be very focused on the task at hand, and time spent in the chair is minimal. I know other places/dentists that will leave you waiting in the chair for xrays, or whatever, but that has not been my experience with Dr. Kiran. more

A good experience 9/5/2011

I don't really like going to the dentist - who does? But my experience with Dr Kiran was pleasant, and the work was done quickly and without any undue discomfort. more

Polite and respectful 8/30/2011

I had to get a double extraction in November 2010 (wisdom tooth and a molar). Dr. Kiran saw me within 15 minutes of my arrival. The procedure itself was done quickly as I was in pain from the wisdom tooth coming down at a bizarre angle. She was very polite and respectful. more

Questionable billing practices & unnecessary services 2/27/2011

Dr. Kiran is fine. She's not the most personable dentist, but she's competent. The hygienists range from okay to really good. My main problem with this office -- and the reason I won't be going back -- is their billing system and their insistence on selling me unnecessary services. Supposedly they check with my insurance before I have any work done, and give me a quote for my portion. I pay my portion upfront, yet end up receiving invoices for additional amounts months later. This last time, I received a hefty bill about 2 months after my visit. After checking with my insurance company and realizing that they never agreed to cover the work in the first place, I paid the balance on the invoice they sent me and vowed to be more cautious in my future dealings with them. As it turns out, some of the work the dentist told me was necessary ended up being non-routine and unnecessary according to the insurance company. For instance, they charged me $60 for a ""fluoride treatment"" that they insisted I needed. Not knowing what the treatment was, I agreed to it. It turned out to be a bottle of flouride rinse that I could have bought at the drugstore for about half that price. But it gets worse. Two months after paying the unexpected invoice (four months after the work was done), I received an overdue/collections notice for an additional amount. This was the first time I had heard of it. I had paid my balance in full two months earlier, or so I thought. There was no explanation of what this additional amount was for, just ""your account is overdue. Pay it immediately or we'll send it to collections."" I'm still trying to hash it all out with my insurance company and their office. I've now ended up paying out of pocket more than twice the amount they initially quoted me, despite my having (supposedly) good insurance. Don't trust them when they quote you a price upfront. Check with your insurance company first. Or better yet, go to a dentist that isn't so shady. more

Worst dental experiences ever!!! 10/1/2008

I used Mr Belfon for nearly 3 years and I believe myself to be an extremely patient on understanding person. I have 3 children in which all have seen him and have hence been to his office many times. At first, the only issue I had with his office was that the wait was extremely long, even if I arrived 30 before my appointment time, the wait was a minunum of 2 hours, I have actually waited for over 4 hours at one time to find out that my child appliance didn?t fit or was ?missing? again (this has happened over 5 times). My children and I have overheard Mr. Belfon speak rudely to patients as well as constantly degrading his office staff. In my experience I have actually had to wait over 5 months for a credit to my account for an overcharge of one of my childrens procedures, bottom line, if you are looking for a new dentist, don't pick this one! Pros: has a cute play area for kids Cons: everything else besides play area is a con... more

Avoid Dr. Kiran if you have any dental anxiety or like to have good communication with your dentist. 9/13/2006

I was among Dr. Kiran's first patients when she came to dental practice at Perfect Teeth in Albuquerque, not too long after she was first out of dental school. Back then she was pleasant and took time to clearly explain any dental procedure she felt I needed, and also understood and worked with my severe dental anxiety. Now, about 5 years later, her chairside manner has taken a turn for the worse. Although always calm and impersonal, she has become very impatient with patients asking questions, and has no patience for patients with dental anxiety. When I needed a root canal and crown for a front tooth, this was a first experience for me, so I asked about the procedures involved, and the best I could get from her was a quick explanation that took about 30 seconds. After that, she had no patience to stay and answer in more detail, leaving it to a dental assistant. This has now happened to me twice with Dr. Kiran. In the past year, each visit to her has left me feeling like I was intruding on her precious time, and on two occasions, I left her office in tears because of the frustration of trying to get clear answers to procedural questions, or of trying to get her to understand and have some empathy for my dental anxiety. Since I became disabled, it takes me a few minutes longer to get in/out of the dental chair, and my dental anxiety is always obvious. On my visit to her just this morning, it turned out that I again needed a root canal and crown on the other front tooth, but she was doing different things than the previous time I'd had this done. I tried to ask questions about it, but she became impatient and lectured me and my husband, telling us that my disability and anxiety was my problem, not theirs (the clinic). She even noted to us that she had a foot injury a few days earlier but was here working, so we all have problems. True as that is, if she makes the decision to come work on patients, she needs to act as a professional. I do NOT recommend her Pros: She has an excellent staff that seems to work hard to overcome Dr. Kiran's lack of patient empathy. Cons: Dr. Kiran has no empathy for patient concerns or anxiety, and is too impatient to have good dialogue with her patients. more
