I had a lunch date with a great guy (my husband :); he'd heard about this place from some friends who love Mexican food as much we do. We went around 1.15 on a Wednesday; thankful...

We checked this place out tonight after 12/14/2011

We checked this place out tonight after just reading the other reviews here and it was definitely some of the best local Mexican food and excellent Margaritas we've had since moving here from TX. Great service, great food and drinks, and the kids had fun too more

Great food, great service - made lunch date even better 8/31/2011

I had a lunch date with a great guy (my husband :); he'd heard about this place from some friends who love Mexican food as much we do. We went around 1.15 on a Wednesday; thankfully, the lunch crowd had cleared out and only 2 or 3 of the 6 tables were in use. To start with, the service is great. The staff welcomes you graciously and is quick to get chips & drinks. The chips were OK - I need to salt them - but the two salsas that came with were fabulous. I like my salsas chunky & hot, my husband likes his smooth & mild; we got a little bowl of each, without even asking. I had a ""Sunburn"" (Suava, triple sec & cranberry juice), which was delicious. I ordered a small ($6), and it was the size of most medium to large margaritas at other Mexican restaurants. We couldn't decide on what to order, so we opted to share, ordering two fajitas ($9.99) - one pork, one steak - and a taco salad with grilled chicken. The waiter asked if we'd be splitting and brought us two plates to go with our salad. We dug into the salad and were pleasantly surprised - the chicken strips were tender and juicy, and the bottom of the taco bowl was smeared with fabulous refried beans. I don't like guac with onions, so they brought a dish full of the fixings - pico de gallo, guac, sour cream and shredded Mexican cheese. This was nice, as we could ""dress"" our salad. My husband said the taco bowl was a bit too heavy on the grease and didn't eat more than a bite. The waiter came to our table to refill water and, seeing that we were mostly through with the salad, asked if we were ready for fajitas. They came about 5 minutes later, sizzling and beautiful. The steak was cooked to perfection - not too done, not too rare - and the carnitas.... oh the carnitas. We also got our own plates of fixings - a bowl of delicious pinto beans, yummy rice, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and cheese. The corn tortillas were also perfectly steamed, not pan-fried and left to dry. We walked out of the restaurant with two boxes of food, a bill of less than $35 - and stupid grins. Best date lunch I've had, & we're planning for many more in months to come. more

Great food, decent prices 8/11/2011

Hidden Gem 7/4/2011

My favorite Mexican style Restaurant! Service there has always been very welcoming an timely considering they are often very busy. The margaritas are perfect with lots of great flavors, the chile relleno is the best I have ever had and I love the vegetable medley they use in their fajitas! Highly recommended more

Great service, okay food 5/29/2011

The service is quite good. The server was very enthusiastic. I wasn't so impressed by the food... we ordered a chicken burrito, which turned out to be slightly sweetish. I liked their shrimp curry like dish... it was spicy as they mentioned in the menu. The portions are big, but the pricing is more than what I thought it would be ($14 for any of their burrito/shrimp entree) Their free chips were okay, but the salsas made it taste good. I am inclined to give it 3.5 stars. more

Best Mexican food in PDX 10/13/2010

The Tacos here are phenomenal! Traditional mexican food. The salsa's (two types) are both excellent. Food has flavor and spice. Authentic, delicious mexican food. The staff is friendly, the chips are fresh. My wife is a huge fan of the Relleno's (best she has had). The tamales have a great flavor. Try the green sauce! more

Best stumble upon, maybe ever 4/30/2010

We were just driving by and decided to go here. Had to circle a couple of times for a parking space - but it is worth it. They were full so the staff member offered to call us on our cell when a table was ready. Which was not too long of a wait. The food was great, the drinks were more than proper, but best of all was the staff. Very friendly and sincere, custom making our salsa (just a little hotter than for the kids). I will definitely go again and strongly recommend Pepper's. Pros: Great Service and Food! Cons: Small dining area more

Delicious Margaritas 8/27/2009

This place had wonderful food and drinks. We had excellent service. Its too bad it is kind of over shadowed by all the other little stores around. This place is definitely the place to go to get good mexican food. Pros: Great food and staff Cons: Location, it is kind of hidden amongst main street chaos more

Surprisingly fresh, hot and tasty with great service and atmosphere! 1/20/2008

More than one staff member greated our party sincerely. We were seated right away and given specials and recommendations politely. The margaritas are perfect, with a large selection of flavors to choose from. Hot chips and salsa were replenished frequently and all of our dinners came out quickly. The flautas were awesome! Spanish Karaoke added to the authentic atmosphere. Definitely highly recommended! more

Best Margaritas in the Portland area! 7/4/2006

Peppers is an oddity. It's a hole in the wall Mexican joint that manages to stand out among thousands of medeocre Mexican restaurants in the Portland area. If you are in Hillsboro it is highy recommended. This place is small, and ALWAYS packed, so be prepared to wait for a table. That being said the service is speedy, so it shouldn't take long. I would recommend sitting in the bar for a more quiet meal, as the restaurant section of the place is packed with kids and families. It has more of a fast food restaurant dining room feel, whereas the bar is more like a little cafe. But its a good place to go with kids. The food is authentic and divine, which is strange because the place isn't much to look at from the outside. The margaritas are well worth the trip for, and are served in three sizes, big, bigger and HUGE. They make some great specialty margaritas, I like the Chambourg Marg, which is sweet and tangy all at once. They make 'em strong here so make sure you arrive thirsty!\r \r The parking lot is small and cramped and only accessable from one side of the street. The bathroom is way in back and you half to walk all the way down through the kitchen and dishwashing area to get to it. Pros: Great food, drinks and service at unbeatable prices! Cons: small and loud, very informal dining room. more

Good Food, Great Value 7/25/2004

Great Food, Cheap. Get the chicken soft tacos, with only chicken, lime, cilantro and onion, on soft corn homemade tortilla, about $1 each. Put the green salsa on them. Sooo good. Or get the house special, which is slab-o fajita steak, big batter-fried cheese-stuffed pepper, 2-crispy chicken tacos, and 2 spicy crispy chicken tacos, with separate pile of avocado, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and a ton of soft, homemade corn tortillas. So good, and enough for 2-3 people. About $6. Some neighborhood toughs in there, but also nice families too. The soccer game is all in Spanish, in all rooms. Pros: Good Food, Cheap Cons: , Very hot, humid more
