Quiet place for relaxing time; watch out for highway noise 9/11/2009

Just returned from this place and felt like I went to an AARP convention. Definitely for the more ""senior"" crowd. They didn't take too kindly on younger people--or that's the vibe I received from them. No elevators for 2nd floor guests in the building where I stayed. And if you book a partial ocean view it will be verrry partial. In fact, the only way to see it is by going on the balcony and looking to the side. And forget about hearing any ocean sounds; they are drowned out by the traffic noise from the nearby Highway 1. One thing I did like was the place is walking distance to the boardwalk and shoreline, and walking distance to a very nice restaurant. Overall, this is a clean and relaxing place to stay. Staff is professional and strictly enforces the non-smoking policy. Kudos them them! And they throw in a few extras--free bkfast, wine/cheese and desserts in evening. Pros: Close to shoreline Cons: Highway 1 traffic noise spills over; forget ocean sounds more

AMAZING SETTING, SERENE, REMARKABLE!! 2/17/2008

Recently transplanted from Chicago, I made my first jaunt up the Pacific Coast Hwy to San Fran and booked a room here on the way there. Wow, what a remarkably beautiful stretch of beach! This land is untouched, calm, and relaxing. The ladies at check-in were genuinely nice and informative. I entered the room knowing it was facing the ocean at ground level with a fireplace next to the bed and charming porch outside the french doors. But reading about it was nothing like seeing it! The view from the room was amazing! Immediately I opened the blinds and door and stepped on to the sunken in garden porch, with seating for 5. Surrounded by beautiful native plants from which aromas of honey wafted to my nose, with the beautiful beach 30 feet ahead of me, the stress of living and working in L.A. was immediately relieved. After enjoying dinner at Justin Vineyard in nearby Paso Robles (we hired the only cab in the village to allow us to indulge in the vino), I spent the evening basking in the moonlight with my loved one, enjoying a bottle of red on that charming and lovely patio, wanting the moment to last forever. Oh, and the breakfast buffet was noteworthy! We booked on a weeknight in February and got an amazing rate! Will be back VERY soon! Pros: Moonstone Beach, comfort factor, uber romantic! Cons: not a beach for surfing, if that is what you are into. more

Cozy Getaway 4/1/2006

The inn is surrounded by lush gardens, across from the beach, quiet and serene, with a spacious, cozy room that makes you want to get back to it as quickly as you can. The gas fireplace and window seat, overlooking the water, were added bonuses. Location is convenient to Hearst Castle and town. The only downside was the necessity of selecting a breakfast time the night before -- on vacation, we preferred to play it by ear. We were told it was necessary so that the food would be fresh and hot, but despite our complying, our food was lukewarm. On the other hand, the evening reception provided a geneous sampling of wine, cheeses, crackers and sweets, fresh and delicious -- enough for a light dinner if you've had a big lunch. Pros: comfortable beds, quiet, cozy yet spacious Cons: breakfast reservation more

Wonderful Getaway 7/8/2004

Took my girlfriend for our 1year anniversary. The hotel is THE most romantic and cozy place I have EVER been to. It's got a sunken livingroom, fireplace, fourpost bed, balcony facing ocean and robes! The hotel offered complimentary wine and tea with cheese as well as breakfast (not continental) and desert at nite. We were blown away. Moonstone beach is the perfect place for those in love and the town of Cambria is just as quaint. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Pros: Great Hotel, Great Views, Great Amenities more
