Good doggie daycare 1/25/2010

We alternate taking our dog to Pawtropolis in Athens and another daycare in Atlanta. We are very happy with Pawtropolis and consider it one of the better ones we've used. The facility is always clean and the staff is quick to let us know if there is anything we need to be concerned about, i.e. he had an upset stomach, etc. We've also used Pawtropolis's at home service for cat sitting and their very convenient pet taxi. The cost for the taxi is a little high, but it's a great service if you get stuck at work or can't get to pick your dog up before closing time and don't want to board him. The owner places more of an emphasis on discipline and good canine citizenship than some of the other places we've used and I think that's a good thing. Overall, I would very much recommend Pawtropolis. Also, as to one of the other reviewers comments about her dog coming home smelling bad...your dog's playing with other dogs all day. It is going to get other sometimes smelly doggie fluids on it. My dog has come home with a smell from every daycare he's been too, some worse than others. His smell from Pawtropolis is definitely better than some other places we've been. I guess it's all about perspective. more

the BEST doggie daycare! 8/27/2009

Pawtropolis is by far the best doggie daycare in the Athens area! They have knowledgeable and experienced staff who always make sure my pets are healthy and happy. They obviously love animals. The keep the daycare and boarding areas really clean and all of the play groups under control. The facilities are AMAZING and so is the staff. The groomer is AMAZING. The only times that grooms aren't perfect are when the cut was described inappropriately to the groomer or the dog was really bad and misbehaving. The groomer will ALWAYS make any changes that you request. more

Crappy Grooming Job 5/23/2009

I took my dog there to be groomed, they seemed okay nothing to give them an award about, told her how I would like my dog cut. 3-4 hours later I came back to get my dog and she had cut his facial hair wayyyyyy shorter than I requested. I asked just to TRIM his face, she must have thought that was doggie groomer code for cut his facial hair down to an inch.. Not only that its all choppy around the neck and not evenly blended.. I Hate it! And Of course when they ask if there's anything they can change u can't say anything unless I wanted a weave for my dog!!! When i picked him up i thought it was bad, but not too bad, but after being home with it Im livid.. Not going back there.. more

Pawtropolis is awesome! 6/7/2008

Pawtropolis employees (including the owner, Amanda) are very well-educated in animal behavior and how to handle animals in different situations. They are amazing, however, they rightfully and understandably have the realistic belief that the customer is *almost* always right (meaning not 100% of the time), which in reality, to run an effective business, that is true to a T. Many dog owners think they know a lot more than they really do. Pawtropolis is clean; the dogs have fun in a protected environment, and I can't say enough good things about the experiences I have had with this facility. :) Allyson H. www.athenspets.net more

Multiple Bad Experiences 9/12/2007

We took our pets to Pawtropolis for approx. 2 years. Our dogs came home reeking of urine - even after only staying for 2-3 hours. So, we had to request a bath (cost extra) for even the shortest of stays. Although most employees were caring and courteous, some, especially the owner, were condescending at times. She left a nasty message on our answer machine after one of her employees made a mistake regarding our billing. On one occasion, we had to cancel our vacation (and pet boarding) because we had just learned that our dog had cancer. When we called Pawtropolis to let them know we were cancelling boarding, they said, "well, have fun on your vacation anyway." Because learning your dog is sick is fun? The last straw was this: we told the employees at Pawtropolis on THREE SEPARATE occasions that one of our dogs had leash aggression. They all ignored this information, one "trainer"/employee even telling us to our face: "that's strange, usually it is the opposite - dogs have aggression off-leash." Of course, that is why Amazon sells multiple books that discuss this altogether very rare behavioral quirk. Well, to be expected, there was eventually an on-leash incident. I have heard from other people, including veternarians, who have very bad things to say about this facility. They are the only (interactive) doggy day care in the area. If another business opened up, I would hope they would do a better job, for the sake of the animals. more

The place for pampered pets 12/3/2005

I love this place! Pawtropolis is the only place I've ever felt completely comfortable boarding my large dog. They are a day care, so the dogs play and socialize all day long under supervised conditions. At night, they are in their own individual space so that they can rest peacefully. They have 'spa' services, so that when she comes back to me, she always smells nice and has nice trimmed claws. Best of all, Pawtropolis is AFFORDABLE! It doesn't break my bank to leave her with them when we go on vacation. more
