Paws in Chelsea stays open!

I brought my dog in to be groomed and my dog was ruined. I was mortified when I came in to pick up my dog. I asked them specifically to call me before making any drastic decisions...

not upfront with fees - might not know your dog 12/30/2010

When I called for an update they didn't know my dog and I had to call back and insist they give me a realistic evaluation of how she was doing - they don't list their full fees on their website and do not volunteer information re. this to first time boarders like me. When you question them the woman I spoke with got shrill and defensive and yelled and interrupted. My dog came back healthy, i must say, but I would NOT go back and, honestly, I don't think I've ever encountered a more hostile and rude attitude as a customer before at any biz. Kinda shocking. more

My dog Shayna adores Paws Inn 10/31/2010

and so, of course, do I. Shayna speeds up when we get halfway down the 24th Street block that Paws Inn is on,when she realizes where we are going, and she is truly excited when we approach the door and when she is greeted (by name and with happy head rubs) by the staff.\r \r The dogs are divided by size and activity level into rooms, as in human nursery school; e.g. the Yellow Room. The staff keep a watch that the groups are in harmony and they are careful about special needs (e.g., I bring Shayna's food and don't want her to have access to others' food, so she is fed separatey in the kitchen. The staff pointed out to me that she heads right to the kitchen, and I see her trot happily there. The staff know and like Shayna and, I can tell, the other dogs as well.\r \r It's great to have this place and people in our lives. more

Paws in Chelsea=Daycare that can be trusted! 9/20/2010

My dogs are happy campers on the days they go to Paws. It was recommended by several friends and for me, it was a great relief to find a daycare where I could trust that my kids were getting good care when I couldn't be with them. No matter what time I leave them or pick them up they are welcomed by a staff member who knows them and has a personal relationship with them. The staff has really had a positive effect on socializing my dogs, helping them to relate to other dogs and play and exercise in a really good way. I love knowing that I can leave my dogs in a safe, caring environment where they will have what they need. more

Paws in Chelsea=Great Daycare! 9/12/2010

Hands down, Paws was the the best choice for us. Riley can't wait to get there in the mornings and hates to leave when I pick him up. The staff is fabulous, every member seems to have his or her own relationship with Riley, and Riley loves all the attention. I have complete confidence leaving my dog in the care of the staff and feel good knowing that Riley is having a blast while I am at work. I tried several daycare places before choosing one for my dog. While Paws is definitely no frills in terms of aesthetics, I find Paws to be as clean, or cleaner, than the other options in the area. Riley comes home no more in need of a bath than he would be if he were playing with several other dogs in the park. more

BEST DOGGIE DAYCARE 9/10/2010

A real blessing that I can have complete confidence when I leave Arthur, my adorable Chiweenie at Paws In Chelsea. The place is spotless; the staff is loving and efficient and Arthur has a wonderful experience. He comes home happy, having played with other dogs his size. No grouchy dogs allowed and I don't have to worry about him being hurt. He gets a lot of TLC in a free environment with no cages. I wouldn't think of leaving him anywhere else. more

Absolutely the Best!!! 9/8/2010

I take my puggle Kingsley to Paws in Chelsea nearly every day. My girlfriend and I work pretty hectic work schedules so we knew that finding a doggy daycare was of the utmost importance for all of us. After doing our research online and visiting a number of other daycares in our neighborhood, we weren’t completely sold on any of those places. Some were too boutique-y and waaay overpriced; some were just too dingy and smelled awful; some had very inattentive staff; and most alarmingly, my dog was just petrified being in most (if not all) of those places. Luckily we were able to find Paws, and when we came to visit for the very first time to check it out, Mike was more than happy to show us around and we both fell in love with the place immediately. Now, our Monday mornings are basically a sprint to see how fast he can get there, but unfortunately, that means I have to drag him home because he loves it there so much (true story, I had to carry him out of there after his first day there because he did not want to leave!!!). When we have to travel, we don’t even think twice about boarding him there overnight. They don’t leave him in a cage which is a major plus because he hates being in a kennel. While we certainly miss him when we’re away, much of our fears are calmed by the fact that the staff is so attentive to his (and the other dogs’) needs. I can’t say enough great things about this Sherri and her staff there. When I have to pick up Kingsley, I always get a rundown of his day from whoever’s at the front desk. They go above and beyond to make sure my guy is happy without any second thought, which in turns, makes me happy. It’s those little things that make the biggest difference and shows us that Kingsley loves the people there as much as they love him. more

Doesn""t Your Dog Deserve The Best 9/8/2010

Seven years ago I adopted a beautiful Tan and White Pitbull that I named ""Babi"". She was only six weeks old when I took her home from ACC. I didn't know then that I had just found my best friend. Babi's first six weeks with me were spent in a crate during the day while I worked. However as soon as she got her shoots, it was no more crate for her. But during those six weeks I had to do some homework to find Babi a place to stay while I was working, a place where I could feel comfortable and know that good people were looking after her. After vistiting several Doggy Day Cares, I found ""Paws In Chelsea"". I spoke to the owner Sherri who welcomed Babi with open arms. Babi walked in the place like she was home, and for the past seven years it has been her secound home. When I had cancer, Babi had to stay in Paws for 35 day's. I was constantly calling to see how she was doing and although the staff was trying to be kind by saying she missed me, I knew Babi was just fine. During the past seven years some of the staff have moved on and some stay, like Linn and Mike. They have pitbulls of their own and treat Babi as one of their own. Babi has also built a relationship with some of the newer staff, like Krizzia and Jane. I guess what i'm trying to say is ""I love my dog and think she deserve's the best care, and in Paws we found it"". Just ask yourself that question, ""Doesn't My Dog Deserve The Best Too""? more

Great care! 10/16/2009

I called to check in on my dogs the next day (after boarding them there for the first time) and they could accurately tell me all about my dogs' personalities. They said ""they love this and they don't like that"", etc. It was great that they spent so much time getting to know my dogs!!\r Also, one of my dogs is aggressive with strange dogs, so this is one of the only places in the city where I can board her (she's great with people, just not a fan of all other dogs). I'm glad it is such a wonderful place! I can board my two pups together, in a private room, and not have to worry about their safety! Yes, it isn't the fanciest place, but they get real quality care and that's what matters most. Pros: they get to know your dog Cons: not the prettiest place more

I love this place, great customer service 9/3/2008

I used to go to another doggy day care in hell's kitchen that was just awful. So even though they're not in my neighborhood, I don't mind one bit because of the care I know my boxer is getting. The owner and employees at Paws in Chelsea are professional, considerate, and take very good care of my dog. Their drop off and pick up hours are also very accommodating. I highly recommend them. more

Avoid 11/16/2007

Hopefully, they have a new groomer now, but if not I would avoid at all costs... The old groomer we used was terrific, but supposedly she moved back to Hong Kong... Let's just say whoever replaced her was AWFUL... When I picked my dog up, his coat was all uneven... No trimming around his paws and his face looked like it had been mugged... I brought my dog back the next week and asked for them to finish the job, but there really wasn't much they could do... I was not the only person either as several people were visibly upset about their dogs's new do's...\r \r As I said, maybe it was just one particular groomer, but I've never been back since... more

True animal lovers work here! 6/22/2007

I have been boarding my dog when I travel here for a year now. They are very attentive to him, and he is a rather wierd/high maintenance poodle. They have been very aware of his small size and his fear/uninterest in other dogs. The first time I boarded him here for 5 days I called EVERY day to check on him (I was worried). They were very accomodating and now when I go away I don't worry. The people that work here are wonderful and you can tell they love animals. I think they are awesome!! Pros: Cageless boarding, people who care about pets, good prices! Cons: can't think of any! more

My Dog is Loved there... 1/8/2007

I have a very needy English Bulldog - needs medication regularly as well a constant cleaning of the folds on her face. They know her name every time we bring her in and the dog NEVER gets nervous going into the store. She actually bounds out of the car pulling to get in. Like most pet owners in NYC - sometimes you need somewhere to keep your little friend safe - and I am quite happy doing it at PAWS in Chelsea. more

Such wonderful groomers - 10/9/2006

Not the fancy store-front, boutique-y New York City groomer that I once (relunctantly) used for my sweet doggie. I was thrilled to discover that the staff here was sweet and caring to my pup, even spending time with her behind the counter (not leaving her alone in a cage all day long). The staff is professional and kind. My dog HATES getting groomed, but I feel comfortable leaving her at Paws in Chelsea for her grooming, and from now on I will only go to them.\r Thank you Paws in Chelsea!\r P.S., the mini Schnauzer hair cut here is PERFECT! more

WONDERFUL 5/17/2006

I did a lot of research before I boarded my puppy, my 3 yr old dog, and my older cat for 5 days. The staff here took wonderful care of all of them and when I called to check on my babies they knew right away which pets they were (just by name) and could tell me exactly what they had been up to. They are very hands on and knowledgable and friendly. They love pets and you can tell. And the little play areas are so cute! I did a lot of research and every other boarding place in the city got a bad review from someone I knew. This was the only one that only recieved praise. And, as a bonus, my own vet boards his 3 dogs and 4 cats here! Pros: Friendly, Hands-on, Caring more

Top notch place on all counts 5/8/2006

Love that they truly do not cage dogs for overnight stays. One of very few places in the city. I've used this place for many years, and like that there is little employee turnover. Great staff, very nice, genuine, down to earth people. Have had great experiences with using them for boarding around 6x yr for the past 4 yrs. Pros: cageless overnight, great staff more

This is the best place to keep a dog in NY 4/26/2006

The nice lady who runs this place, Sherri is the most dedicated person in the world. She loves these monsters and it shows. I would not put my dog at any other place. more

Ms. Dee Imber 5/4/2004
