Good Luck if you plan to use their service! 9/4/2010

The store was in business for a long time, so I decided to try their repair service when my Sony STR-DG2100 receiver had a ""Protector Error"" problem and cannot be cleared just slightly after the two year warranty. And Paul's TV is the closest Sony authorized repair shop in my area. I like my receiver so I decided to get it repaired instead of buying a new one although a new receiver cost not much more than the repair cost. The repair cost was $90 which was fair, the store had 90 days warranty only if brought all my wires and speakers to test at the store which was impossible in my case since all my wires are inside the walls. I carefully checked there were no shorts in the wires and made sure that the impedance of the speakers was good. Then I hooked it up and tested the channels one by one. After I hooked everything up, it ran about 30min then the same problems happened. So I brought it back to repair again, and paid another $90 since I did not bring my speakers and wires at the first time. After I got it repaired this time, I hooked up my 20 year old receiver first and let it run for 3 hours before I hooked the repaired unit up. Just to make sure the problems were not the wires or speakers, I watched a movie for about 2 hours THEN the problem popped up again! So I called the store and asked if I can talk to the technician since I believed there were more problems in the unit than just replacing the burned output transistors which the tech did. THEN THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED: THE LADY WHO PICKED UP THE PHONE AND CHECKED THE REPAIR HISTORY DID NOT ALLOW ME TO SPEAK TO THE TECH AND JUST YELLED ""YOUR WIRES WERE SHORT "" THEN HANG UP THE PHONE! I just cannot believe my ears!!! How can they still in business with this kind of attitude? I guess it is because there was no competition (for the repair business) in this area? I don't want to waste my time and money (I wasted three weeks and $190+ for nothing) any more, so I bought a new YAMAHA RX-A700 and hooked up everything back. It ran great for two weeks now! SO GOOD LUCK IF YOU STILL WANT TO DEAL WITH THEM! more

A honest trustworthy business 5/31/2010

The ownership sponsored a Non-profit firm ""Fishing For Hospice"" when I was a officer for said firm, I personally have know Paul's TV before their sponsorship and have done business long after, the most recent being last week when I purchased a plasma 50"" TV. I cannot relate to the negitive comments that has been written lately about Paul's TV or any of their employee's. Pros: Honest, polite, very informative Cons: ? more

Dishonest & rude 2/5/2010

The week before the Super Bowl my television started acting up & with company coming over for the game I wanted to make sure everything was going to be working fine. My wife called Paul's & explained the situation with the TV. The person she spoke to said we needed a new bulb & a tune up with the total cost being $300. The service was prompt, they showed up the next day & got to work. Five minutes later they were finished. The technician installed a new bulb which we apparently needed. The ""tune up"" that we were told we needed was the technician blowing the dust off of the guts of the TV. The bulb cost $150 & the house call was $50. The other $100 was for the technician to blow the dust away from the inside of the television. That is not a ""tune up"" it's a rip off! I don't know if they tried to take advantage because it was a female who called or not but it's totally unacceptable & dishonest. My wife called the next day to explain how she felt deceived over paying $300 for a ""tune up"" we didn't need. The person she spoke with was rude & unresponsive. Our TV worked just as fine now as it did before this ""tune up."" If you do use Paul's TV make sure they don't talk you into needing a ""tune up"" or any other service unless you know it's necessary. If they hadn't pushed this ""tune up"" on us we would've saved $150 on the ""labor"" & house call. more

Bad service 1/5/2010

they took my TV for servicing and scratched the TV. They handle your TV in the worst possible manner. I cannot believe that it is family owned business because the people are very rude. DO NOT TAKE YOUR TV TO PAULS TV YOU WILL REGRET LATER. Pros: nothing Cons: very rude more

Owner Message
  • Here at Paul's TV, we have been a family owned and operated business since our orgin. Arthur Paul Sr. opened the doors to the first Paul's TV in Westerly, RI. in 1947, along with a staff of four employees. Raising a family and a struggling economy forced him to pursue other venues, and the family business dissipated until Arthur's youngest son Gary opened his first location on Route 184 in Groton in 1980. He opened the store with little more than his high aspirations for the future to accompany him, and as business grew, he slowly added members to his staff. Wanting to keep it solely in the family, he added fist his father, then his brother Steve. Jump ahead from our modest beginnings in 1980 to the present year, and things have certainly changed. We are presently housed in a 10,000 square foot facility in downtown Groton, right off of the Goldstar Memorial Bridge. We have a fleet of 6 service vehicles, and a staff of 16 employees. One thing remains the same though, and that is our strong family values. Four generations of Paul's now run the day to day operations of the business hand in hand with our outstanding staff, and we are all commited to providing the best service to each and every one of our customers
