Hands down, the best vet in town 10/2/2007

I went on City Search because I couldn't remember the phone number for Doc Patterson's clinic, and decided to read the reviews......I was shocked and dismayed by the person in Holt who gave such a scathing, untrue review of him and those in his clinic. It ticked me off so much, I had to sign up just so I could leave a review.\r \r First of all, keep in mind that the person in Holt is a rival, and is obviously threatened by Patterson's clinic, probably because they are overpriced and could use more customers.\r \r That being said, I have a few stories of my own. I was referred to Doc Patterson when my pup was ill, and no other clinic could diagnose. After a few short tests, it was determined my dog had West Nile Virus. Doc Patterson diagnosed 'tentatively' until we got the test results back, and he was right on the nose. If he didn't keep up with the changing times, would he have been able to CORRECTLY diagnose in one office visit? By the way, my dog lived thanks to the medication.\r \r Then, when one of my cats was acting strangly and wouldn't eat, drinking tons of water, really losing weight.....Doc Patterson smiled his infectious smile, winked, and said ""Your cat has diabetes, I believe, but let's check him out to be sure""...BAM! Sure enough, he was diabetic. Now, this could have been VERY expensive at other vet's, because it requires multiple (sometimes 2-3) visits every single week. Doc Patterson, with his big heart and understanding, waived ALL OFFICE VISIT FEES, because he knew I couldn't afford it. It would have ended up costing me well over $1,000, instead I wound up paying about $200, complete with medication and all (my cat was a rarity, and we were able to control his diabetes, so far, with pills rather than shots). Had he not done this for me, I would have had to put the cat down.\r \r Short and Long of it? Doc Patterson, and the entire staff for that matter, are incredible people, and amazing vets. Those who say otherwise have never had a pet in his clinic. Pros: Inexpensive, a vet for the working people Cons: He's losing money with his generosity more

Dr. Patterson beats MSU anyday. 6/1/2007

I love Dr. Patterson and all the vets who work there. I have taken all four of my dogs there and have never had a problem, and saved a lot of money. The walk in set up is great when you need to get in quick and cant wait for an appt. and it saves money too. They will work with you to help your animals by letting you make payments. Unlike other vets, they just get down to buisness and tell you what you need instead of getting you to try all sorts of treament that wont work. I tookk my dog to MSU because he wouldnt walk. I thought he was dying and they would not even look at him until my boyfriend could come with three hundred dollars for emergency fee. They then kept him 3 days, charged me 1200 dollars, and told me it was a belly ache. That same dog got lymphoma which is an uncurable cancer, I garuntee MSU would have took me for thousands in radiation etc. that would have made him suffer and he would die anyway. Dr. Patterson told me it was terminal, and kept my beloved dog comfortable with steroid shots and i ended up out only about 100 dollars over 2 1/2 weeks, he waived my office fee. He also performed a succesful surgey on my female to remove a sock, and with xrays, surgery and meds i only pais 450. He is great and so is his staff, and you would be hard pressed to find a vet who has never mis-diagnosed, including the highly praised MSU clinic. Pros: Price, staff, service, honesty and caring. Cons: Waiting for walk in can sometimes be long. more

Patterson Vet Hospital 2/1/2007

PATTERSON VETERINARY HOSPITAL\r \r I am a vet assistant at Patterson Vet Hospital. I have worked there for 12 years. I would not work anywhere else. Dr. Patterson and the other vets that work at the hospital are very compassionate, and professional. Your pets health and well being is the first priority. We strive to make your experience a positive one.The hours that we are open are varied, thus being able to serve the majority of people. Yes we are exceptionally busy, and there can be a wait. Our prices are reasonable, because Dr. Patterson feels that everyone that would like to share their life with a pet should be able to afford one, and not be charged highly inflated prices, while still getting quality care. \r \r All the vets, including Dr. Patterson keep up to date on all the newest treatments and procedures, by attending seminars, conferences, and in house seminars for the entire staff. Dr. Pattersons knowledge, having been a vet for 40+ years is great! He uses this knowledge along with the most up to date medicines and treatments. For example he will sometimes suggest that a cat with urinary problems be given distilled water, along with antibiotics and a prescription urinary diet. This is so that the cat is not being given water that could cause problems, such as well water that may contain too many minerals or salt in softened water that may be detrimental to your cat They can get the needed minerals specifically for them in the diets that we prescribe. \r We have many clients that travel from all over the state to come to our office. And a large amount of our clients have been coming for years. We have entire families that come because they feel that Dr. Patterson is such a wonderful vet. \r \r Everyone that works at the office have several things in common. One, their love of animals, and enjoyment they get in working to help them. And to help owners have a great experience with their pets. Patterson Vet Hospital is a great place to work! more

The worst Veterinarian in the area 12/28/2006

I work at a veterinary hospital in Holt as a veterinary assistant. I can't even count the number of people who have come in with their pets that were misdiagnosed by Dr. Dail Patterson. He often tells people to give their pets distilled water for urinary tract infections, when in fact, your pet needs the minerals and nutrients in tap water. Also, urinary tract infections do NOT come from water; they come from your pet's diet or food. We have had so many patients that have nearly died and many that have died, due to Dr. Patterson's misdiagnosis. I would not recommend him to anyone. He does not attend continuing education seminars whatsoever, so all he knows is what he learned in vet school, which was in the 1970's. MANY things have been updated since then, and he hasn't updated any of those things in his work. When people say you get what you pay for, it's true. You pay less at Dr. Patterson's office to have your pet misdiagnosed. Pros: No pros whatsoever Cons: Read my review, he's a horrible veterinarian who should NOT be in practice any longer. more

Dr. Patterson is great 2/19/2006

Dr. Patterson and his staff are the perfect answer for those of us who love our pets but don't want to spend a fortune on pet care. They keep expenses down by not taking appointments. Pets are seen on a first come, first served basis, unless there is an emergency. Usually there are at least two vets working, sometimes more. You can request a particular doctor or take the first available. Vet techs are employed on some days to give immunizations. Office hours are hard to remember so I keep their card handy. Dr. Patterson has care for my dogs, cats, and horses (when my equine vet was not available). I've seen a goat, a calf, a mini horse, and guinea pigs waiting for care. Pros: inexpensive, good parking, caring staff Cons: must wait your turn more
