No Wimps Here 11/2/2010

If you are looking for a covered, altered, smothered or somehow artificially flavored steak, you are at the wrong steak house. If what you want, need or desire is a steak that is cooked to your preference and that exudes mother natures intended flavor. Then you are by far at the correct steak house. And, yes. You do need cash or check to pay for your meal. As I stated, nothing artificial or plastic here. This place is the REAL DEAL. From the floor to the ceiling. Make no mistake, this is not your daughters chain restaurant. Visiting Pats is an event, not a trip to a garlic salt flavored high faluten, famous for its name steak house. So, go back in time and cherish your next trip to this fine full flavored all natural establishment. You'll be glad you did. more

Overrated 4/20/2009

My husband had talked about how great this place was for years and finally he took me there, I was very excited. The local non commercial atmosphere was nice, however the steak was bland and tasteless and there is not a very large selection of sides to pick from\r and we ordered mashed potatoes and green beans. The green beans were good, but nothing else was. And they were good because they were dripping in bacon fat and butter. If our meal were the price of a Ryans steakhouse meal I might not have complained, but $ 75 for two meals I expected better. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Quality of food more

Great Food, Great Service, Great Setting 3/31/2009

As a frequent visitor to Louisville for busines, I always try to push for dinner meetings at Pat's. Not only is the service always impeccable, but Pat seems to know every patron by name. The food is remarkably good, and, in these lean (get it! Pun intended!) times, my expense manager never complains about the tab for business dinners. There is always more food than apetites!\r \r The location is convenient to the Interstates, and it's easy to describe to anybody whether they have been to Louisville or not. Pat never minds if we stick around at the bar to linger for a few extra drinks rather than head directly back to the hotel. \r \r I always recommend Pat's to any visitor to the Louisville area. Pros: Perfect for Visitors ... Cons: Parking lot too full for so many guests ... more

Overpriced, Rude serves 2/22/2009

When visiting a friend in Lou. we wanted a good steak so they suggested Pat's. We were assured by them that even thought they had never been that it was the most renowned steakhouse in Lou. Let me keep this short.\r \r 1. Rude service by waiter.\r Our waiter not only forgot one of the side dishes but it took us almost to the end of the meal to get his attention to correct it.\r When it was time to pay for the meal I offered my credit card and instead of him politely informing me that they do not accept \r credit cards he just said in a rude tone ""Pat don't take no credit, There is a atm in the front"" Then without one other look tuned\r walked away.\r \r 2. Cold food.\r The salmon steak was cold in the middle and the cauliflower side was also cold\r \r 3. The price for me is just ridiculous for what you get whatever was here in the past just is not any more.\r \r \r The date of my visit was 02/23/09 at around 9pm Pros: No reservation but was seated fast. Cons: Poor service, some cold food items and very over priced more

Pat's Steakhouse - A+++++++++ 1/13/2009

Best steak and service in town. Family owned business. The bar drinks are made from scratch and that is so hard to find these days. Try the southern fried chicken - best in Louisville. Pros: A+ Food A+ Service A+ Experience more

Best steak I've ever had in my LIFE!!! 4/11/2008

My husband and I go to Pat's every year for his birthday. Every time we've been there the service is fantastic and the food is out of this world! The atmosphere is so romantic but really neat at the same time. They have tons of pictures and memorbelia on the walls of things from Louisville. It's completely family oriented the owners kids all started out working there. The owner is a friend of my parents and a super nice guy. You'll always see him in there working as hard as the people he has working there. It's by far the most delicious steak I've ever eaten, anywhere! It's a little pricey but definitely worth it! Pros: The food is amazing Cons: Parking can be tough on a crowded night more

Best Steakhouse In Louisville HANDS DOWN!!!!! 10/2/2007

I am fortunate enough to live in Louisville and I try and visit this restaurant at least 4 times a year. Let me just start off by saying if you have not been to this steakhouse, you are missing out. For starters, the restaurant is locally owned and operated. This is evident as the owner is usually at the front door to greet you on the way in and will usually be by to personally see you to make sure your meal is ok (if not too busy). I always go for the Fillet Mignon and my wife gets the Lady Fillet as we enjoy the personally hand cut meat. Yes, I did say hand cut which means you will not find a juicier and thicker steak in Louisville. The salads are good but what makes it great is the homeade Blue Cheese Dressing. The sides are usually served family style and my personal favorite is the Lima Beans or Steamed Cauliflower with cheese. This is not a la carte so the sides are whatever your heart desires. For dinner, I usually go for the locally trademarked Derby Pie with Ice Cream on the side. There are at least 8 other desserts to choose from.\r \r A couple of years ago, a new outdoor addition was added. This is perfect place for those that need to light one up. What keeps me going back to Pat's besides the food is the workers and the ambience. I know what to expect every time I go in as the service doesn't change like most restaurants (especially chains). The same employees are there everytime I go and visit and most know me by name. The bartenders are great and pour the perfect mixed drink every time. The music is great as I feel like I am back in the 60's or in Vegas listening to the RatPack. And finally, if you are IRISH you have to check out all the memorbilia and the IRISH Crystal on display. Don't forget to call and make reservations. You will not be disappointed! Pros: Food, Management, Music, Prices Cons: Not open on Sunday more

A Louisville one-of-a-kind 9/25/2007

I know this restaurant has been around for a long time and they just keep getting better with age. I have been for both romantic dates and group dinners. The food is outstanding and I love the downplayed atmosphere. Service has always been exemplary but what I go there for is a great wine with a fantastic steak. They do have an extensive wine list that is always up-to-date and the servers are very knowledgable. I always have them recommend something and I've yet to be let down. This is a one of a kind place and if you're visiting Louisville looking for the good local places this should be top on your list. more

Wife says her fillet was the best she's ever eaten... 9/22/2007

We loved the atmosphere of Pat's. We waited a few minutes (<10) on a busy Sat. night for a booth. We were barely seated when our waiter appeared taking drink orders. It seemed every time we looked up there was ""Chuck"" to serve us. Best service we've ever had..\r \r My wife had the fillet and I had the New York strip. Both were prepared exactly as ordered. \r \r What better can you ask.... atmosphere, service,, and fantastic food. We'll be back soon... Pros: Ambience and atmosphere.... more

A taste of Louisville 9/12/2006

My family dined here recently for a birthday celebration. It was a wonderful experience. We sat outside and ate a leisurely dinner. I never wanted for anything, and hardly noticed the server at all. I never felt rushed and the food was excellent. My steak was very good (although I did wish they had a rib eye). The lima beans are the best I have ever eaten. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I think it gives a good flavor for the atmosphere of Louisvillians. I had two children with me and they enjoyed watching the fountain in the garden. The only downside that I will mention is that they don't have a changing table for infants. If you have a little one, and you don't mind going to the car to change them then this is a great place to dine. I believe most will find this restaurant tops! more

""She ain't what she used to be!"" 3/4/2006

This place was my favorite steak place in Louisville...BAR NONE! As a customer who has dined here since 1981, I have seen the very good and the very bad. And right now, it's very bad. My last 3 visits have firmly convinced me that the service and quality of food, is nothing more then a memory. To say the management (owner) is rude would be an understatement! It's gotten so bad, that if you have a large group dining there, forget about getting your steak cooked properly. As a matter of fact, it didn't seem to matter lately rather I ate there in a large group or not, they consistently either undercooked my steak or burnt it! This place is living proof, that when a formula used to get a place from the bottom to the top is abandoned after getting there, it will always sink back to the bottom. Pros: ATMOSPHERE Cons: THE MANAGEMENT! more

Poor service & Rude Management 9/14/2005

Very mediocre food with little or no service and rude management when we complained. They do not have a no-smoking area. Although the restaurant was nearly empty, they seated people right next to each other. more

I just don't get it... 4/12/2005

So, finally after a year of living in Louisville and hearing all the rave reviews, I went to Pat's. And I'll never go back nor will I EVER recommend it to another soul. The best thing I had were the lima beans which, no doubt, were canned from Sysco. The tough, well-done low-grade pork chops were tasteless, the rolls, reminiscent of brown and serves, were hard and our server though kind and attentive was less than what I would deem knowledgeable about the menu or cuisine in general. Our $74 tab for two (sans tip) was way too expensive for what we got. I could think of a million places where I could spend less and have a better dining experience. Pros: Courteous Service, Attentive Service Cons: Poor Value, Poor Quality of Food, Poor Atmosphere more

awesome 9/30/2004

this place is great and always a treat. if you want to have a great meal (especialy a great steak) with great service, this is one place to consider! I could go on and on, but you really should just go try for yourself - you wont be disappointed! Pros: everything more

Top Of The Line 5/18/2004

My visit to Pat's Steak House was one I will not soon forget. I was astounded by the service we were given as well as the great food and wine. White table cloths and rich wood paneling in the old style was impressive. Prompt and courteous service and the delicous food was worth every dollar of the pricey tab in the end. I highly recommend this restaurant. Prime rib and White Zinfandel done just so was my choice. Pros: great food, service, ambience Cons: , n/a, n/a more

Very good. 3/11/2004

The steaks are good, very good. The Lima Beans are terrific. Try em, even if you think you won't like them. I really like this place. Cash only. more

Pat's is best 3/7/2004

Forget those national chain steak houses that are so overpriced in both food and drink. Pat's is a local gem and one of the best kept secrets in Louisville. They only take cash or checks, but the food and service are the best. They treat you like family and the owner is always available to make certain you are happy and well fed. I love this place! Pros: food, service, location more

Absolutly Perfect 1/13/2003

Huge great steaks, cool old town atmosphere, everything is al carte. Be careful they don't take any credit cards.... Pros: Meat, Meat Cons: No credit cards more

Not sizzling hot! 1/13/2003

Ho-hum steak for a nose-bleed price. Bad place for a health minded date, even the broiled fish came submerged (litterally) in a pool of butter. Pros: great reputation Cons: poor service, bad quality, premium price more

A Louisville Institution 1/12/2003

The proportions are large; the side dishes are delicious and served family style. Thier oyster cocktail is a trademark similar to the Shrimp cocktail at St. Elmo's in Indianapolis. more
