Wonderful, different, varied! 3/6/2008

I've eaten there 2X, the third about to come Monday. Figgered I'd start with the traditional. Good flavours, meat tender, crust delicate, golden--just beautiful. Next had Shepherds pie--I'm tracing my English roots!--and it was wonderful also. I'm going to branch out to GB meets the southwest, with the pork adovada next, then maybe the bangers & mash...So many choices! Try it, you won't be disappointed! Pros: Golden crust, red wine gravy Cons: none on the west side! more

Delicious pasties! 3/28/2007

A few days ago, I visited the CPC for the first time in the 4 years I've lived in the valley... why did I wait so long? CPC is cramped, but still inviting in all its darkness (black tables, chairs, booths, and dishes). I'm not much of a beer drinker (or of alcohol, for that matter), but I'd say that their beer menu would delight those that do--a Sedona offering is listed. \r \r 1st visit: Ordered Lamb and mint pasty with red wine gravy and Chicken Greek with two sauces-tahini 'n tzatziki. It took 20 minutes for these two pasties to arrive at my table in all their golden 'n crispy glory. While the lamb pasty (stuffed with potatoes, rutabaga, onion, 'n mint) was very tasty in its own right, the red wine gravy took it to a new level; unfortunately, I can't enjoy the sauce again, as the cooks will only prepare it with cornstarch, which I am allergic to. The Chicken Greek (stuffed with chicken breast, spinach, mozzarella, feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, artichokes 'n garlic), on the other hand, was so flavorful, I didn't need the 2 sauces; the tzatziki sauce paired well w/ the leftover lamb. Yes, I had leftovers. You'll be happy to know that these pasties keep well, wrapped in foil 'n kept in the fridge for at least 2 days. Just bake it at 350 F for 15-20 mins, unwrap 'n toast for 3-5 mins to enjoy it all over again. Service was friendly 'n efficient. \r \r 2nd visit: Having a few food allergies to contend w/, I was delighted to know I could call to custom-order pasties. I was told to give them 45-60 minutes, but it actually took 80 minutes. The Rosemary chicken (w/ ckn breast, rstd red potatoes, brie, rstd red peppers 'n fresh rosemary) was unremarkable, even w/ side of mustard cream. Eggplant parmesan (rstd eggplant, zucchini, broccoli, fresh mozzarella 'n basil, spinach, parmesan and marinara) was tastier. Service was lacking-after telling me that my special pasty was ready, she proceeded to ask w/c pasty was it that I ordered. Hmm... Pros: Tasty offerings, custom-made pasties, ample parking Cons: 80 mins or more advance for custom orders; 20 mins for regular orders; spotty service more
