How can you beat a location that has so much to offer. A fine place to drop in before or after a movie, a day at the county fair or a jaunt at the nearby beach. The freeway access makes it a desirable meeting place after work too.
Years ago I ate at a Paradise Grill in Encinitas. It was a favorite. I thought this was the same place, but told it isn't. The logo looked similar so we had to ask.
Caribbean music resonates in the background of this upscale paradise. I liked the clean lines and the white shutter feel. We sat in the room upstairs off the kitchen. It's an open kitchen, so don't worry if you need to have your food sent back, no one will be video taping ""kitchen help gone wrong"" for youtube.
Service was slow...but the buttery herb olive oil drizzle melt in your mouth Focaccia made me forget all about that. I could've snagged a pan of that and been a happy carb coma camper. As a matter of fact, I'm sad I didn't get a doggie bag for that alone. I could be eating a square while I do this review. Dang.
For an appetizer I had the Firecracker Shrimp. It said it was hot, and I'm a wuss for hot food, but it was actually very tasty. The portion was large and I was happy with that.
Now full on bread and shrimp, I have the Bacon and Blue Salad. Now who doesn't love bacon and blue cheese! I appreciated the bite size romaine lettuce. Better for a date. Nothing worse than a dangling piece of lettuce. I brought half of this home in a lovely doggie box and ate it before the review. I have to say, the flavors blend nicely and it was still tasty. Oh did I mention the Focaccia croutons. Yum.
For dinner I had the Peppercorn Steak. After much discussion we decided that Hanger steak is carne asada, without the asada.
A newer item to the menu that needs a slight makeover. I'd add some peppercorn for one. My personal choice for this meal would've been crispy onion straws instead of the julienne type french fries, but that's just me. I took home half the steak, and I will say, it was quite tasty here at home. Sorry doggies.
