Great Italian food in the Southern California 8/2/2007

With all the trendy or chain Italian places in SoCal, it is nice to know there are still family owned Italian restaurants serving up quality food. The prices were very good, and the food was even better. It is not a fancy establishment, but if you want great food at a reasonable price, this is a great spot. Pros: great food, good prices more

Our daughter, now 17, started us in a routine at this place. One bright day, at the age of 3, she told me that ""mom wants to eat at Papalucci's"". She had called mom at work and told her that ""dad wants to eat at Papalucci's"".... I knew I was doomed to life with a real (but wonderful) manipulator! After visiting resturants around the world, including many in Italy, it is still one her and our most favorites. Having eaten there now more times than any other place in the ""Shore"" I still find no fault in their service or presentations. I hope they don't fix it because it ain't broke! Pros: good food, friendly service, no waiting if b4 6 Cons: bring bling or cash, portions are huge, takes refrigerator sp more

I've fallen out of love....definitely 3/30/2006

I've been going to this place for 10+ years. It's a family owned restaurant, but the 50 something year old son of the owner has a crappy attitude and seems to be burned out on running the place. The wine list hasn't been updated in about 4 years (a Cab from J. Lohr or Kendall Jackson varies from year to year as to how good it really is, ya know?) and he doesn't seem to care. Tonight we ordered the Chicken Marsala which we truly love. We usually have the pasta prepared with olive oil and garlic instead of marinara sauce and there's never been an extra charge. Tonight the bad-attitude son of the owner wanted to charge us $5 extra. What a jerk! I'm finding a new Italian restaurant. There are plenty in Long Beach to choose from. more

Love it! 10/21/2005

My husband and I have been dining here for almost 10 years. He always tries to order something different, although the Chicken Cacciatore is a definite favorite of ours. I have been ordering the Shrimp Scampi since the beginning. Whenever I crave this dish and I order it somewhere else I'm sorry it's not Pappalucci's. It does get crowded on weekend nights but the busling sounds, great smells, friendly service, and of course the food, make it worth the wait. more

Lively Neighborhood Italian Restaurnt 5/21/2003

Always busy Italian restaurant at the North end of the 2nd St business and restaurant district. You really can smell the garlic half a block away. Friendly atmosphere with attentive service. I like the sauceless pizza: mushrooms, olive oil onions, spices, and lots of garlic, but no tomato sauce. Pros: Food, Service, Prices Cons: No credit cards, cramped waiting area, No reservations more
