Do not go here unless you have several hours to eat! 12/17/2011

While the food is nice at this restaurant the wait is totally unacceptable. We made reservations so they knew we were coming and it still took 3 hours to get served and an hour to just get some soup. The owner always tries to do your ordering. He seems very frazzled and and is not able to delegate to his staff when there are busy times. Do not go here if you are not prepared to wait. The food is good but the lack of consideration for at least getting a basket of nan and some soup to the table for your 3 hour wait is inexcusable. more

A Satisfying Lunch 11/4/2010

I went to this restaurant for the lunch buffet and got there at about 2:05pm. The waiter immediately asked if it was 'to go', then pointed out what time it was and what time they closed. The restaurant closes at 2:30pm. I was turned off that that was how I was greeted when I walked through the door but I was hungry so I decided to stay. The lunch buffet was smaller than I thought it would be but I thought it was very flavorful. The tandoori chicken was especially delicious. The food didn't have the spice that I expected it to have so that was a little disappointing. The decor lacked imagination and was old fashioned but it didn't bother me since I was just going by myself for lunch. Also the lunch was reasonably priced at 9 bucks. I would go back to Panahar..maybe a little earlier for the lunch buffet. more

So So 4/4/2010

Five of us went for dinner. We were the first one to arrive. There were a lot of waiters in Black (!!) uniform. The waiter was eager to order the food himself!!! The appetizers were OK. The food was so so. The taste was bland and needed more OOMPH. They do not serve liquor or wine. You can take it with no ""corking fee"" Overall: We do not intend to go back there again. Pros: Attentive service Cons: so so food more

Worth a try but not really all that 1/4/2010

This restaurant is small (about 14 tables) and the decor is simple. There were 4 wait staff rushing about inefficiently to serve everyone. The food smelled good, but it just didn't have that POW that I love about good Indian food. It was too much creamy-gravy and not enough spice. Maybe this is suitable for a non-Indian clientele. I didn't see one Indian family eating in the restaurant when I went... normally not a good sign in my opinion. Still, if you are new to Indian food, it may be worth a try. I thought it was ""just ok"" and I wouldn't make a point of going back. Pros: Smells good when you walk in Cons: Seems tailored to non-Indians more

Great food, wonderful service 9/27/2009

From the moment you walk into Panahar, you are treated like a treasured guest. The waiters enthusiastically explain all items on the menu and make recommendations (which all proved to be excellent choices.) They do not offer alcohol for sale but you are welcome to BYOB which they will happily uncork (for free) and serve you. (A nice plus not having to pay $10 for a glass of wine like at so many other places.) Pros: Food, service, BYOB Cons: tacky 1970's ambience, but, hey, it's part of the charm more

Yummy but don't go if you have a deadline! 7/20/2009

I really enjoy dining at this restaurant, however over the numerous times I've been the service is consistently sloooww! That may be a positive -- perhaps if it's a date night when you'd prefer to not be rushed -- but I've learned that if I go it'll be a minimum of an hour and a half before I'm out the door. Pros: Delicious food, BYOB Cons: Sloooww service more

Average cusine presented with loads of useless information 12/29/2008

First of all I would like to say that the place is not bad. Food is average to decent. Some dishes might be better. But I wouldn't go gaga over the editorial review. I really never liked any editorial reviews or ratings based on critiques being invited to taste their food. If you've invited a guest to your house wouldn't you keep your house tidy and clean, cook nice food? So if a food critique is invited to a restaurant, he/she will be treated with utmost care and the best quality food will be served. As a result a very positive review. But is it the case when you go to a restaurant on any given day? Food critiques should always go unannounced. Before writing a review let me state that I?m an Indian. I like to explore different cuisines. I have tried all sorts of regional cuisines in India and international cuisines here in US & UK. Pros: Price Cons: Different skin color leads to different service more

Good Food 9/25/2008

We recently started our own quest: to find the best indian restaurant in Atlanta for us. This is our second one and it was good. The ambiance, the cleanliness, the bringing your own wine/beer. As appetizers we ordered some Halim (the grounded lentil soup with herbs and spices) and it was outstanding... the touch of lime was genius! and the Chicken Shingaara (deep fried chicken-potato dumpling) and they were very good and flavorful. As main dishes we ordered: Lamb/Shrimp/Chicken Biriyani (rice with all those goodies inside) with a side order of Raita (yogurt sauce with black pepper and tiny pieces of cucumber and carrots. This dish was superb. The rice was so flavorful! It was spicy, but in a perfect balance. The yogurt sauce on top of the rice gave it another layer of flavor and creaminess. I would recommend it . more

Food is OK, but.. 9/7/2008

I visited this place after reading good reviews. My suggestion would be, if you are from any country in the Indian sub-continent this place is not for you. To be precise, you could probably cook better food yourself. Another thing I have noticed is you would be treated slightly differant from your fellow American customers. It is sad, but a fact. more

Favorite place in Atlanta to eat. 9/1/2008

This is the best food you can get in Atlanta for such a great place. I've been there about 15 times, and every time I go....it's the best. Pros: Food, Service, BYOB Cons: Nothing more

Best Indian/Bangladeshi food BY FAR 8/15/2008

this food is like HOME COOKING. this is as good as bengali/bangladeshi food gets. and the buffet is a steal. I suggest people ask for the lamb dish made with green mangoes that is off the menu, it is so good. the saag and veg items are also on point. Pros: food, price, service more

Authentic Bangladeshi buffet 8/11/2008

Food is fantastic - fresh, authentic and well-prepared. The warm nan bread goes with everything - come hungry and you won't be disappointed. Great service, great value. Pros: Authentic cuisine Cons: Could use more plate clearers at peak times more

Be careful ...all Indian restaurants are rated 4 or more on 5 7/8/2008

There is no Indian restaurant that does not have a 4 / 4.5 star review. Pl be careful. We are an unethical breed of people and inflate our ratings. Least realising that all indian restaurants end up being 4.5 on 5. Pl use word of mouth and personal discretion to visit all of these restaurants. more

Good food and good service 7/3/2008

My girlfriend and I went for dinner last night and the owner greeted us and told us that there was no alcohol served there, but there was no uncorking fee. He also helped my girlfriend choose a dish by asking her what she liked and didn't like. She ended up ordering something that wasn't on the menu at his suggestion, saying that the best things were not on the menu. She enjoyed her meal of spinach and garbanzo beans, and my Tandoori lamb was great as well. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Nickel and diming on small items more

Outstanding 11/14/2007

This is a very good restaurant. We usually get the Chicken Tikka Marsala and a Lamb dish and it never disappoints. They do not have a liquor license, so remember to BYOB. The service can be slow which does effect the stars given. more

Great Bangladeshi food, Attentive staff, BYOB 10/20/2007

We just got back from an awesome dinner at Panahar. We got there at around 8pm on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy, but not packed and we were seated in just a couple of minutes. Our waiter was very friendly, and the owner, Mirza, was very attentive. He really wants everything to be impeccable, and to get to know you and make you feel welcome. Pros: Excellent Food, Parking, Really nice owner & staff Cons: None! more

Excellent food, service & atmosphere 9/26/2007

My husband and I found Panahar's on City Search and were not disappointed! The service is warm and friendly and the food is delicious. What a plus that we can bring in our own favorite wine! We have always gone during dinner time but today I took a friend to the lunch buffet. The prices are extremely fair and the food was well seasoned, hot(temperature), and there was a good selection for the money. We will definitely continue eating at this outstanding establishment and we will bring our friends. Pros: Excellent Food Cons: Weekends sometimes there will be a wait, but it's worth the wait! more

Unbelievable Service 4/26/2007

If you are looking for a dining experience where you feel like you are the personal guest of the restaurant owner in his own home, with amazing food and unbeatable customer service, then Panahar is the place for you. Don't let the location fool you! Tucked into a strip mall on Buford Highway this place is easily one of the best dining experiences we have had in Atlanta. Pros: Service, Parking, Prices Cons: Can get busy on weekends more

Top 10 Best Restaurant in Atlanta 2/1/2007

This is one of the best restaurants in Atlanta. The service is amazing. The food is delicious. I have been to Panahar several times and I have never been disappointed. I have not tried the lunch buffet, but the dinner menu is incredible. I am a vegetarian and there are tons of veggie options. The waitstaff always offers helpful suggestions and often makes me dishes that are not on the menu. This place is especially great for a group of friends who want to have good conversation (the place is quiet), drink good wine (your own!), and eat good food that is inexpensive. Give the dinner menu a try! Pros: Inexpensive and delicious food; BYOB; service more
