Best

Probably my favorite ever !

Worst

I visited this place after reading good reviews. My suggestion would be, if you are from any country in the Indian sub-continent this place is not for you. To be precise, you coul...

A huge letdown 12/28/2006

I saw the reviews for this place here and went for the lunch buffet and it was a huge disappointment. Most of the food was cold and there is no variety for a lunch menu. Only two kinds of meat and both were undercooked and cold. Even the dessert was a disappointment. Big thumbs down from me. None of the dishes any kind of spices that would be assosciated with a South Indian dish. Pros: Location Cons: The main ingredient: FOOD more

Great Korma 11/15/2006

I've been to the buffet a few times and its good for the price. I'd prefer if they had more items but its convenient and usually not crowded when I go. Pros: Good tasting and good price Cons: More meat in carryout items and buffet descriptions. more

I don't get the hype AT ALL! Plus charges toddlers for a buffet! 11/4/2006

So, my husband, mother, 2yr old daughter and I decide to check out the lunch buffet. That way we can try out a lot of the dishes. I was expecting so much with the incredible reviews. My mom turns to me and says for me to come to LA some time and she will take me to a much better place. My husband remarks how it's the smallest ""buffet"" he's seen. The place we used to eat at in Charlotte, NC was much larger and actually had signs telling you what you were eating... PLUS tasted MUCH better. Sorry, folks... but maybe it was the day I came, or maybe it was the because we were eating the buffet, but I don't see what the hype is over. Anyway, after the tiny buffet with only two meats on it, average food, my husband goes to pay and we were CHARGED FOR A TWO YEAR OLD!!! 4 bucks! Then the guy says that *****normally they charge FULL PRICE for anybody not in a high chair**** Look, there is NO sign anywhere saying that even toddlers are charged for. So folks, just be forewarned that your little one who barely eats may be charged FULL ADULT buffet price, unless of course the guy cuts you a ""favor"" and only charges ""half-price"". Most places don't even charge for a 2 year old's buffet, let alone 4 bucks to full-price! The food wasn't even all that. Bottom line: We are still looking for *the* indian restaurant in metro Atlanta and more than likely won't be eating at Panahar again. Pros: Has a buffet, gives a free buffet coupon for first-timers Cons: May charge 2 year olds full buffet price, food only so-so, curry chicken not moist more

Hidden Gem! 11/3/2006

Dining at Panahar was a fantastic experience! It is a little hard to find (in a stripmall near the Goodwill), but once you get there you will love it. Our waiter was very attentive, made thoughtful and delicious recommendations (the specialty catfsh is incredible), and the food is very inexpensive. Definitely try Panahar! more

Worst food if you crave authenticity 10/27/2006

If you or your parents are from the Indian subcontinent or ANYWHERE in South Asia (or just know authentic when you taste it) DO NOT GO HERE!!! I had to doctor my food with what was available in the pantry. The food tasted like they were missing an essential ingredient: (some peppers, cumin, curry powders, etc). Stay away if you know real Indian/Bangladeshi food. Pros: Nothing Cons: Not authentic food, watered-down more

Lovely food, lovely people 9/18/2006

BYOB, NO CORKAGE FEE! They are pleased to accomodate to you in that regard. more

service as wonderful as their food! 9/14/2006

small restaurant, but big on taste and service. the hostess placed my napkin in my lap, the waiter offered friendly suggestions of soup and spice level of food, and the owner (mirza) took the time to shake our hands. we ordered chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, plain naan, mango chutney, and spiced iced tea. EVERYTHING was wonderful! they were very busy, but found time to be friendly when they were at our table. mirza even gave us a gift certificate for our next visit! and the hostess held the door as we left while the staff said goodbye and thank you. we have just moved here from Kansas City and were struggling to find good restaurants that we cannot wait to go back to--we are searching no more. Pros: excellent taste, price, and service Cons: small and needs updated more

Great Food, Casual Atmosphere, Good With Kids 8/20/2006

SURPRISE: Food Network sent a crew of 10 to film a ""Best Of Atlanta"" segment on Panahar while we were there. No idea who the host was, but there were 15 takes of him lurching up to the door and waving his arms excitedly about the food. In my world, a segment from Food Network a signal that this is a gem of a place! Not why we went there...not why I gave it a good review...simply a nice thing to have happen to a great little Indian restaurant. Pros: Exceptional Indian food, casual atmosphere, great for kids Cons: Atmosphere and strip-mall location might turn some people off more

Excellent service and great food 8/19/2006

Panahar offers great service and food at reasonable prices. The owner, Mirza, is friendly and offers lots of menu suggestions for first-timers. He and his staff were also very attentive, which we thought was a really nice touch. The food is not quite as spicy as standard Indian food, but the Mixed Tandoori platter was delicious and the Lamb Korma was the best we had ever had. We mentioned that the raita was a bit too sweet, and Mirza not only took it off our bill, but also did not charge us for our rice and dessert, a delicious mango ice cream. We'll definitely be back! Pros: Food, service, plentiful parking (Northeast Plaza Shopping Center) Cons: None! more

Very cute, excellent service, great date night place 7/27/2006

One of the best indian restaurants i have ever been to. Service was incredible and very inviting, make sure you ask about the specials offered each night they are very different and better then some of th usual indian style food on the menu Pros: great food, service and a very cute restaurant Cons: very warm inside wear light clothes more

2 things. great food & byob. 6/28/2006

When I lived in New England I had some of the same dining experiences: great indian/bangladeshi food & byob. Ahhh. What a combo, brings back good memories. I didn't think I could find the same quality food in Atlanta, but I did and I'm so delighted. The service is phenomenal and the food is equally delicious. You really must try this place. And they give you a very special treat if you are a first time customer. Pros: Tastier, lighter version of Indian Food, byob. Cons: If you don't land yourself one of the more cozy booths by the window, you might catch yourself starring at your reflection in one of their walls of mirrors. more

Awesome Food, Great Service, & BYOB! 4/21/2006

The food here is the THE BEST Indian/Bangladeshi food that we have had in Atlanta, and we've been around to block so to speak. Mizra and his staff provide excellent, friendly service and NO CORKING FEE so bring your beer with you (alcohol is not for sale inside). Panahar will become a staple of our dining out options in Atlanta. Pros: Awesome Food, Great Service, No corking fee more

A SUMPTOUS MEAL 3/29/2006

IT WAS A VERY SUMPTOUS MEAL. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT. THERE WERE A WAITER THAT IS REALLY NICE AND VERY DELIGENT WAITER. HIS NAME WAS RABIUL HE IS THE YOUNGEST WAITER. HE MADE ME AND MY WIFE FEEL LIKE HOME. THERE WERE ALSO MIRZA THAT WERE VERY NICE. I HAD A VERY EXCELLENT MEAL. I REALLY RECOMMED THIS EXCELLENT RESTAURANT. Pros: SERVICE, FOOD, VALUE more

What a wonderful treat. 3/22/2006

I thought I was just going to grab some quick cheep indian food with two friends of mine and we all were pleasently suprised. We were wined and dined by the very friendly and entertaining owner and had some very good indian food too. We ended up staying there for two hours and enjoyed every minute of it. I am not much of a food critic and this is the first time I have ever made a review on a restaurant. But I had such a great time that I thought it was my duty to report it. I agree with many of the other reviewers that the mango chutney is absolutely fabulous. Drink reccomendation: Mango Lassee. It is a nice smoothie like drink with manjo juice and yougurt. Very good. Pros: Best service in town., Mango Chutney, Parking easy more

Yum! 3/3/2006

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Atlanta. I've been going here for many years and the food has always been delicious. Well-prepared, veg*n friendly, great service, and lovely sarees hanging everywhere. The special holiday menus never fail to please, and be sure to get the haleem soup (special dish, ask for it) - it's one of my favorite things to eat EVER. The mulligitawny is darn tasty too. When I say 'great service', you must understand that the kind of service you get here is what you would expect from a restaurant that charges 3x what they do here. The owner is friendly and charming as well. Pros: veg friendly, food, service more

Best Indian Food in Atlanta 2/19/2006

We went to Panahar based on the user reviews on Citysearch, in search of Indian food that would not leave us sick the next day. It very much was exactly as described in all the reviews, and it was delicious. We took Mirza's suggestions on a few items and were very pleased. The only slight disappointments were the price (order 3 dishes and it starts adding up!) and the service. We each ordered a meat dish, shared a vegetable dish, and had appetizers and naan for $40. Next time I think we'll share 1 meat, 1 vegetable, and no appetizer to make the one-$ range. Service was slow only because it was so busy and they were understaffed with waiters. Pros: Food is wonderful more

What a Fantastic Meal 1/17/2006

I had dinner at Panahar tonight with a couple friends. We couldn't have had a better experience. The service was amazing, I felt as if I were being welcomed into someone's home. We ordered several of the specials that Mirza recommended and loved all of them. The food was just perfectly prepared. He even brought us a bottle of champagne on the house since it was our first visit! When you go, remember to BYOB-there is no corking fee! Pros: Great food, Amazing Service, BYOB more

Very pleased 11/29/2005

Food was deliscious, owner was really nice, and the service was perfect. Definitely going again! Pros: Food, Cheap, Good Parking Cons: None! more

best bargain for indian food 11/13/2005

This place is amazing. The service is great, the owner is extremely involved and is always there to provide suggestions and little ""extras"" that you simply will not find other places. The first time we went there, the owner actually gave my boyfriend and I a coupon for 25% off good for an unlimited number of times in November, and you can be sure we appreciated that! The only thing that I could even complain about it is the last two times we've been there, there always seem to be exceptionally loud people who don't know how to use ""indoor voices,"" which has more or less spoiled an otherwise perfect ambiance. Otherwise, this place is amazing, and I can't imagine a better place in Atlanta. Pros: friendly owner, great service, fantastic food more

AWESOME FOOD 11/2/2005

This restaurant is great. My fiance and I try to go once a week when we are in town. We have tried alot of the entrees and have yet to find anything we don't love. Also if you don't know what to order the owner Mirza is fantastic. He will just start bringing you out different courses, each one better than the last. What a great little find! Pros: Food, Service, Value more
