While we have never eaten in at Pam's Place, our multiple take out orders have been unimpressive. The food lacks depth of flavor. Spicey: can be, Rich: can be, Bright: rarely, but...

No, they're not closed 5/30/2009

Pam's closed??? 1/23/2009

I got off a plane last night and went straight to Pam's, only to find it closed and an EVICTION notice slapped on the door. While I was there, another couple of people came by and no one had any information. Pam's was the only good Thai food in the Venice area, with a sweet atmosphere and nice staff. Does anyone know if they will be re-opening elsewhere? Sad to see them go. more

FANTASTIC Food!!! 1/7/2009

This was absolutely the best Thai I've ever had! No grease or unrecognizable meats. All of the dishes were so fresh. I t was definately worth the wait (which I didn't find to be that long!) The difference with Pam's food is that you can tell no food sits around until ordered. The vegetables are crisp! Not at all your typical mushy, mass produced Thai food. I take all visitors here from out of town and they have all been as impressed as I am. Call me old-fashioned but nothing makes me feel better than when the chef comes out and checks on her guests! Pam is a lovely person and an AWESOME chef! Pros: Fresh, healthy and DELICIOUS! Cons: parking can be limited more

Best authentic Thai in Town 10/23/2008

Anyone who appreciates AUTHENTIC Thai food will think this place is phenomenal. I just ate lunch there yet again and literally every dish was delicious. Today we had Duck Salad, Fish Cakes, Green Curry with Chicken, Pineapple Fried Rice, these excellent little pastry cups with chicken (forgot the name), as well as a few noodle dishes. I recommend ordering family style so you can try a bit of everything. If you don't know what to order just ask your server for a recommendation. Regarding the service: It is very friendly, well-intentioned, but definitely slow. But that is only because it is a family operation, and Pam is the only one who cooks. It is for this reason that, as the restaurant's motto proclaims, "every dish is made with love." The location is rather unfortunate, and don't be surprised if there aren't many customers. The decor is inviting and comfortable, with hand-painted murals of elephants playing in waterfalls... Those Joe Six-packs who gave this place bad reviews thought they were walking into a fast food joint and can't be taken seriously. Give it a shot, you won't be sorry. Pros: Fantastic, flavorful, authentic Thai food Cons: Slow service - but very friendly! more

Slow Service, and very expensive for very small portion. 9/24/2008

My co-workers and I went there on Monday afternoon around 1:30 p.m during our lunch break to try out this place. We ordered 4 dishes, and there weren't anyone but us and it still took more than 35 minutes to get our food. I mean they did told me only one cook was working in the kitchen but like I said there weren't anyone but us. We saw the cook, he looked drunk. Anyway, we finally got our food. We ate really quick because our lunch break was almost up. When the bill came, we were shock how much it costed us for very small portions. Anyway, that was our very first time that we only left $1 tip for the waitress. We normally leave tips for the cook but not that day. We are not going back until they have new cook. Pros: Food tasted good Cons: The service too slow ( The cook look drunk ) more

Very expensive and very little meal per dish. 9/21/2008

Pam's place is one of the worst restaurant in Los Angeles. Very expensive and very little meal per dish. I went there with my girlfriend once. We ordered 3 dishes (fried rice, chicken curry and soups) and it cost us about $40. They wouldn't even seafood. We usually go out and eat at least twice a week. So we know how much usually cost for 2 people. We'd been to so many Thai restaurants. The food tasted just like any other Thai restaurants and way last expensive ($20-25) for 2 people. Pros: Food tasted alright Cons: Very expensive for small dishes more

This place shows no love it's terrible. 8/7/2008

This was the worst thai restaurant. The food was expensive with little portions. I placed the order to pick up. I ordered the mint leaf chix that barely had 4 ounces of chix. The chix was cut in small pieces almost ground. It did not have any vegetables and came in an oily sauce. We also ordered the pad se eww that smelled like peanuts but supposedly had no peanuts. Again the (mystery meat) beef was sliced thin and was fatty with the broccoli was yellow instead of green. The lemongrass soup was so sour and lemony we could not eat it... it was too overbearing and gave me indigestion immediately. Lastly, they did make up for the miniscule portions by giving two huge cartons of rice to accompany our meal. This is not a place I would recommend. more

Great food, awful service. 5/25/2008

Pam's has great Thai food on the West side. But do yourself a favor and order takeout or do not arrive expecting to eat. That may sound silly, but it's true. Two friends and I went to Pam's on a Saturday night. They asked us to wait for a table (although the restaurant had plenty of open ones). We waited for 20 minutes. We were sat and then ignored. We smiled and waved at the server a few times to get his attention, but he did not come over. About half an hour later, we thought it would not be impolite to go up to the server and ask him to take our order. He came over, looking a little crazed (the place was not slammed, but severely understaffed). He basically told us that if we ordered food, he couldn't guarantee we'd receive it. Uhhh . . . so, we left. Such a frustrating experience. Why ask us to wait and then ignore us if they can't guarantee service? Just be up front with the customer. The food is good enough to accept that kind of honesty. Pros: Great Food Cons: Horrible service more

Always great Thai 5/5/2008

Year in and year out, no matter where I travel, the best Thai food in the US is at Pam's Place. It even rivals my travels to Thailand. Pros: Food like your Thai mama cooked it for you Cons: I don't live in LA anymore. :( more

Inconsistent service...not a good sign. Dissapointing 2/28/2008

I've gone to this place 3 times. The first 2 times were pretty good... good enough for me to go back the third time. I never minded their slowness, their chatty boy (I assume is their owner's son) who insists on eating your food nor their exceptionally small portions. What I minded on my last trip there was that they forgot that we were there!!! We were the only group (of 4) sitting outside that evening but honesty, you can't forget your customers! I had to repeatedly go back into where they were gathering and chatting to ask them to come out to take our order...to refill our drinks...to get another plate....to get more rice....to get boxes to go...to get our coffee...to get our bill. They will go on for 15-20 mins without coming outside. This was my first time ever not leaving a tip. When they asked how the meal was (oh, after I went to pay inside...) I told them it was terrible and that I had never had to work so hard serving myself while out to dinner with friends. They simply failed to do their jobs. Will not go back again until the those servers are GONE. period. more

Pam's place has outstanding food -- closest to thailand this side of thailand. Spices are pungent and hot without being overwhelming. Tasty food, and super nice service. Do not get delivery -- takes forever; plus the dining experience is nice. Pros: outstanding thai food Cons: slow deliver (eat in instead) more

Tasty food but don't come hungry 10/16/2007

My friend told me about how good at pam so I have to try. The restaurant wasn't so busy as I expected. I ordered coconut milk soup and I waited around 20mins for just the soup. As the server told me, they made to order even the soup and all dishes they made fresh. I tried their pineapple fried rice and spicy chicken curry. So tasty...and I also tried homemade coconut icecream and again yummm. I just want to tell everyone that you can't expect to get food in 10 mins, no way, but it's worth waiting for. Don't come when you so hungry, it's good place for sit down , relax and enjoy your meals. If you have plenty of time, you should try Pam's place. more

Can't miss their green papaya salad 9/30/2007

I'm a big fan of spicy salad. My favourite salad, of course papaya salad. Since I tried their salad, I don't have to drive all the way to Thai town any more, my best salad just right there at Pam 2blocks from my house. Glad that I finally find my dreamed restaurant. I've never met Pam, hope that she's nice as same as her staffs. Servers have smiling face. I also like their decor, simple but cute. Food are a little bit more expensive than other Thai restaurant in the area but I can tell that everything made fresh. Don't know what to say but you should try. Pros: parking, service Cons: portion more

gamey 9/28/2007

As usual, I hear people talk about how wonderful some place is, I go try it, and I hate it. Pros: parking Cons: bad food more

Tasty food and friendly service :) 9/28/2007

I love Thai food very much and I've tried thai food in many Thai restaurant around venice. Pam's is the best! I had krathongtong last time, it so tasty and look so cute. I would recommend to order this for your starter. The server told us that some dishes take longer time to prepare because all dishes are made from scratch. I have lots of time so I don't mind waiting for 30 mins spicy wings and it's worth waiting for. more

Best Thai!! 8/24/2007

Pam's is the absolute best Thai food I have ever had! Pam is always in the kitchen and often comes out to say hi and chat for a bit. She often creates a special dish just for us when we go there. Last time she had some fresh pumpkin from her garden that she made into the most fabulous dish I've had in years! We're worried for her because her husband has been very sick and the season is slowing down. She's concerned about having to shut down. The medical bills have put a huge burden on them! I hope everyone tells their friends about Pam's and make sure you go there once or twice a month. You'll love the food and the staff is fantastic!! more
