A Wonderful Dining Destination 1/13/2009

The Painted Lady Restaurant in Newberg OR now has a nightly tasting menu... four courses for $60, you have a couple choices for each course. (It's their only option, there is no ""regular"" menu.) They use seasonal, local ingredients, so the menu is always changing. I was there in December and I'm still dreaming of the gnocchi --- pillowy, soft and firm, topped with a wild mushroom ragout that was heavenly. Rich, deep flavor, perfectly seasoned - I will compare all gnocchi to this gnocchi from now on. Pros: Seasonal menu, culinary creativity, attentive service, great cocktails and extensive wine list. Cons: None! Street parking maybe, but it's a quiet neighborhood, so it's not a problem. more

Wow! Wow! Wow! 8/16/2008

My wife and I dined at The Painted Lady on 8/15/08. We were celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary. Everything about our experience was PERFECT! We arrived early and were promptly seated at a private table for two near the rear of the dining room, which was beautiful. We ordered the grand tasting menu, rather than the 3 course meal. For the next 2.5 hours we were treated to an exquisite 6-course (we added a cheese plate) meal. Each course was perfectly timed and extremely tasty. Highlights: Parmesan flan, buffalo Carpaccio with spicy arugula salad, seared sea scallop w/ carmelized leeks, pate w/ blackberries, filet with red wine sauce, Oregon blue cheese, seared spinach and pureed carrots, chocolate souffle w/ raspberry cream (this was heavenly!!!). The service was perfect. Our water and wine glasses were never empty, and the waiter checked back frequently without bothering us. Pros: GREAT Food, Great Service, Great Ambience Cons: Can't think of any... more

Total Package Restaurant 6/27/2007

I have dined in wonderful restaurants from Africa to Oregon and The Painted Lady is what I call ""A Total Package"". The charming little house with the white pickett fence is inviting and adorable. We were greeted by Jessica and shown to our table. All the tables are good but my 2 favorites are the one by the front window and the one by the side window. Clever little grape vine plants on the tables are so appropriate for the wine country atmosphere. I love the different meal course selections. I almost always choose a soup for the first course-even in the summer-because Chef Allen makes thee most delicious soups! Second course is usually a fresh fish that is truly fresh! And the desserts! A perfect ending to a total package meal. Good luck deciding which dessert to choose. My self, I always go with the chocolate choice but the fresh fruit treats are really yummy in the summer. What a great restaurant, with great service! I love it! Pros: Cute house, great service, local wines, outstanding food. more

Best Restaurant in Wine Country 3/6/2007

The Painted Lady is, by far, the best restaurant in Oregon wine country and competes with Portland's best. A variety of local fare changes every night and is paired, on the chef's menu, with favorite local wines. The service is spot on... a well-oiled machine run by the ""front of the house"" owner. I have been many, many times and have never been disappointed with food, service, accomodations, or the very reasonable price. Don't miss this Willamette Valley gem. Pros: Great food/wine pairings Cons: Wine list a little short more

A Wonderful Find! 2/27/2007

The Painted Lady is the restaurant that my husband and I choose to visit for every special occasion. We even find ourselves looking for reasons to celebrate just so we have an excuse to go back more often. The service is impeccable and the food is exquisite. The Painted Lady is the one place we can recommend to anyone and trust that they will be as delighted as we are every time we spend an evening there. Pros: Everything more

The Painted Lady: a very special evening 1/29/2007

My wife and I visited the Painted Lady for the first time for our wedding anniversary the day before New Year's. We had the full fixed menu with the wine suggestions. We could not have been more pleased. The courses were promptly served with enough time in between to really savour the food. The wine was perfectly matched and not too much and not too little. The server was very experienced and was happy to share his view on the wine being served and had interesting experiences to share about the vineyards. The courses were heated properly and obviously served immediately. The entire evening was gracious and memorable. We can't wait to get back up to Portland and visit Newburg. This restaurant compares most favorably with the best two restaurants we have here in Ashland. Pros: Service, choice of wines, preparation of courses, overall top notch more

Best fine dining restaurant on the West Coast 12/8/2006

I have had the pleasure of dining at The Painted Lady many times and I am always impressed with the entire dining experience. The service and the atmosphere is outstanding, but the food is beyond belief. I have had the opportunity to dine at many very nice restaurants in the States and abroad and I can honestly say The Painted Lady is at the top of all of the restaurants. Don't miss the oppertunity to have dinner here!! Pros: Great food and wine list. more

A Food Romance 12/7/2006

If you are looking for a great restaurant in the Willamette Valley you have to look no further than The Painted Lady in Newberg. With boutique hotels and resorts finding their way to the wine country in the near future the restuarant scene has already arrived. The Painted Lady is located in Newbergs historic downtown which is just minuets away from some of Oregon's most well known wineries. more

Why hasn't this place gotten a James Beard Award yet?? 11/13/2006

Back in Oregon wine country again this fall...but the best part of the trip is dining at The Painted Lady. Every time I return, the consistency and attention to minute details is evident. Chef Allen perfects his seasonally amazing concoctions and dazzles you with flavors and technique, not trendy juxtapositions. The Painted Lady should easily make the list of Top 5 Restaurants on the West Coast. Pros: Outstanding food quality, flavors, and professional service Cons: Absolutely None!!! more
