A View Looking For A Restaurant 9/2/2007

My husband and I have been fortunate to have dined at many fine restaurants. Some have been highly reccommended and others not. This was our second experience at Pacific's Edge and I must say that it was as negative an experience as our first was. Shame on us for giving it a second chance!!!! The food for all of the hype is mediocre and I believe that I am being generous with this statement. The service was the worst I have ever experienced at a highly regarded restaurant. We would have appreciated some service to go along with the ""lip"" service. I would not reccomend this establishment to my worst enemy! Unfortunately, many restaurants gain recognition based reccomendations by inexperienced diners or by food critic reviews. Pros: View Cons: Food, Service more

Absolutely wonderful 1/3/2007

With all due deference to the experience of the previous reviewer, I must say Pacific's Edge has made our list of one of the best restaurants in the United States. We stayed in Carmel over the Holidays and had the usual ""nice enough"" dinners at Bouchee, etc., but Pacific's Edge was off the charts. I am a straight food person when I rate a restaurant, so I wasn't swayed by the beautiful setting (BTW, it's a crime this place doesn't serve lunch with the Ocean right outside). With that, the service was the best we had all week in Carmel. Pros: Setting, Food, Service Cons: No Lunch more

Fantastic ambience, only fair food 2/6/2006

This is by far the most pretentious restaurant I've ever been to and I travel extensively. The setting and service are wonderful, but it is all spoiled by the outrageous prices for food that is better at hunderds of way less expensive places. The wine list is outstanding - a Wine Spectator Grand Award - but the wine is also way overpriced averaging 3X retail or more. The menu is such that one can sample small portions of several entrees. Of the 3 I had (at $55), 2 of the 3 were only mediocre. At these prices, they should have been phenominal. The veal dish was bland and dry and the lamb is better at the Outback for way less money. Only the scallops were at all memorable. Pros: The view, Service Cons: food, price more

Beautiful view, average food, high price 9/27/2004

We went to their Sunday brunch. The ambience was great: gorgeous view, live jazz, excellent service. However, the buffet brunch selection was very limited in choice and quality. At 50.00 a person, the selection and quality need to be higher! Pros: views, service, live jazz Cons: , food selection, value more

sunsets!!!!!!!! 2/25/2003

Never go to an elegant restaurant during Holidays!! If you are silly enough to ""dine"" on such a day, maybe you get what you deserve.(per last review) Pacific's Edge is one of the most elegant places I have ever dined. Service, impeccable, especially when it comes to wine! Pros: view, food, service Cons: no kids, slow seating more

5 Course Dinner but they only have 4 12/1/2002

We went for Thanksgiving....what a hoot! The service and the serving of the food was excruciatingly slow......we thought it could not get worse.....and then it did......after our 2nd course of this $75 5 course meal, they served the 4th course....I guess the fish course was too difficult to find in that they are only a mile from the ocean.....my family was howling at their incompetence....finally when we went to pay we had to chuckle and say....oh do be kind and only charge for the 4 of 5 courses you served. And the food......unimaginative and uninspired.....the combinations were obviously forced by a chef who needs to practice far from the fine dining of San Francisco......... Pros: See the ocean Cons: See it at the park, Food stunk, Clueless Service! more
