A lovely and fabulous brunch! 10/23/2005

Cruzing on Irving street on a saturday afternoon looking for some good grubbin'. Heard about the great oysters from some friends who love the cajun style of P.J.'s. At the bar I had some beautiful and fresh oysters from washington along with a crab cake benedict called the juliana. The Juliana is the best, most unique benedict I've ever had. The servers were sweethearts and had great suggestions. I also had their awsome weekend bloody mary special for $2.95! What a spicy deal! more

Food and service were amazing. Atmosphere was great. I came on my birthday and plan to celebrate there in the future as well. Don't leave without trying the raw oysters and swamp pie! more

i am fairly new to the city and am just discovering my dining options. when i went to pj's, for the first time since i moved to San Francisco, i was welcomed with open arms! I went for the following two days in a row, i loved it so much. When i went back, they actually remembered me. The food is sensational and reasonably priced for what you get. My new favorite place! more

OUTSTANDING SEAFOOD & GREAT SERVICE 10/22/2005

WOW! Whatever they're doing, don't STOP! The service was excellent (even a glass of wine while we waited outside!). The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. But the food EXPERIENCE was BAR-NONE! Started with the Mussels followed by a beautiful Caesar Salad, then the Trout & Ahi Tuna for the main courses.... I'm still dreaming about it! Excellent wine choices really rounded out the evening for us. We loved the upbeat atmosphere! Will be recommending this to all our friends and have now put this fantastic restaurant on our 'FAVORITE LIST". "Cheers" to everyone at PJ's!!! Pros: Excellent Seafood, Loved the staff, Great atmosphere more

Ladies night out 10/20/2005

A group of us, 7 ladies, ages 35 to 85 go every couple of months to PJ's. We go for the food, which is excellent, and the friendly people who help us. We are always treated to the most moutwatering horsd'oeurves, allegator eggs, popcorn shrimp, crab cakes. They are heavenly. Full, but can't pass up the main course. Trout Calouha is outstanding, never have had anything like that. Trout smothered with onions and shrimp. Everything that is ordered is devoured. For the non-fish eaters they have the best small lamb chops, just melt in your mouth. Finally, if you can eat dessert, the bread pudding, creme brule' hit the spot. The wait staff are hard working, friendly people, who have taken the time to know us. Our group will only go to PJ's. Pros: all food, atmosphere, feel at home Cons: parking more

Ate here a few nights ago at the bar. The bartender was extremely attentive and helpful. Tasting wines and suggesting appetizers and entrees. He was really busy but gave me and my girlfriend great service. Get the roasted crab for an appetizer, the zuchinni appetizer was fantastic!! We split the special swordfish entree that was exceptional! the place was packed and had a great vibe! Looking forward to coming back!!! more

Stoped by the other Sunday and meet John the owner and Malcolm the GM, they recomended some great dishes. The Egg's benedict and sramble were served hot and really fresh, the homemade salsa on the scramble was so good. I love the cajun touch to the country style potato's. service was great and Malcolm sure can make a nice spicy bloodmary. Would like to go back for dinner. I am sure it's alot of fun with good food and fun people... more

The first time I went to PJ's I was taken back by the whole experience. I started with the Alliagator egg and then had the tuna dinner, Oh my word, and the lamb and shimp. Mercy.. I have eaten all over the great state of L.A. and bar none, PJ's is the best in S.F. Since, we have gone on a thursday night and the Chef was passing out Jello shots, come on now, straight down home lovin. The Staff is on top of everything to make dining a good fun time. Hats off to ya All !! Wild Bill Pros: bar seating, great staff, JELLO shots Cons: parking more

Fun atmosphere, food and service lacking 10/2/2005

We enjoyed being there for its loud, bositerous atmosphere but the food was mediocre and pricey. The waitress didn't make an attempt to cover her annoyance when we asked questions about the menu that she thought were obvious or silly. The swordfish special (which has been mentioned in other reviews) was below average and definitely not worth the $24 price tag. I was really hoping that this place would be good because it always looked like a lot of fun when I walked by on my way to other restaurants but, in the end, I don't think I will go back. more

Appetizers better than entree's 9/3/2005

Heard so much about this place. Decided on a whim to try it out. Left scratching my head, "why is this place so highly rated?". Had 2 appetizers. Gambas al Ajillo (not spicy but flavorful) and Calimari. Calimari was too soft and chewy. Breading wasn't deep fried enough. My friend had the Jambalaya as an entree. Wasn't spicy, nor flavorful. Never thought I'd have a bland Jambalaya...ever. I had a swordfish dish that was not worth the $24.00. It was just....ok. Very very crowded and not good for a date. (as we were next to a couple on a date and heard every word of their conversation) Service was slow and below par (at least they didn't mess up our order). Truly thumbs down. Pros: Location to , better restaurants Cons: crowded, expensive, difficult parking more

This place is over priced and pretentious. They don't come anywhere close to REAL CAJUN-CREOLE at this place. Besides, the menu is way over priced for what they give you in portions and food quality. Pros: None Cons: Overpriced, Bad Food, No Service more

Do not eat here 7/14/2005

I found the service to be absolutely abysmal. We were seated and no one came to take our order; only after asking nearby waitresses FOUR times did someone finally come to take our order. The service was slow and rude. I will never return and recommend you do not eat here. more

Great staff and ambience, terrible food 5/11/2005

Really liked the waitstaff, they treated us well; and the ambience was really fun. But the food was horrible. My lamb was swimming in pools of grease. The ahi smelled fishy. The risotto was like paste. The crab cakes were 70% mayo. And on and on and on. I'm never going back again. Pros: staff, atmosphere Cons: food, food, food more

The food, staff, and crowd are all great. This is one of my all time fav's in SF...and I have been around. I havent missed a birthday at PJ's in 5 years. If you are looking for a quite romantic dinner, this is not the place for you. It is loud, but not over the top. This is a wonderful place to eat and people watch. Expect to wait without reservations, but only because it is worth the wait...and everyone who is in line knows it. Pros: food is wonderful!!, fun crowd, great staff Cons: loud-maybe not a con, may have to wait more

Great Subsitute for New Orleans 2/28/2005

Went here for my birthday dinner, and it was great! I was one out of 4 other ppl that shared a birthday and had the staff come out with cake and candle. Louisiana Blue Crab Cakes appetizer was decent. Molinari Combo Rigatoni was good. But the Cajun Lamb Chops And Gulf Prawns P.Q. and Fresh Grilled Trout Catahoula With Rock Shrimp were excellent. If you don't mind noise and a bit of a crowd, this place is for you. more
