Best

I've been going down to this area with my family for 15 years if not more. I must say after going so many times, even to this day it never gets old. I love being on the wide open ...

I think the people who write most of the reviews must be realtors trying to rent out their homes. The Outerbanks is overcrowded with little for families to do other than go to th...

LAID BACK 5/22/2004

i lived there for two years and loved it. the place exploded in the summer, which was great, and was very peaceful (but sometimes empty) in the offseason. if you are looking for some nightlife, might i suggest going to the newly-renovated kelly's, or port o' call, or hanging out at mama kwan's or slammin' sammy's? and please please please, patronize the local business. it's what makes OBX so charming. Pros: friendly people, nothing but beach! more

Fabulous 5/22/2004

This is a great place to vacation. I am from the Outer Banks, and truly believe this is one of the greatest places on earth. The people are friendly, the seafood is some of the best in the world, and you have to go to Lafogata. It has the best mexican food this side of Mexico. The food is great, the staff is friendly, and the prices are some of the best (most reasonable) on the beach. more

OBX lover 5/22/2004

Ever since I was old enough to walk my family has gone to the OBX. The best way to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere is not a hotel. You go and pay 5,000$ for a 8 room beachfront house for a week. It seems like alot, but once you've gone you always are wishing to go back. The people are awesome. Just make some iced-tea (1 1/2 cups sugar, 1/2 cup lemon, 5 teabags, a gallon of water) and chill out on the beach! You are bound to love it! Pros: Relaxation, Swimming was good, No sharks more

Outer Banks Best in USA 5/21/2004

We have gone to the Outer Banks almost every summer for 20 years, and it is the best there is. We first went there when we lived in Baltimore, but now we live in California and still go, even though we live only 12 miles from California beaches. People ask why we go 2500 miles to visit North Carolina when we live so close to the beach. Well, the answer is that California beaches are a joke compared to the Outer Banks. Pros: Wide beaches, Uncrowded, Great food more

Outer Banks 5/21/2004

I have been going to the Outer Banks since I was 7 years old and am now 32. We started in South Nags Head and have worked our way north to Corolla. I have loved spending part of every summer on the unspoiled. wide, uncrowded beaches. The lack of commercialism is perfect. more

Outer Banks 5/21/2004

I've been to the Outer Banks twice so far and I have absolutely enjoyed it there. There are so many beach shops and plenty of restaurants to eat at. Everyone seemed pretty much friendly when I was there and the condo I stayed in was pretty kept up. Prior to my visit there they had a hurricane and at the condo I stayed at, even the ones I did not stay at, were already fixing everything up. There is a bunch of activities to do for every age, rather it be golf, go-karts, swimming park, shopping, or just going to the beach. The beaches were very kept up. I would recommend taking a trip here if you enjoy relaxation or would just want to be by the beach. Pros: friendly, clean, close distance more

AWESOME 5/21/2004

I VISITED THE OUTERBANKS LAST YEAR FOR A WEEK AND I AM IN AWE WITH THE WHOLE AREA, IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND OFFERS SO MUCH TO ANY LOVER OF THE BEACH AND OCEAN. FOOD WAS VERY GOOD AND OFFERS A PRICE RANGE WHICH IS AFFORDABLE FOR EVERYONE............ THE SUNRISES AND SUNSETS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND THE AREA IS CLEAN AND PEOPLE FRIENDLY ---- HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT THE OUTERBANKS IS A PLACE EVERYONE SHOULD EXPERIENCE......... Pros: NOT CROWDED, INEXPENSIVE, VERY CLEAN more

Woderful Outer Banks 4/1/2004

We originally began vacationing in the OB after the northern beaches in Delaware became too pricey. After our first trip, we were hooked. Beautiful beaches, no high-rises. Plenty of activities for those who wish them, but great place to just vegetate. Wonderful, inexpensive and expensive restaurants, historical sights, and lighthouses, too. The only drawback is our route from Pittsburgh, not an easy or quick drive, but well worth the trip. Prices continue to rise so if you're looking for oceanfront accommodations, you will play accordingly. Still bargains if only oceanside. Great homes for large groups. We found this to be a great way to experience luxury accommodations at a fraction of the house price. Pros: beaches, accommodation choices, activities Cons: , traffic in summer more

Corolla (4x4 area) 8/7/2003

We have had a family reunion on the Outer Banks the last three years. I have nothing but great things to say about the area, people, environment, etc.. I have rented a house for a week on the 4x4 area where you can drive on the beach up to the rental property. Have a MARVELOUS time every year. The kids have had a blast! Have had bad experiences with 1 rental agency though (Karichele Realty). Would definitely stay away from them. Pros: Relaxing environment, Great for families, 4x4 is # 1 Cons: Karichele Realty, horrible, service! more

Spectacular Place 8/7/2003

OBX is a true vacation. You can do nothing, or you can venture out and see the sights. The Northern Shores are incredible. Living in New Jersey, I had a whole different perspective on beach locales,, you can't beat the uncrowed, prestine beaches. The beautiful rental homes are incredible. Nothing but relaxation and fun. Pros: beaches, lifestyle more

Advice From A Native 8/7/2003

People seem to forget that the OBX doesn't stop at Ocracoke. If you really wanna get away from it all you should try Core Banks or Shackleford Banks just south of Ocracoke Island. Hate traffic? This is the place for you. There are no roads. And forget high priced restaurants, because there aren't any of those either. This is true beach living. Water, sand and sun and the occasional seagull. This is life at it's best! Pros: Relaxed, Quiet, Peaceful Cons: Far from civilization, but since when did, that become a con? more

Wahoo!! Outer Banks N.C. 8/7/2003

My vacation to the Outer Banks was awesome! there are hardly any crowds, the food anywhere you go is great and let's not forget all of the great places to visit and all the fun stuff to do! Pros: not crowded, beautiful scenery, plenty to do Cons: little expensive more

OBX is a great vacation spot 8/7/2003

My family has been vacationing in the Outer Banks for as long as I can remember. While it is not the closest beach to our home, Nags Head is a welcome escapse from the crowded beaches of Va. What I love most about OBX is its easy access to the best nature has to offer while still roviding fun and upscale dining. This place really offers the very best of both worlds. Pros: Beautiful Beaches, Great wave, Very Friendsly Locals more

Family getaway 8/7/2003

I have been to the outer banks for three years and it just keeps getting better. Perfect for a family vacation away from the busy cities. Very quiet and relaxing, definately my favorite place to visit. One tip though.. when you go make sure that you rent a house for a week, not too expensive and you have your own private beach and pool. Its almost like a home away from home Pros: Quiet, Relaxing, Beachfront renting Cons: No nightlife, Storms, water isn't that warm more

My #1 choice 8/7/2003

I love the outer banks , if you could go to one beach during the summer pick the outer bank's beaches. They are never crowded and are always clean. Pros: clean beaches, not crowded, good food Cons: nothing its perfect more

Outer Banks 7/31/2003

The outer banks is the most beautiful beach ever. You can go out on to the beach and not see another soul for miles. It is truly an amazing place to vacation. The sunsets are amazing and the locals are warm and friendly. Hit up the local shops and restaurants for some delicious food! It is truly a must see vacation spot for everyone! Sunbathe, visit the lighthouse, go see a play, or just make a sandcastle on the beach. You can even drive your car out onto the beach with a cooler and make a day of the ocean! If you are looking for an easygoing vacation spot the Outer Banks is definitely for you! Pros: secluded, beautiful views more

BEACH BUM 7/31/2003

Please take the Outer Banks off the top ten beaches list. I don't want anyone to know about this wonderful place. Especially tacky tourists. The Outer Banks are Paradise with clean empty beaches, great people, good restaurants and wonderful nature. I've been to many beaches but the Outer Banks are the best. It gets me away from civilization. Stay away!!!! It's my paradise! 8 {) Pros: beaches, nature, peace and quiet Cons: kitty hawk tourists more

obx 6/14/2003

ive been going to the obx since i was born. im not that old but old enough to kno that its gotten overcrowded with newcomers. although i will always love the atmosphere it has and it will always be like a second home to me. its a great place to go depending on where you stay. i suggest past corolla and by 4x4 country where its not as crowded so if you want it can be just you and the beach for a whole week. its a greatplace. i just hope these new tourists dont ruin it and they shouldnt act like they own it. more

outer banks is tops and # 1 on my list 8/18/2002

Well I guess I'm a little bit prejudice because I was born in Buxton. so I pick the outer banks as tops on my list. Especially on Hatteras Island where it isn't commercialized like Nags Head. more

beach paradise 7/20/2002

We love staying on Hatteras Island. It's the best !! Quiet, laid back, nothing to do kind of place. It's has long stretches of nothing but sandy beaches. Our golden retriever just loves digging in the sand. It's like being in another world, away from the everyday noise and commotion. The ferry ride to Ocracoke is great too! Now there's a place set back in time, it's like they're not even part of this world over there. Pros: dog beaches, quiet, uncrowded beaches Cons: mosquitoes more
